4.0 out of 5 stars Good product for everyday use
Great item for a single person, not sure how it would hold up for a large family - would be too small to be useful.

I received the Krups convection oven for Christmas, and it's become one of the few kitchen appliances that I use on a regular basis, definitly more than I use my stove! So far, it's been great for toast, reheating pizza and frozen foods. I tried...

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks and works great, not practical for everyday use, November 17, 2004
This review is from: Krups FBE212 Convection Digital Toaster Oven, Matte Black and Silver (Kitchen)
This unit cooks and toasts great. This is my first convection type toaster oven and I love it. The stainless steel look blends in very well with modern kitchens. But it has the following drawbacks:

-Pretty loud - when you touch a button (any button) the thing beeps loudly. So if you are making toast first thing in the morning, you will wake everyone in the house up. (I immediately ripped out beeping thing from the circuit board, not recommended for the electrically challenged!)

- The cooking does not stop when you open the door.

- If sitting on the kitchen counter, you have to stoop down to see into the unit through the glass door.

- You have to virtually flip the machine over to empty the bottom hinged crumb tray.

- The unit has a digital clock. Just another clock you have to set after a power outage. A toaster oven really doesn't need a digital clock AND a digital timer, but that is my opinion.

On the flip side, the digital accuracy for selecting a baking temperature is much better than a knob configuration.

In summary, I expected more practical functionality in a unit that I paid this much for.

I tried baking pre-made frozen cookies and it didn't do so well. I found that it took alot longer than the package said and the cookies were slightly burnt although they still didn't look done. (But it could have been the cookies, frozen cookies suck anyway)

I agree with the other reviewer, the beeping is very loud and annoying. You can't set it to toast or cook something without hearing at least 5 to 10 loud beeps, but it wakes you better than a cup of coffee=)

All in all, it's a quality, heavy duty product that I use everyday and can't live with out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too digital, August 29, 2005
This review is from: Krups FBE212 Convection Digital Toaster Oven, Matte Black and Silver (Kitchen)
After my Delong died after 1 month, I got a Krupps. Even though it did have a clock and all that beeping, it was a much better toaster oven.

However, after 2 weeks of light use, the light went out. That made the toaster oven unusable, because I could not see if I was toasting, broiling or what. So that has to go back too.

I would get another one - causiously though. Just too much electronics

5.0 out of 5 stars Very even cooking!, March 12, 2006

This was a replacement for a regular toaster oven that died. We are extremely happy with the way the oven cooks. Toast comes out very evenly browned. Pizza reheated using the convection oven setting comes out with hot toppings, a crisp crust and not additional browned. Biscuits cooked using the convection setting browned on the bottom (not on top) and needed to be turned over halfway through cooking to keep bottoms from getting too browned.

It may not be perfect, but it's the best I could find. And this is hard to believe, but Krups seems to be the only manufacturer that cares to mention the size of their products. I had the situation where I needed a unit that would fit under a hanging paper towel rack and I wanted to make sure there would at least be enough counter space in front of the unit for food prep, serving, etc. I defy you to go on any other manufacturer's web site and find the dimensions of their toaster ovens. To me that seems like basic and necessary information, but apparently most manufacturers don't agree. Aside from that, this unit does come with the two boiler pans, which are essential if you want to do anything other than toast bread. Some other reviewers mention the extremely loud beep that must be endured every time you push a button. I have to agree there. It is painfully loud and you have to push multiple buttons to get it going, so if someone is trying to sleep while you're making toast, they will be awakened by the riduculously loud noise this thing makes. On the other hand, the noise needs to be pretty loud because you need to be alerted to when it's done cooking or toasting (so as to not end up with burnt food or a fire). However, they could have made it so that the regular button beep was a different volume than the alert beep. Other than that, this is a good unit and has taken heavy usage pretty well during the 18 months that we've had it.
