This review is from: Krups 269-42 10-Cup Thermal Coffee Carafe for Model 199-46, Black (Kitchen)
Carafe and coffee maker working great for us.If you want a brewing lid, make sure that you order the model with the brewing lid. Otherwise it comes with a lid that us useful for serving, but not for brewing. Our dad says that this is "the most beautiful coffee maker that he has ever seen" - a remarkable statement from a guy who is mostly in to Carhartt clothing and practical gardening tools. The original carafe when "poof" after about three years of use. The internal vacuum bottle failed, dribbling coffee down the countertop. We were happy to find a replacement carafe because we like the coffeemaker alot. Other reviewers have complained that the vacuum insert is made of glass. Why don' t they make it out of stainless steel? Why? Well, in typical German fashion they chose the material that performs the best: a glass "dewar" flask with a very high vacuum. They even put a mirrored surface on the glass to reflect radiant heat. Nothing performs better. To keep my coffee warm, it is the material that I want. Why did it break? Well, it was three years old. We're not aware that we did anything to break it, but maybe someone put cold water in to a hot carafe, or created some other thermal shock that caused a fracture. Glass does need proper care and feeding. If you want a flask that's made for any old ape to use then get the cheap coffee maker with the burner that keeps your coffee cooking all day. If you want your coffee kept warm in a stylish carafe, well, here it is. Far dad's birthday, we're getting him a second carafe so he'll have a white one for decafe and a black one for the real stuff. Yea. PS: Don't expect any carafe to keep a couple of ounces warm all day long, but if you've got a half a pot in there, it will stay warm for a long time.

Another Explosion!,
By For years, my husband and I have used a Melitta #6 manual drip coffee maker. Great tasting coffee, and no hulking electric gadget to crowd the counter. But we got tired of breaking the glass carafe every year or so. Eventually, I took my cone to a local store and found a carafe it fit -- this one. I guess we got lucky ... it lasted for several years with no problems. [Maybe because I never put it in the dishwasher.] But yesterday morning, I poured the water through, and a few minutes later -- POP! I'm buying a stainless carafe to replace it. Krups seems to be the only coffee carafe out there that will fit the #6 cone. And I'd mark this lower, but we got a good few years of service from it.

Return of the exploding pot,
This review is from: Krups 269-42 10-Cup Thermal Coffee Carafe for Model 199-46, Black (Kitchen)
Glad I looked at these reviews. I too bought a Krups pot and shortly after the inside of the pot exploded. It happened some time ago and thinking it was a fluke and I, at long last, was about to buy a replacement -- think I'll pass on it after reading these reviews!!!!Do not buy this pot! The glass went everywhere when it exploded and it was just sitting, empty and clean, on the counter with no one near it! It was dangerous!
