Good little oven, October 19, 2004
This review is from: Krups FBE112 Convection Select Toaster Oven, Matte Black and Silver (Kitchen)
I have had mine for over a year and have used it for everything from pastries to cooking cornish game hens and it has not failed yet. Really easy to clean and nothing to be afraid of breaking when you do it like on the cheaper models which sometimes will have very poorly made connections on and around heater coils. Well engineered.

Great looks, lousy performance., July 11, 2005
This review is from: Krups FBE112 Convection Select Toaster Oven, Matte Black and Silver (Kitchen)
One star is the lowest choice. I wouldn't be that generous.
I've had good luck with Krups products in the past, which is why I purchased this toaster oven. I have since returned it.
For $69.99, I would expect both sides of the bread to be relatively evenly toasted. Aside from being incredibly slow in the toast function, I had to flip the bread over to toast the bottom side. It was burnt on the top edge and untoasted on the rest of the entire slice. After far too much time and hassle I had toast, but both sides had a burnt top edge. I tried this with both La Brea French Bread and Arnold Country White. Results were similar with both.
In the bake function, I baked two sweet potatoes and one russet. The russet and sweet potato on the right and left of the tray took far longer to cook than the sweet potato in the middle. Three strikes and you're out.
Two reviewers liked this toaster oven; one didn't. He generously gave it 2 stars. One point he made is worth noting. This machine gets very, very hot on the metal surfaces. Do not have anything remotely flamable such as a curtain anywhere near this product.
Perhaps mine was defective.
I ended up getting a replacement for the exact model I had from another manufacturer which worked fine for just over its one year warranty. I actually bought replacements of the same or similar model. Both were defective which is why I ended up buying the Krups. I ended up going back to the model I had and was able to purchase it for $3.99 plus tax with a coupon and rebate. So even if it only lasts a year, no big deal.
I intentionally didn't mention this other brand because it has been so totally unreliable for consistency. $3.99 is about what it's worth due to agravation etc. As long as it works it does a good job in the toast function and a very good job in the bake function...certainly far better than the Krups. It also is well designed and very easy to use.

If you don't mind the noise, March 31, 2005
This review is from: Krups FBE112 Convection Select Toaster Oven, Matte Black and Silver (Kitchen)
I've been using this toaster oven for about 3 wks and I am very happy with it's results for heating food. It reheated day old pizza to near perfect, with a crispy crust. Toast and reheated pasta dishes, etc., have all been quick and tasty. The size of the oven is very acceptable, fitting easily on my countertop with plenty of room between the oven and the counters edge for workspace. The unit looks nice enough, and does seem sturdy as the other reviewer mentioned.
My only complaint, and this could be a big one for some people, is the sound of the timer. As far as I can tell, you must use the timer to use the oven. And the timer is LOUD. Like a ticking time bomb. But...it didn't bother me enough to want to return it.
