Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Although he is not prolific, Harness has earned a reputation in SF as a writer's writer for such intricate melodramas as The Paradox Men and The Rose. His new adventure takes place in a post-holocaust future sophisticated enough to relieve its population pressures with time travel but still full of atavistic cults. While the political scene rumbles with the contested selection of a new overlord, the loss of 5000 people in a timequake puts that time-site's original surveyor, Kron-Corps agent James Konteau, on the spot. It is typical of Harness's approach and sense of drama that Konteau's private memories and personal history get mixed up with his professional work in time and the ethical choices he must make against political leverage.

From Library Journal

The colonization of Earth's prehistoric past offers an ideal solution to humanity's population problem until a timequake sends a veteran time surveyor on a quest that violates the laws of time and Earth's Overlord. Theories of time and space interweave flawlessly with the personal story of a man's love for his estranged family in this intricate and elegant novel. Highly recommended. JC
