Boiling Water is One of Life's Essential Activities,
By KSG "ksgnyc" (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Krups 848 -70Aqua Control Compact Cordless Electric 4.4-Cup Kettle, White (Kitchen)
I first purchased an electric kettle for my aged mother. One day she absent-mindedly left her tea kettle boiling away on the stove (it became part of the stove). Now if she forgets about the kettle, there isn't any danger of the house burning down as these kettles automatically turn off after the water boils. Which brings me to my gripe with this kettle. The base is so light weight and unstable that it can easily move around when one tries to replace the kettle. The last thing you want is an unstable surface and a kettle full of boiling water. The Braun model is much sturdier, with a firm base, but it is very large.

Water Gauge Warning,
By A Customer
This review is from: Krups 848 -70Aqua Control Compact Cordless Electric 4.4-Cup Kettle, White (Kitchen)
This is a lovely kettle for boiling water fast, but please by warned (as I should have been by a review I read here) that the water gauge comes loose for no apparent reason, causing the kettle to leak all over the kitchen counter and rendering it useless. And after only 4 months of use.

Horrible piece of Krups,
By A Customer
This review is from: Krups 848 -70Aqua Control Compact Cordless Electric 4.4-Cup Kettle, White (Kitchen)
Got this abomination for X-mas as a present. It worked for a couple weeks quite nicely, and then boiling water started leaking from the bottom. As one of the previous reviewers noted, the tubing in the measuring chamber comes off, particularly when the water is hot. Krups' advice? Push it back in. Right. And the puddle of boiling hot water hopefully won't hurt anyone in the house every time this kettle leaks. Waiting for the official recall to return this thing. Or maybe a class action suit. Do not buy, this appliance is dangerous!

Safety First,

Not only is this product safe because it will automatically shut off but it is also very efficient. Water heats faster than a microwave and lets you brew enough for four cups of tea. No cord so the pot moves freely. We purchased this item when we left a teakettle on and burned the paint off the year old stove top. No more teakettles. I am buying one for my Mother for her birthday. It is lightweight which is a big plus.

Top gets too hot! No insulating layer in the lid.,

This review is from: Krups 848 -70Aqua Control Compact Cordless Electric 4.4-Cup Kettle, White (Kitchen)
Our old cordless has to be propped up with a plastic fork and a cup set on the top to get it to work, so we went to buy a new one. While the size and speed of heating are fine, the top gets hot enough to burn your fingers. Other varieties have at least two layers of plastic and possibly insulation in between, and that's all this one needs to be an excellent appliance.

poorly designed,

This review is from: Krups 848 -70Aqua Control Compact Cordless Electric 4.4-Cup Kettle, White (Kitchen)
I bought one, and it lasted less than a year before it started leaking. Also the auto shut-off feature, when empty, didn't work, which could create potential fire hazard.

Works Fine,

I use this nifty little unit with a Mellita "two" cup coffee filter basket to make coffee for myself most mornings at my office (the provided coffee maker coffee is not so good). I've had it for about 4 years now, and it is still working fine. I wish I could find another for my wife to use at her office.

This Kettle Has Been Kind To Me,
By Teddy Roosevelt "Steve" (Spokane, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Krups 848 -70Aqua Control Compact Cordless Electric 4.4-Cup Kettle, White (Kitchen)
I have owned this kettle for at least two years. It has been perfect for my needs. Yes the little plug came out of the water window a couple times, but it was not a big problem since I just put it back. It has not come out since. Searching the market now, there appears to be no other small kettle with a comfortable grip as this one on the market today. I think it boils water faster than others available now as well. I bought a second one as a back up and plan to buy another for a gift.

What a piece of crap,
This review is from: Krups 848 -70Aqua Control Compact Cordless Electric 4.4-Cup Kettle, White (Kitchen)
Started to leak after 3 months of light use.
Having boiling water all over the counter is not the most pleasant thing.

I've had this little kettle for a few years now, and it is still going strong. It has lost its bright sheen and I was looking for a replacement, only to find that it is discontinued and that no other company, except Bodum, seems to make small kettles. It is just over 4 cups, which is just perfect for tea or coffee making, and the occasional cooking. It takes little space, is cordless, and the design is so much sleeker than the Bodum ones, which look like dorm food-warmers. It is a shame they have discontinued it. My model has had no problem at all, boils fast, and never seems to have had a problem with calcification.
I hope they bring it out again, maybe paying attention to the problems people have had. |
