This review is from: Krups 269-42 10-Cup Thermal Coffee Carafe for Model 199-46, Black (Kitchen)
Carafe and coffee maker working great for us.If you want a brewing lid, make sure that you order the model with the brewing lid. Otherwise it comes with a lid that us useful for serving, but not for brewing. Our dad says that this is "the most beautiful coffee maker that he has ever seen" - a remarkable statement from a guy who is mostly in to Carhartt clothing and practical gardening tools. The original carafe when "poof" after about three years of use. The internal vacuum bottle failed, dribbling coffee down the countertop. We were happy to find a replacement carafe because we like the coffeemaker alot. Other reviewers have complained that the vacuum insert is made of glass. Why don' t they make it out of stainless steel? Why? Well, in typical German fashion they chose the material that performs the best: a glass "dewar" flask with a very high vacuum. They even put a mirrored surface on the glass to reflect radiant heat. Nothing performs better. To keep my coffee warm, it is the material that I want. Why did it break? Well, it was three years old. We're not aware that we did anything to break it, but maybe someone put cold water in to a hot carafe, or created some other thermal shock that caused a fracture. Glass does need proper care and feeding. If you want a flask that's made for any old ape to use then get the cheap coffee maker with the burner that keeps your coffee cooking all day. If you want your coffee kept warm in a stylish carafe, well, here it is. Far dad's birthday, we're getting him a second carafe so he'll have a white one for decafe and a black one for the real stuff. Yea. PS: Don't expect any carafe to keep a couple of ounces warm all day long, but if you've got a half a pot in there, it will stay warm for a long time.

Another Explosion!,
By For years, my husband and I have used a Melitta #6 manual drip coffee maker. Great tasting coffee, and no hulking electric gadget to crowd the counter. But we got tired of breaking the glass carafe every year or so. Eventually, I took my cone to a local store and found a carafe it fit -- this one. I guess we got lucky ... it lasted for several years with no problems. [Maybe because I never put it in the dishwasher.] But yesterday morning, I poured the water through, and a few minutes later -- POP! I'm buying a stainless carafe to replace it. Krups seems to be the only coffee carafe out there that will fit the #6 cone. And I'd mark this lower, but we got a good few years of service from it.

Return of the exploding pot,
This review is from: Krups 269-42 10-Cup Thermal Coffee Carafe for Model 199-46, Black (Kitchen)
Glad I looked at these reviews. I too bought a Krups pot and shortly after the inside of the pot exploded. It happened some time ago and thinking it was a fluke and I, at long last, was about to buy a replacement -- think I'll pass on it after reading these reviews!!!!Do not buy this pot! The glass went everywhere when it exploded and it was just sitting, empty and clean, on the counter with no one near it! It was dangerous!

Krups Exploding Carafe,
This review is from: Krups 269-42 10-Cup Thermal Coffee Carafe for Model 199-46, Black (Kitchen)
I, too, have a duothek coffee maker. I was looking for a replacement carafe to substitute for the one I thought broke naturally. The least expensive carafe replacement I could find on the Internet was $29 with a $10 postage fee. Now that I've read about the many carafes exploding, I will go with another model rather than replacing the duothek carafe. No one was hurt when ours exploded, but I don't want to take the chance that the next one will take out a family member! I liked the convenience of having two separate pots but am glad I read these reviews before sinking more money into a flawed product.

Buying a 2nd one!,

We've used this exact model Krups Thermal Carafe for 8 years and have been 100+ percent pleased. One day it sat too close to the stove and the plastic base was reshaped :-( but still useable. In spite of the mal-formed base, it till performed perfectly for years afterwards. Today I'm going to replace it with the exact same one, knowing it's the best I can buy for my Melita #6 cone.

I've had my Krups coffee maker for two years and have gone through 3 different plastic exploding carafes. A family member has the same coffee maker with the stainless carafe and has not had to replace the carafe once. This is clearly a known design flaw by Krups. I'm supprised Krups continues to make disfunctional replacement carafes. Bottom Line- Great Coffee Maker- BUT MAKE SURE TO BUY THE STAINLESS STEAL CARAFE.

Don't Buy! Carafe Explodes When Used.,
By I was extraordinarily careful with the new carafe... I never bumped it, I always washed it carefully, and I always pre-heated it by filling it with successively warmer amounts of water. Nevertheless, 53 weeks after its purchase, the 2nd carafe exploded when sitting on my living room coffee table (again untouched by anyone for about 15 minutes). This time, I got coffee with slivers of glass in my carpet. Since it was now more than a year old, and no longer under warranty, I got no satisfaction from Krups. When called, the Krups representative was apologetic and offered to send me a coupon toward the purchase of a new carafe. When I got the coupon, It required that I spend more than $100 to get $10 off. Useless... and never again. FOOL ME ONCE, SHAME ON YOU-- FOOL ME TWICE, SHAME ON BOTH OF US. I certainly won't go for a third time. They have treated me so poorly I will never buy another Krups product again.

When no one else can, Amazon can!!,
After checking with different companies, as this Krups carafe is for an older coffeemaker, it was suggested that I keep looking. With the number of the coffeepot, Amazon picked it up, directed me to the exact one in the right color (black) and size, and the rest was simply a tribute to their excellent service and fast delivery.

Carafe Explosion Mess,
Yes, my carafe exploded this morning--I had set the pot for automatic start this morning and when I entered the kitchen I found coffee everywhere, even in the cabinets below. Needless to say, I was pretty annoyed. I sent a note to Krups, but from the posts I have read above, I don't expect to get any real help nor a replacement...I won't buy Krups again.

I've had my Krups AromaControl maker for years and have enjoyed a hot cup of coffee every day. I broke one carafe, due to operator error not because of any defect. I like it because it keeps the coffee hot for a long period of time. I bought an extra carafe to make coffee for large dinner parties or for making one pot regular and one decafe. I'd like to see what a later version would be like and try one when this one wears out.
