Oh my gosh! I've been on a 3 year search for a blender that could handle my morning smoothy and I finally found it. This blender goes through frozen strawberries like butter. I bought one, more expensive blender, that in thier instructions said not to even try frozen strawberries.

I own the previous version of this blender. It worked great for 15 months, then the rubber gear that drives the blades shredded. Poof, game over. I dont know why I didnt notice it before, but the thing is basically designed to fail -- it's not if, it's when. Krups has no customer service to speak of "we leave support to our authorized service outlets." Hmmmm. Gotta love a company that wont directly support it's product. So, I called 'authorized service center' after 'authorized service center'. All were out of stock on this part, quoting 3 to 4 weeks to get one in. Finally I found a place in Arizona that had a couple, so I ordered two ($6 each plus shipping.)

These things will clearly fail. If Krups had put a couple extra in the box, I wouldnt be so upset, but now my blender is in rehab till the parts arrive, plus I've spent an extra $20 for parts for an already-expensice blender. For that $20 I could have bought a used blender that would probably last longer. And you know that some day Krups will stop making the part, and that will be that. The only thing that makes me feel better is the knowlege that I never have to buy another Krups product again.

PS: I understand that this new version of the product has precisely the same rubber gear.

Just want to confirm what one of the other reviewers said. The rubber gear in the base will eventually strip (although mine lasted four years). Otherwise it's a great blender, especially for smoothies.
