Product Description

Amazon.com Review

This powerful 150-watt appliance is an all-purpose grinder, capable of not only grinding meat at a rate of 2.2 pounds per minute, but also of crushing ice. An accompanying salad-making kit consists of three rotating drums that slice, shred, and julienne vegetables and grind hard cheeses. Though the exterior and some of the tools are made of plastic, the grinding drive, disks, and drums are made of metal for durability. For handling meat, the grinder comes with fine- and coarse-grinding disks, a cone for extruding ground meat into sausage casings, and a mold for pressing freshly ground hamburger into 3-1/2-inch patties. The ice-crushing drum is excellent for shaving ice for party platters and drinks, and the pastry shaper fits onto the feed chute, letting you extrude lots of dough in star, square, round, diamond, and flat shapes. The grinder measures 10-1/2 inches long and 5 inches wide. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little household grinder, May 30, 2002
This review is from: Krups 402-70 The Butcher Shop Meat Grinder (Kitchen)
A wonderful grinder for those of you on a tight budget. For those of you making dog food, this grinder easily handles a whole chicken cut up, however, I don't suggest grinding wings with the Krups Butcher Shop Meat Grinder....it will immediately jam up and take forever to unclog. Why do I like it? It breathes through chicken with no problem, does veggies/fruits/boneless meat with nar a sniffle...even handles leafy greens without getting all gummed up. To be a small household grinder, it doesn't take up much room, excellent and light for elderly or otherwise physically handicapped person. Also, its excellent space saver for apt people who want to be able to make their own ground meats, etc. ... takes up little room in or out of the cabinet. I recommend it to everyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Save your money for a better grinder, December 29, 2003
This review is from: Krups 402-70 The Butcher Shop Meat Grinder (Kitchen)
I've been using the Krups 402-70 grinder for the last 9 months now and it works fine..if you grind good cuts of meat with no fibers. Otherwise with cheaper cuts, the blade gets clogged with the meat fibers pretty much 10 seconds into grinding and untangling them is a pain in the butt. Also, the blade dulled very quickly and is difficult to re-sharpen. One of the most disappointing parts of the grinder is of the two plates with different size holes for the meat to be pushed out. They are not stainless steel, rust easily and produces a funky smell. After I wash these plates I need to dry them right away before they start to rust. If you truly need a meat grinder, look into getting something else. I think once we burn out this one, i'll get something with a little more power than the 150W Krups has to offer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Underpowered and noisy meat grinder, December 21, 2003

Leann (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Krups 402-70 The Butcher Shop Meat Grinder (Kitchen)
My husband purchased this for me after hearing me complain about the poor quality - i.e. full of gristle, off odors, and flavorless grocery store ground beef.

It is a struggle to grind any meat with this underpowered, only 150 watts, machine. Every 7-10 minutes I have to stop the machine and remove the screw assembly in order to remove the meat fibers that plug up the perforated force plate. If you have tons of time on your hands this may be the machine for you. Meat is squished through the force plate, not ground, so that you end up with a kind of meat paste. Also, I have to spend a lot of time trimming and cutting up meat into very small pieces so that there is less clogging. Did I mention that it is very noisy? Did I mention that it also grinds the side of the plastic chute that is used for grinding cheese?

I will never purchase a Krups meat grinder again. We're taking our time and evauluating a Northern Tools meat grinder with a .8 hp. Motor to replace the Krups.
