Krups is the only kind to buy...,
By "viebrock4" (Burien, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Krups 467-71 Crystal Arome Time 10-Cup Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
My wife and I have used this model of coffee maker to make great coffee for the last six years. Although we paid a $$$$ for it at the time and I just about flipped because of the cost. Now I'm happily buying the same great coffee maker at great discount for Amazon.com. The controls aren't that hard to learn to use and can be easily mastered in about 15 minutes. Should the carafe ever break replacements can be purchased. Overall, I think this coffee maker represents an excellent value and produces far better coffee than other brands. For example, using the same kind of coffee beans and the same filtered water, I was able to make really good coffee in the Krups, while a comparable Black and Decker coffee maker produced horrible coffee. I don't think it's just a matter of cone filter vs. basket filter. I think it's a design thing and Krups has got it right.

Nice Coffeemaker with Compact Design,
By A Customer
This review is from: Krups 467-71 Crystal Arome Time 10-Cup Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
I never owned a Krups before and decided to take a chance on it. I like it. The design is compact and not bulky like many models on the market. This is a nice feature is you have a small countertop. My absolute favorite feature is the fact that there is no dripping or spilling when you pour a cup of coffee or fill the water reservoir - no matter how quickly or slowly you pour. The filter is a nice feature too, but I really couldn't tell that it affected the flavor at all. I think the brand of coffee used is still the most important factor in taste. I gave it 4 stars because I can't vouch for durability yet, and I didn't think it kept coffee hot as long as other models I've owned. This is no big deal to us. We usually consume it too quickly, and when we have any left over we pour it into a carafe. Otherwise, I think it is a nice pot.

Okay, but not worth the money,
By A Customer
This review is from: Krups 467-42 10-Cup Crystal Arome Time Coffee Maker, Black (Kitchen)
I bought this product because Krups seemed like a quality name and the design was very eye-catching. I'm not impressed though. The actual coffee pot design could have been constructed better because it seems to spill if the coffee is not poured slowly. The filter light flashes after a while to change the filter. I use bottled water and when you pull the filter out it is still so clean. I'm not sure if the filter (useage) is just timed and it just starts flashing automatically. I feel you can find a better coffeemaker / brand for that amount of money. Look around and read the reviews so you can get an idea of other's experiences... Good Luck!

makes good coffee, but has big design flaws,

This review is from: Krups 467-71 Crystal Arome Time 10-Cup Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
This coffee maker makes good coffee, but there are bugs in the design that will really bug you. First, if you use the automatic timer and the auto shut-off, it is easy to forget that the timer is still set and the coffee pot will start "doing its thing" whether or not you have put water and coffee in it for the next morning. Second, a light flashes to indicate when the filter should be changed. The only way I have found to stop the flashing light, which does not stop upon replacement of the filter, is to unplug the pot which, of course, means resetting the clock and the timer each time. Additionally, the filters must be mail-ordered. Stores that sell the coffee-maker, such as Bloomingdale's, Sur La Table, Bed, Bath and Beyond, etc. don't bother to carry the filters. Third, it is essential that you replace the carafe in exactly the right way otherwise the gizmo that allows you to pour a cup before the brew cycle is finished will remain closed. What that means is that the coffee can't drip down into the carafe so the filter area will fill with water and then overflow with coffeegrounds onto your counter. What a mess! I've never owned a coffee-maker with so many design flaws. I bought this one because I've had good luck with other Krups models, but they blew it on this one.

The perfect coffeemaker?,

This review is from: Krups 467-42 10-Cup Crystal Arome Time Coffee Maker, Black (Kitchen)
I'll be frank -- I'm a medical student and I don't demand a lot from my coffee. I want it hot. I want it strong. I want it fast. I want a lot. The Krups delivers on all counts, plus it's got the extras that fill out my weekends. There are a lot of misconceptions on this carafe. It's a jewel. It doesn't break -- *you* break *it*. I've had my Krups a year, and this carafe keeps heat in better than any other non-thermosed one I've seen. I luv it. It's been on my countertop. It's been in my sink. I haven't broken it. I luv it. The design on this Krups is just darn great. I really, *rilly* hate those other coffeemakers with their swing-out filter trays and dumpy flat-bottom filters. Bah. Krups got it right with the top-hinge design & hit a grand-slam by going with the cone filter, which gets the java stronger & tastier. And, oh, man, is this easy to clean. No stupid hinges on the carafe lid. Just pops off and back on. No goofiness with the filter retainer. Out, in the sink, back in the Krups. Other features on this Krups are great also, like the water filter (which, btw, I have never had a problem buying replacement filters for) and the timer and what else? Am I forgeting something? Oh yeah, the auto-off feature. Duh. The best coffeemaker I've ever owned.

Makes a good pot of coffee and has some nice features,

When our old Krups coffee maker finally bit the dust we knew we wanted the same brand again. The automatic shut off is a great feature, especially since I almost always forget to turn the coffee maker off!! The coffee smells wonderful while it's brewing and the taste was very smooth. I don't know how much the chlorine filter helps but regardless, it makes a great pot of coffee. The coffee maker looks nice and modern and is more compact then others. My only complaint is that the plastic is much more flimsy then my old Krups maker and doesn't feel as solid. We'll see how long this one will hold up.

One Good Coffee Maker,
This review is from: Krups 467-71 Crystal Arome Time 10-Cup Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
This review is for you if like me you don't like to have to give up on a good old coffee maker, tried and true, but which now is obsolete and has finally bit the dust. After a couple years, I became curious to see what the new kinds of Krups coffee makers look like. I couldn't tell one from another at first, but after several days it became clear that the Crystal Arome Plus Time was the one for me. First, for the timer. Second for the microwavable carafe, which also happens to be spherical in shape and nestles beautifully in the space provided for it on the warming plate. I was surprised when I saw the actual coffee maker. I had high expectations. It exceeded them. Its appearance in real life is very impressive. The best thing about the spherical carafe is how surprisingly easy it is to pour from, into a coffee maker that is easy to pour into, to fill it with water. The lid of the coffee maker is hinged at the back and swings up to provide access not only to the water tank but also to the removable filter holder. I bought this coffeemaker in white, partly because it was $10 cheaper than black, even though I expected white to stain. What a pleasant surprise it was to see that the filter holder inside is black! Features a rotary switch with clearly marked positions for setting the clock or timer, or choosing ON, OFF or AUTO. The LCD readout is nice to look at and easy to read. I bought a goldtone filter because the previous Krups I used for a long time had a permanent filter. The new metallic filter seems to be an improvement since the filter mesh is extremely fine. I love this coffee maker.

Good machine, lasts a long time,
By Greg in SoCal (Thousand Oaks, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Krups 467-71 Crystal Arome Time 10-Cup Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
Like most people, I've owned several coffee makers over the years, and currently have a cappuccino maker, pod coffee maker, 1-cup-at-a-time maker, but the Krups Crystal Arome Plus Time is my favorite maker if I want a good cup of coffee.
I've owned this machine since... gosh, I don't remember it's been so long, but it seems like 6-7 years, and it hasn't failed me yet. As I read some of the other reviews here, the first thing that came to mind was, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! They gave the impression that it was the machine's fault the some of the features wouldn't work. Two issues stand out. One was a complaint the flashing filter warning light wouldn't turn off. Well, push the filter reset button. Simple. Another was that the coffee maker, warming plate turned off after only 1 hour. Well, this is the factory default so some of us don't set the thing on fire after leaving an empty pot on it before going to work (yes I've done that), thank you Krups. But if you read the instructions, you can set this feature from 1-5 hours. So there! Anyway, there are two major factors to making a good cup of coffee, the quality of the coffee, and the maker. This maker does a fine job, for this price range. The coffee is brewed to a temperature of 170°, which is decent (the ideal temperature is around 180°). It took about 1 minute per cup of coffee brewed, which has slowed down from when it was new. It's probably time for a decalcifying cleaning. It has the auto brew feature so you can set it to make coffee before you get up, and as noted above, you can also change the auto shut off time. I feel better knowing it has a filter, which not only helps filter the water you put into it, but also help to reduce calcium build-up. Besides, I always try to use bottled or filtered water for better taste. The only problem I had was using the carafe in a microwave oven. Although the instructions state that you can heat the carafe in a microwave oven, when I tried it, the handle felt like it was coming loose. I guess the microwave softened whatever glue they use to mount the handle. Because of this flaw, I would give this product a 4.5 instead of 5. I've never had an issue putting the carafe back into the maker completely so the coffee brews correctly into the carafe, or with coffee dripping when pouring it into my cup. Most coffee makers in this price range are about the same quality, and materials, but I bought this Krups because of the style, features, and trust in the Krups name. I would recommend buying this item.

EXCELLENT COFFEE - BUT,
By A Customer
This review is from: Krups 467-42 10-Cup Crystal Arome Time Coffee Maker, Black (Kitchen)
This machine #467 makes excellent coffee. I have purchased 2 of these machines - just because the coffee they make is so good. BUT, the quality of the machine is certainly lacking. The teflon disappears from the burner plate in a very short time. I thought I had scrubbed it away the first time - BUT the second machine had the same problem and I was very careful not to scrub it. The pause control - also quit working on both machines - the plastic and metal spring/latch do not last long. Once the pause control quits the machine starts leaking. The 'change filter' light comes on way too often - but can be re-set very easily. The filters are hard to get out - and sometimes get charcoal over all the counter. Both of these machines lasted about 1 year - but we do drink a lot of coffee - 3-4 Pots a day - so it might last longer with less use. BUT - I'm going to purchase a different brand this time.

Improved flavor...,

This review is from: Krups 467-42 10-Cup Crystal Arome Time Coffee Maker, Black (Kitchen)
My wife and I bought the Krups 467-42 10 Cup Coffee Maker in 2002. We were both immediately struck by the improved flavor of our coffee when compared with our old coffee maker. We attributed the improved flavor to the water filter. The timer's great as well, and is intuitive to set. We've had to replace the water filter once since then. It was a simple operation, but we found that actually finding a retailer who carried the filters was a bit difficult. Now that we know where to get them, I'm not anticipating any problems. The only other problem I can think of feels like nit-picking: the warming timer resets to 1 hour if the power fails. I always forget how to reset it to our desired 5 hours. As we generally like to keep a pot of hot coffee on all morning so this is occasionally a drag. |
