4.0 out of 5 stars Great kettle, but it gets VERY hot!
I love how this kettle looks and how quickly it heats water. I also really like that it is cordless and you can place it on the base without having to line it up. The only trouble is that the stainless steel gets extremely hot and stays that way for a long time. Overall, I would recommend this kettle for those who are concerned about repeatedly heating water in a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Ouch!
We ordered one of these for the office. While it does an excellent job of quickly heating water, many people have complained that the "cool touch" surface is nothing of the sort. Because of the design of the handle, your hand is likely to come in contact with the body of the kettle, which in my experience is anything but cool after heating water. We generally make a full...

We ordered one of these for the office. While it does an excellent job of quickly heating water, many people have complained that the "cool touch" surface is nothing of the sort. Because of the design of the handle, your hand is likely to come in contact with the body of the kettle, which in my experience is anything but cool after heating water. We generally make a full kettle, so perhaps it's less of an issue if you are only heating a cup or two.

The only trouble is that the stainless steel gets extremely hot and stays that way for a long time. Overall, I would recommend this kettle for those who are concerned about repeatedly heating water in a plastic kettle (like me), but if you don't care about that then you should get one that doesn't get so hot on the outside (most plastic ones cool more quickly or are insulated).

UPDATE! This kettle died after only two years! Buyer beware!

1.0 out of 5 stars Flaulty Lid, January 5, 2008

Krups FLF3 Stainless-Steel 54-Ounce Electric Kettle
I purchased a Krups SS Electric Kettle on October 2007 and after thirty days the lid would not unlock from the kettle. I contacted Krups Customer Service and they had never heard of this problem with the lid. The Customer Service representative even got a lid from their display to see how it worked. However, they could not find a reason for the difficulty. They told me to return it for a replacement at the store it was purchased. The replacement kettle was used for thirty days before the lid got stuck and would not come off. I now have a third kettle and hope this one will not have any problems. I like the kettle which does a great job boiling water. Maybe a third time is a charm. I would recommend a lid redesign. A simple lid without the current twist lid lock would solve this problem.

I was disappointed with this product and found that it, as a re-furbished kettle, it still did not function properly. Most importantly the automatic shutoff did not work, the spout filter fell-out every time you turned over the kettle to pour water excess water out into the sink and the exterior got extremely hot - scalding if you touched it.

1.0 out of 5 stars faulty switch, July 17, 2007

I had this kettle a year ago and six moths after I bought it the on/off switch stopped working. I liked the design so I replaced it with another just like it. I thought that this was just a case of bad luck. Today the swick on the new kettle did the same thing. I will try a different model next time. I sugest you so the same!

The capacity of this kettle is great - it's about a third of what you'd need to boil a decent sized pot of pasta. And I use it to kick start my pasta boils, because filled to the top, this only takes about 3-4 minutes to reach a full boil.

I use it for hot tea at night and filled to the top, I pour it over teabags in a pitcher for iced tea. Most iced tea pitchers are 64-ounces, so you have to add 10 ounces of cold water to the top, but that's perfectly fine.

I have owned my kettle for well over a year and have been tremendously satisfied.

I am very pleased with this item. Heats very quickly and is of solid construction. The handle configuration enables easy handling and operation without having to touch the sides of the pot. My only complaint is that it doesnt hold as much water as I would have liked.
I have owned two other water kettles and this one is the best.

This kettle is a health hazard. It is very hot to touch and one should be careful not to burn yourself. Will return the item.

I finally found the time to write this rewiev. Kettle stopped working in less than one year while still being under manufacturer's warranty. In the item's package, there was no contact info of the manufacturer or authorized service center, no clear directions how to get the warranty service. Closest authorized service center was located somewhere in Long Island, NY (I live in NYC), it was not possible (and not worth it to spend half of the day) to get there during business hours since we all work. I was not expecting something like this from Krups. I ended up buying the new kettle (different manufacturer).

Very shortly after purchasing this pot the spout opening, which has a sliding lid, kept getting stuck, and then just finally stopped working all together. So I just pushed it back inside the lid and there it sticks to this very day. It is VERY difficult to get the lid off and on, sometimes I have to pry it off. Most of the time though, I just pour the water into the stuck-open spout. (I would suggest you use purified water that contains NO minerals, that way you NEVER have to clean the pot of mineral build-up!) The cord IS very short, it's rusting inside, and it gets very hot on the outside of the pot!! Would I buy another one? No! Next time I'm going to buy a Thermo Pot because it holds more water and keeps it hot through out the day.
