I received this coffeemaker as a gift, and we looked up it's Amazon reviews shortly after(!) We were taken aback at the contempt that this machine was held in by most of it's reviewers.

I waited 3 months to write this review, so as to break it in....

1/ It makes the best coffee I have had at home, period. I have better coffee at home now than almost anywhere outside, and have stopped buying coffee on the way to work, because that would mean paying for a cup of coffee that is inferior to the excellent brew at home.

2/ The timer works and it is nice having really freshly ground and brewed coffee in the morning.

3/ It is loud though. I live in a condo, and have wondered sometimes if the neighbours are bothered by it at 6am!

4/ Cleaning and drying take patience. The inner metal grille must be cleaned each time, and the whole appliance dried thoroughly before adding new beans. Disregard any instructions at your peril!

Would I buy this again? Probably..... The coffee from it is so good that I would go through the trouble of cleaning it. If you do not have the time or patience for a thorough cleaning job EVERY time you use this, don't bother.

I thought that I was upgrading to a better Krups model with this purchase. Not so. I like the option of having the built in grinder, but what a pain!

The coffee machine is huge and is awkward to use anywhere near a kitchen cabinet. Additionally, once the brew cycle is done, you can't clean it without having water pooling around on the counter because of all the little compartments that build up the steam.

For those who aren't real technical, stay away from this as well. There are two contact points on the coffee maker that must be in place or it will not run. Once is on the grinder lid (probably a good thing) and the other the hidden door which houses the filter.

This makes great coffee and does a super job grinding the beans. I just don't have ten minutes each morning to spend cleaning the machine and the area around it.

Bottom line, if you get this you'll be pleased with the coffee. Unfortunately, it's a real pain in the rear.

This machine is simply too high maintenance. The necessity of not only cleaning, but DRYING so many areas before (or after) is not worth the trade off of having freshly ground beans timed for brew each morning. Additionally, the brewing process is very inefficient, seemingly due to loss of steam in the process. It takes over 30 minutes for a full pot to brew. GRRRR. We've gone back to Melita. The boiling and pouring process suddenly seems like a breeze!

I ordered the Krups grinder/brewer based upon my past very positive experience w/ Krups quality. Then, after the machine was on the way, I read the customer reviews @Amazon.com. Needless to say, I was not reassured because most of them were negative. When the grinder/brewer came, I read the instruction manual and began to utilize the machine. I have been very satisfied with it. As long as I am scrupulous about following the instructions, it works just fine. My only difficulty has been when I neglected to maintain the machine according to instructions. A trick that I learned when preparing the machine the night before is to make sure the area where the beans go is dry. If I have doubts about the dryness I leave the top to the grinder up and when morning comes, I manually turn on the machine before I step into the shower. In the directions, it also states that one should not exceed the 7 scoops of beans. This guideline needs to be followed as well. When I monitor the amount of beans accurately, again, I have no trouble with the machine at all.

From the start this product was disappointing. It was difficult to clean the grinder after brewing. Then over the next few weeks, the coffee maker started steaming alot and thus brewed too little coffe and took an inordinately long time to do so. Then, it just broke. The grinder would no longer work. I took it to a Service Center for warranty work and was told that Krups does not fix these machines and will just send me a new one. Almost four weeks later I received a different coffee maker that did not grind and a seperate grinder. This is what I started with. Now I have two regular coffee makers and two grinders and cannot get anyone at Krups to talk to me, call me back or respond in any way. I will auction the new products on EBAY and will never buy another Krups product. It was not the lousy product as much as the complete lack of customer service that brought me to that decision.

I just recently purchased this item and it makes the best coffee I have had out of a home machine. The grinder is great but it does have to be wiped out after every grinding (excess moisture) and the drip isn't the fastest but it is well worth the wait. I have quite a few decaf friends and this is nice because it cleans out the grinder while it is brewing. Then with a light going over with a paper towel, it is ready to go again.

I bought this summer before last. At Christmas I put it away because I then had the Cuisinart coffemaker (also grind and brew). This Krups machine is a lemon. At first it works okay, then the coffeemaker just gets slower and s l o w e r. It is a pain to do just about anything with it except perhaps throw it away. I won't give it to anyone, why make enemies? Do not buy this machine....anything else is better. I, too, will NEVER buy another Krups product again.

Manual instructions must be followed exactly but in many cause is wrong or doesn't contain important infromation.
Loading the 10 cups of water as reccomended overflows out the back.
Steam cleaning causes so much condesation that unit always is soaked (as well as my counter top) - within a few days it had mold in places that were very hard to clean.
If the thing is not cleaned and dryed properly, it will overflow the top of the unit with a coffee/water slurry the consistency of melted ice cream. Makes the most awful mess I've ever seen!
It does make a great cup of coffee but other then that it's a peice of junk (no wonder it's price was reduced so much).

Krups usually makes a good machine.......not this time.
It does make decent coffee, but forget about grinding beans if you don't want to make a full-time time job out of it. It's far too much trouble, and MUST be totally dry to make another pot.

Added this machine as the decaf mate to my Capresso grinder/brewer. The usually reliable Krups name let me down. Really messy and pain to clean. So many parts to reassemble and the hook that holds the metal coffee strainer broken already!This would be bearable if the coffee were up to par, but unfortunately that was not the case. Slooooow to brew, warm to hottish temperature. I guess I'll have to swallow the extra money and buy another, infinitely superior, Capresso.
