This is a great reference guide to daily life during the time of the Old Testament. It is great to see how the different classes lived their daily lives. So often we think of the people as being totally different then we are today but with this guide we can see the similarities.
It is also a great tool when teaching children about the lives of the heros and heroines of the Bible.

Dr. Tim Dowley's short book, is long on information and sketches of every day life in biblical times. While probably written for students (he is the author of two books targeted to students), it nevertheless is an excellent source of information on the everyday life of the times. Each page consists of crisp text, illustrated with multicolor sketches of the particular topic. Sixteen major topics are covered in the thirty two pages: some of the topics are The House, Home Life, Growing Grain, Eating and Drinking, Fishing, Travel, Religion and Festivals. The reader can see the type of house Mary and Joseph probably live in in Nazareth, the kinds of tools Joseph probably used in his carpenter's shop, the clothing of the period.
