Nice carafe ,good idea but the brewing process does not work . The coffee does not drip all the way thru into the carafe. It is hard to pour the water into the top as the opening is too narrow and the water runs all over the place. I have had a Krups coffeemaker for years and it worked fine ,but this one is a bad design, and doesn't even work.

... When I got it home and tried it w/water I noticed that the water kept running out when the pot was removed, not just dripping. To make a long story shorter...the hole at the end of the basket was plugged w/plastic that was not cleaned out in the molding process. As a result the water/coffee simply filled the basket and ran out the overflow hole. One would have assumed that it was the thermostatically controlled "flavor Valve" that was doing this as the directions say it won't drip for about two minutes. That is why many people find a basket full of coffee when brewing is done...it is not high enough to go out the overflow and cannot flow out the bottom as the hole is plugged. Once I removed the plastic plug the unit worked fine. Seems to keep the coffee plenty hot for me - but that is personal taste. If you want it scalding hot make it on the stove, a thermal carafe won't do it and a hot plated glass carafe loses its ability to heat extra hot quickly. Would have rated thiis 5 stars but the quality control at Krups is obviously ()...or they know of the problem and won't modify the manufacturing process to fix it!!!

Cool design, lukewarm coffee.,

This coffee maker seemed like a great idea - the coffee brews straight into the thermos, so you don't have to decant it into a thermos or keep it on the hot plate the entire day. However, because the water is only heated for a few seconds, you end up with coffee which is simply not hot enough. I like my coffee to be just too hot to drink when I pour it. I drink it black, but if you like to add milk, you definitely need it hotter as the milk will cool it down even more. The design of this machine is simply beautiful, but I ended up returning it to the store because of the temperature of the coffee. I exchanged it for the Krups Crystal Arome Plus Time, which has very similar features and design, but brews the coffee on a hot plate. I recommend this second machine - it's 20 bucks cheaper and 20 times better.

I just purchased this coffee maker two nights ago and it lives up to all of its expectations. I am really not sure where these negative reviews are coming from.I have been a coffe drinker for years and have worked in a coffee shop for sometime. Knowing what I do know about coffee, I wonder if the negative reviews are based on people who do not know how to make good coffee. Please read below and you will get an enjoyable cup everytime! 1. Always use filtered water (ie. from a Brita) never Tap. In terms of the temperature of the coffee, if you pull the carafe from the machine after brewing, my coffee stays piping hot for an hour. In conclusion, this machine is excellent if you make coffee in the right manner with good beans. Using bad beans, un-filtered water, and already gound beans that have been sitting out for a week will only give you a bad cup of coffee. Hope this helps everyone enjoy this machine and coffee more....

I spent about 6 months reading reviews of coffee makers(paralyzed with too much information) before I decided on this model, and I am very happy with my choice. I bought the glass carafe because other reviewers and one or two engineers said that glass is a superior insulator to steel. I find that this carafe keeps it nice and hot for at least three hours, and if you're really desperate and don't mind a bit cooler, you can drink it until 4 hours. I pre-heat my cream at that point so as to not cool it further. I also prefer the flavor of coffee kept in glass. It makes quite a few loud steam noises as it finishes brewing, very alarming for any children in the house but otherwise not relevant. Others have complained that it doesn't brew hot enough. By their descriptions I would say that they received defective models. I burned my tongue on the first cup this morning. This one is just fine, and my previous Krups was fantastic too. If you get one that doesn't brew hot enough for your taste, return it. This is a great buy if you want a coffee maker that keeps your coffee drinkable without burning for longer than 2 hours. I only wish Krups would try their hands at a grind-n-brew model next!

Great, hot coffee - works perfectly,

This makes an excellent cup of really smooth coffee. Not sure how hot other reviewers expect their coffee, but my husband and I think it is too hot to drink immediately after brewing. Also, it stays hot for at least an hour or two. Why would anyone need it to stay hot for three or four hours? I think people's expectations are a little too high. If it takes you that long to drink a pot of coffee, perhaps you should have only made a half pot.We used a very simple Braun model with a carafe for the last ten years, and it finally stopped working. We definately wanted to get another coffee maker with the carafe/thermos. Coffee that has been warmed on a burner is just unacceptably horrible. This Krups is way ahead of the Braun in ease of use and the temperature of the coffee is much, much warmer.

This coffee maker produces the best coffee I have ever tasted. The real question is whether you want to deal with some of its characteristics.1. Forget the timer, even if it works well. It takes only 5 minutes to do a 10-cup pot, so set it up the night before but start it when you get up. If you can't wait 5 minutes, you will never be satisfied. 2. Forget the price. You pay at least $1.50 at a restaurant and $3.00 at Starbucks for coffee. If good coffee is important to you, $50 more split over a thousand cups a year is nothing. 3. Good tasting hot coffee all day long won't be achieved by this coffeemaker, and is probably an unreasonable expectation for any coffeemaker. Unless you will drink swill resulting from being heated for hours. Make another pot or use the microwave. 4. Glass thermos bottles are notorious for their fragility. Stress caused by rapidly changing the temperature of the bottle will cause them to crack. They also give way when bumped or dropped. Choose another solution if you don't like this characteristic. 5. It is necessary to wash out the filter holder after each use. Batchelors and undergraduates take careful note. 6. Leaks and broken pieces are quality problems; it's hard to judge how widespread they are from the examples here. Be sure have a place where you can return it easily and cheaply and keep the packaging and documentation. This might make a better local purchase than a web purchase.

I've had the same issues with this coffee maker as many of the other reviewers. This is just a shoddy design. I can deal with the less than hot coffee because I expect that with a thermal carafe, but I didn't expect weak coffee due to the poor flow of water over the grounds (you can see it after brewing: the water passes straight through the center, leaving surrounding grounds untouched). I also didn't expect to have to use duct tape to keep the filter basket closed due to the flimsy metal piece that bent beyond use in 1 month. Disappointing product, and my last Krups.

Previously, I owned a Krups Thermal coffee maker (w/o programming features). The maker worked great. It lasted for 5+ years until, finally, the glass inside the carafe shattered. My new Krups 199-73 adds to my old machine with programming features and "aroma control". It is wonderful to wake up to the smell of fresh brewed coffee. The coffee stays hot for hours inside the carafe. Plus, the maker has auto shut-off features so there is no worries of fire, etc.

Great Coffeee Brewer; Easy to Use.,

This review is from: Krups 199-7D Aroma Control 10-Cup Programmable Thermal Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
We've had many coffee pots over the last 40 years, and this one is the best. Follow the instructions and this pot will deliver a delicious brew that will stay hot for a couple of hours. A couple suggetions are appropriate. Be careful not to place the carafe on a "heat sink", such as a granite countertop, that will help drop the temperature of the carafe and the coffee. Also turn the screw in carafe top counterclockwise until it seats before locking it down. This avoids a potential skew and fit problem. If you take your time and are methodical in following the directions, this Krups will deliver on it's promise.
