Product Description

Amazon.com Review

If you never deep-fry in your house because you want to avoid a huge mess and odors, the Azura deep fryer will have you thinking twice. A patented catalytic filtration system destroys all odors and visible steam from this fryer. Additionally, once food starts to cook, the Azura’s lid hermetically seals and locks to prevent oil spillage and splatter. A window in the top provides you with a view of your frying food without requiring you to raise the lid.

The Azura holds a maximum of 2.2 pounds of French fries, doughnuts, or shrimp in its rectangular frying basket. Controls for the basket are on the outside of the unit so you can safely lower the basket into the oil while the lid is closed. An adjustable thermostat lets you set the fryer to the proper temperature for the food you are cooking (up to 375 degrees Fahrenheit), allowing you to maintain a light crust on mushrooms but get a thicker, crispier fried coating on chicken. A ready light lets you know when the Azura has reached the desired temperature and a digital timer keeps track of cooking time for you for up to 99 minutes. For safety, this deep fryer has a plastic exterior that stays cool to the touch during frying, eliminating the risk of burns. When frying is complete, this appliance completely dismantles for easier cleaning and the lid, nonstick bowl, and basket can even go in the dishwasher. Krups offers a one-year limited warranty on the Azura deep fryer and a five-year guarantee on the permanent filtration system. --Cristina Vaamonde

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware -- Too Good to Be True, January 1, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Krups FCC112 Azura Deep Fryer with Catalytic Filtration (Kitchen)
Let me save many of you from making an expensive mistake. We bought this for Christmas. It's going back to the store tomorrow. While Krups is usually a dependable maker of great kitchen products, the Azura Deep Fryer is anything but what it is advertised to be. First, the catalysis filtering system is a joke. Our house was filled with the odor of deep fat frying within -- I kid you not -- 30 seconds after turning this fryer on. Second, the "anti-steam" lock had us laughing hysterically, as billows of steam jetting from the back of this machine, filling our entire kitchen ceiling with oily steam. Third, the easy-to-clean concept holds true for the pieces of this fryer that are detachable, but the entire unit was covered in grease splatters and took an hour to clean by hand. Fourth, the cooking table inside the instruction manual is not reliable. For example, it recommends cooking simple french fries between 9-16 minutes, when the packaging on the french fries said no more than 4.5 minutes -- way too much discrepancy if you wish to eat your hamburgers at the same time your fries are cooked. Fifth and finally (as if you need any more reasons NOT to buy this), the "viewing window" may be see-through when not in use, but the minute food is added to the heated oil, condensation, oil and steam render the glass utterly useless; you cannot see the food as it cooks. A tremendous purchasing mistake! Don't make the same one we did. This deep fryer isn't all it's Krupped up to be.

2.0 out of 5 stars This Fryer Has Problems, August 17, 2004

This review is from: Krups FCC112 Azura Deep Fryer with Catalytic Filtration (Kitchen)
I used a candy thermometer to verify the temperatures this unit achieves. I did this because the first meal I made in it turned out soggy. Before getting the Krups fryer, I had successfully made the dish several times in a pot of oil using a thermometer to keep the oil's temperature at 350 F., so I know how the recipe should turn out.

The unit I received reaches a maximum temperature of 330 degrees F. even at the maximum thermostat setting of 374 degrees F. The markings on the unit's thermostat do not indicate temperatures. Instead, they are marked as "1", "2", and so on up to "6". The fryer has a chart on it that shows the corresponding temperature for each number. It's a cumbersome arrangement.

The claim of reduced cooking smells is not fulfilled, either. Even following the manual's instructions to keep the lid open as little as possible, the cooking smells are quite strong.

The Krups design is nice, and the fact that several of the parts are dishwasher safe is convenient. However, it's a large machine that requires plenty of counter space and doesn't cook properly. I'm not sure how Krups can make the performance claims they have made for this machine. On the unit I have used (and will return) the claims simply are not true. I am very surprised that this unit has received any positive reviews from other customers. I can't recommend this machine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Deep frying with little or no odors, February 22, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Krups FCC112 Azura Deep Fryer with Catalytic Filtration (Kitchen)
Bought the fryer because we moved into an apt and did not want odors. Started with frozen french fries and followed the package timing for cooking them (the time indicated in the directions seemed too long as we used shoestring potatoes). We used canola oil and they turned out as good as Mickey D's without becoming soggy. We could see through the window easily while cooking and adjusted the cooking time to the color of the potatoes. The clean up was easy. Do be careful of steam release when you open the top after frying. For two people the amount you can cook is just about right. We are pleased with the fryer. It delivered as advertised.
