I have probably looked at every toaster manufactured on planet earth, trying to find one that is a "bagel friendly", yet looks sleek and low-profile in a kitchen that includes dark granite counter tops, mahogany wood cabinets and black/brushed chrome appliances. The Krups 4-slice toaster in black, is a perfect match. It tucks in nicely against the granite splash, and practically disappears. The narrow width has a much smaller footprint and profile than those clunky retro-looking "square" 4-slice toasters. Toasting two bagles at one time is a dream. So I took the toaster out of the box and set it up on the counter. Husband walks in and makes two comments, "Where's the toaster? and "Ahhh cool toaster". ;)

What I like about this toaster is that it has two long wide slots as opposed to one so you can put in two slices of home made bread at one time or 4 slices or regular bread or two bagels! We are a family of 4 so this is convenient! No more waiting around the toaster for breakfast!

The thing that is different about this toaster (as the name implies) is that it toasts everything uniquely. Meaning it will need to be set at different settings for white bread, wheat bread, bagels and frozen products. It will also toast 1-2 slices differently than 3 or 4. This isn't a bad thing, but you need to be aware of it because it can be frustrating in the beginning. You burn or undercook a lot of food before you figure this out otherwise! I believe the booklet that comes with it explains this so I would recommend reading the booklet first. Also, do what they say about running it on the highest setting without food in it for a couple of cycles to burn off residue from the factory. It gave off an order in the beginning.

Overall, once you get use to the fact that this isn't your run of the mill toaster, I think you will be very pleased with it.

This is the last purchase I make having forgotten to check Consumer Reports before buying. This toaster only toasts ONE side of the bread! If you turn up the time, it BURNS one side of the bread and lightly toasts the other side. Consumer Reports top rated the KitchenAid KTT570WH 4-Slice Digital Toaster with Bagel, Warm, and Frozen Functions, White, and gave it a best buy rating. Hope this helps!

Model 287 is either a Lemon or very unreliable.
Will not toast equally on both sides.
Failed 2 times in a 10 month period.
Local authorized repair center took 5 wks. to repair.
Krups did not have replacement part for repair center.
Krups did not offer to replace unit when I escalated.
Second failure requesting 'other model' 155 or 156 replacement.
Very dis-satisfied with Krups Products & Service.

after only 11 months, my sleek, not to mention, efficient toaster is dead!? perhaps it was my three son's love of the eggos, or perhaps my own discovery of their heavier belgian cousin that brought about the untimely passing of our beloved "krupsie". perhaps had it been of true german (not spanish), roots, we might sill be getting "hot mit der brot"!
hey, it happens! time to move on. the only really good toaster we ever owned we got as a wedding gift, some 31 years ago.
got two as a matter of fact. exchanged one. toastmater. great toaster. lasted about ten years. tried another one. piece of ....! tried a couple of those top rated consumer reports models. they died, or would'nt perform, so they got returned.
toasters are a lot like cars. cars and books. some drive well / read well, but don't last long.
you could say, the krups is a bit like a jaguar. when it's running, it's top notch. when it's not; well, maybe it's time to go shopping. maybe the two slice model...
if only honda made toasters!

I bought a Krups because I was looking for a quality toaster that would last a while. It made good toast, however if one toasted more than one set of bread, the consecutive slices would get darker and darker on the same setting. I had it for eight month and then it stopped working! Not a happy camper.

This toaster worked okay - for less than a year-and-a-half. It just quit working without any kind of warning - no deterioration in its performance - it just stopped working. I know toasters are not known for their longevity, but I thought that spending a little more would guarantee at least a few years' of adequate performance. Unfortunately, this was not the case with this product. I am definitely disappointed in this toaster and will not purchase this model (or this brand) again.

The Krups Sensotoast Deluxe Toaster, Model #287, worked fine for me for about a year and a half. Then, it started requiring longer toasting times in order to achieve the desired results. After less than two years of use, it stopped working altogether. When I asked my husband to look inside to see if there was a loose wire or something, we discovered that the screws holding the bottom plate on are not something the average screwdriver can remove. We took it to a friend's automotive shop to see if he had the proper screwdriver, but even he couldn't remove the screws! Obviously, the consumer is not meant to gain access to the inside of the toaster. There is only a one year warranty period for this toaster, so basically it's time for a new one - after less than two years. I would not recommend this toaster to anyone.

I purchased this as a gift and they love it. It is on the large side but they needed a toaster that would accomodate thick slices and allow toasting 4 slices at once. One other factor in my purchase was the color. It seems to be more difficult to find black toasters for some reason. Probably not a good choice if storage is a problem but it works great so far (one year old now and still working) and toasts very evenly.

This is a very nice looking toaster. It is quite a large toaster and looks good sitting out on the counter.
It toasts perfect each time. I have toasted bagels, frozen waffles, bread and just about anything else that needs to be toasted. I have not had any trouble with it not toasting long enough or too much. I love the way that it sounds when it pops up. It has the sound of a quality toaster. I have used Krups products for years and have had many years of use from them.
