5.0 out of 5 stars Remember when pop was fun?, March 7, 2003
This review is from: & (Audio CD)
Kristian Hoffman sounds like he's been hanging around with Paul McCartney, Harry Nilsson, Burt Bacharach, Elvis Costello, and Glenn Tilbrook.

Each song is a duet, of sorts, with artists ranging from Russell Mael (Sparks) to Rufus Wainwright to Van Dyke Parks.

The songs are incredibly catchy, fun, pretty, and polished.

One of the best CDs of 2002!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing and Delightful, August 4, 2002

This review is from: & (Audio CD)
Prior to listening to this disc, I had never heard of Kristian Hoffman (who is apparently an underground legend in subterranean circles that I don't frequent). I picked it up because of the stellar line-up of folks he performs duets with (e.g., Rufus Wainwright, Stew, Van Dyke Parks, and many more). What an amazing set of gorgeous songs! They are not easily categorizable and have diverse styles and moods, but they are just damn good. At the moment I am particularly fond of the saddest ones (Scarecrow, a duet with Rufus concerning Matthew Sheppard, and Lullaby, an elegy for Lance Loud), but there is madcap mahem too. What a great discovery.
