Slow - maybe, but zap a piece of bread with tons of heat too fast and you get a dry, brittle piece of toast. This toaster warms the bread/toasts it and at the lower settings you get a crisp toasty outside with an actual warmer inner layer of bread. Make sense? Can bread be overcooked to make toast? Yes-but the Krups makes it a science. I love it. It ranks as a Gourmet Toaster. Yeah - it's only toast, but it's the best thing to happen to sliced bread since, . . . well-sliced bread. My parents were visiting when I ordered and received it. Guess What? They just told me what they want for Christmas-Their own Krups Toaster (they'll get it early) Why wait?

What a nice addition to the kitchen. Great looking (but large) and toasts whatever we've thrown at it. I've seen a number of mentions that this toaster is "slow" but I'd say that charge is unfounded. Heck, it's not a microwave.

I particularly like the depth adjustment that makes removing different sized toasted products a pleasure. I can't tell you how many fingers I've toasted removing toast and bagels from the toaster. The range of toasting options available (from barely warm to dark and very toasted), separate bagel setting and warming tray make this toaster the cream of the crop.

Thanks Krups for a great product and Amazon for a better price.

we've had the toaster for about a month now and it is great. we did a lot of research after having a kitchen aid one go bad. this one does everything that is promised. even cooking, extra high lift to get toasted item out (even by kids), bagel setting, wide slots, etc. Very happy and would recommend.

This is by far the best toaster I have ever owned. After years of living with cheap toasters, I decided I had had enough of uneven and inconsistent toasting, slots that are too small, and trays that don't pop up high enough.

So far this toaster is flawless. The Bagel setting is fantastic, the extra high pop-up feature is wonderful, and everything I've put in it so far has come out toasted to perfection! I find myself looking for new stuff to toast at the grocery store.

The only downside is the size. I wouldn't recommend the 4-slice version for those with limited counter space, but if you have the room, you gotta getcha one a these!

I bought this toaster after reading a review of toasters in The Wall Street Journal. They rated this toaster the highest of the five they tested. It has lived up to its rating. We especially like the lever that raises the toast up above the toaster so your fingers stay well away from the heat.

I just purchased this toaster, and it has been a wonderful addition to our kitchen. It toasts flawlessly! I love the "Bagel" setting. It is very consistent from piece to piece, and it has a lot of settings. 2 Thumbs up!!

I found this toaster on sale at Amazon. They were clearing out the previous model year. The toast is a little uneven, being more brown on the top than the bottom, but overall it's well worth what I paid! The metal warming tray on the top comes in very handy for reheating biscuits or muffins!

This toaster by Krups is a delightful purchase on many levels. The cost was a tremendous value and the style of the item is very appealing to the eye. The toaster is easy to use and the preset settings such as bagel or defrost are very helpful. The crumb tray and top warming rack or easy to clean and the easy access make it a snap to keep clean. The four slice capacity and the extra wide slots make it easy for bagels and other unconventional items to fit. The Krups quality name is also another reason to purchase this toaster.

I only needed a new toaster because of the color. We just gave our kitchen a face lift and I needed a black toaster. I'm glad I got this one. It is large and takes more space than my previous toaster, but it's worth it. It takes longer than my other toaster, but I'm 100% positive that's why the toast is so much better. I read someone complain that it doesn't take "long" bread, but it does, you just have to turn the bread on it's side. Anyway, I'm quite pleased with this product.
