I have never used a bean slicer or french-er before, bought this as a backup to a crank french-er. When i bought it I thought from the picture that the end of the tool was to take off the bean tips. It works, but a it would work better if the end blade open and closed . Less risk of taking part of thumb tip. the french-er part of the tool is OK for a hand tool but not much better than a kitchen knife. Would help if manufacture would include some kind of instruction or even a picture of how to use.

My husband and I brought about 5 pounds of Green Beans so I could try out my new Green Bean Slicer and it's was fast, fun. I was able to fly through them in no time at all, I used to do them with my knife by hand, it was so time consuming and took for ever. My new Green Bean Slicer was so quick that I wish I had more to do! Thanks - Chris

This little gadget is truly a "Must Have" in your kitchen. When the Summer Harvest of French beans are ready, this little gadgets makes quick work of peeling strings & slicing all in one operation.. I have t least 4 of these "I would never want to be with out one on hand. Plus when ever friends have seen me use one, Another one disappears from the kitchen as they leave. I have given many as gifts. And at the price it is an affordable gift. Worth the money & delivery was quick , Wonderful item.

If you like french cut green beans, look no further. I had read in someones blog where they had used this tool, and to be honest I was a little skeptical. For the price I couldn't resist to give it a try and have no regrets. Very easy to use and clean. It has stayed sharp and for the most part, except for very few (mostly short) green beans, this has to be one of the greatest little gadgets made.

We've had one of these for 20 years. Bought it at a well known upscale kitchen supplies store. They no longer carry them; I was glad to find them here.

They are much faster than frenching beans with a knife, but it still takes time. I line up all the beans on a cutting board, and whack off the ends of the beans all at once with a knife, then thread them through this one at a time. Works best with fresh, crisp beans. Old starchy ones can (sometimes) jam up, and flaccid ones are difficult to push through as well.

But it is a slick gadget - I'd suggest that you buy several and give them away to friends as simple presents.

I love sring beans, I could not cut them like my grandmother could. Now I can, very easy to use takes time but not that much if you enjoy what you do. they probley have faster ways to do this but not better or cheaper. We have sring beans once a month now I really enjoy this tool it all you need for cleaning and sring most any thickness of beans that Ive found it opens wider for bigger beans havent found a bean that wount fit in it. not saying that there are none ou there just I havent found them. great product for a great price. this is the 2nd one Ive bought gave the first o my favorite Aunt

I got this for canning which was a poor choice since I had a LOT to do. That said, it worked like a champ. For canning, I should have gotten something that would accomodate several beans at once. But, if you want something for preparing a meal, you can't go wrong with this little guy. It will not cut a bean with larger seeds inside the pod so it only works with the optimal product. The price is right and I'm glad I have a couple in my kitchen drawer.

Bought this one for our daughter. I've always hated the fat "cafeteria beans" from grade school, and came across one of these a LONG time ago. When our daughter moved out, I looked at the handle, googled it, and found it here. I can slice a pound of beans in 10 minutes, they cook faster and taste better. Try Julia Childs recipe for harcot vert without the expense of the tiny ones that cost at least twice as much.
