5.0 out of 5 stars Great little coffeemaker
Some have commented in their reviews that the coffeepot drips, that the pot itself is difficult to remove and replace into its alcove, or that the coffeemaker spontaneously turns on. This review is from: Krups KM1000 10-Cup Stainless-Steel Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
Some have commented in their reviews that the coffeepot drips, that the pot itself is difficult to remove and replace into its alcove, or that the coffeemaker spontaneously turns on. I value the consumer reviews posted here and usually heed them, but I loved the look of this coffeemaker so much and could find no other brands to match the styling and features of the KM1000 that I decided to risk it and order. So far, I have experienced none of these problems, and have been very happy with my purchase. The Krups KM1000 is a great little coffeemaker that not only makes a great-tasting, piping hot cup of coffee but looks good while doing it. Programming is easy and the price is right. My only fault with Krups is that not even a sample pack of cone filters was included with the coffeemaker as a courtesy, so be prepared with size 4 cone filters if you want to start brewing out of the box.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good News & "Challenges", December 9, 2008
Six months ago, my wife and I were at Macy's at the Glendale Galleria in Glendale, California looking to replace our 20 year old Braun coffee maker. Knowing of the Krups reputation and seeing a cool, blue, round, "digitized" analog clock on the demo unit, impulse buying got the better of us. Programming and using the KM-1000 was an intuitively obvious dream. The first pot - and six months of pots - of various Trader Joe's coffees have been wonderful...after we figured out that to return the carafe to the unit, you have to tilt the carafe backwards slightly to reduce the contact angle of the carafe lid and the filter basket.

But...after about 3 months, what looked like a calcium deposit began to form on the surface of the heating plate. No biggie. However, when it got bigger and bigger, closer examination revealed that the dark brown coating was coming off exposing the base metal underneath. The tech folks at Krups had never had any calls about it nor had the folks at California Electric which is one of the Krups factory authorized service centers. Fortunately, Macy's has a 180-day return policy so this afternoon it was returned.

Bottom line: Because the KM-1000 makes superb coffee, is a joy to use, and looks good just sitting on the counter top (the water reservoir looks like a translucent, semi-circular fish tank), I only hope that the coating problem was an isolated incident. Although you never see the coating failure unless you remove the carafe, if you're a perfectionist like me...

UPDATE: The replacement unit is vastly superior! Krups has totally redesigned the carafe. The pouring spout is much larger and now wedge-shaped making the dripping problem when pouring (I didn't mention that earlier) a thing of the past. Also, either the carafe lid and/or the filter holder has been redesigned such that I no longer have to tilt the carafe to return it to the heading pad. A call to Krups confirmed the redesign. With all new products, employees also test the unit and their comments are noted. However, it's only when customers call in with the same complaints/observations, that manufacturing changes are made. It looks like Krups actually listens to its customers. I would now give the unit a 5-Star rating.

The coffee maker had to be unplugged every other day and it was very easy to set up the clock. The blue light was a little bit too much (it used to illuminate the whole kitchen at night) and although it didn't bother us it stop working after three months, which we didn't mind. We don't know if the clock stop working by the third month as well, but after five months of use the electrical system completely failed, this coffee maker stop working. I consider this unacceptable for such a simple appliance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, good looking, fast and good brew, December 17, 2008
By
dorel_c (SPRING, TX United States) - See all my reviews
I owned the Krups KM1000 coffee machine for about one month.
So far so good:
Positive:
- the analog electronic clock. It has a very nice blue light and the "analog" design is beautiful. Nice little blue light in the kitchen during night.
- very easy to set the time and the auto brew:
H and Min buttons set the time on the clock. Push "Prog" button and the light in the ON/OFF button blinks blue showing that if you use H and Min buttons you can set the Auto-start time. After a few seconds it stops blinking and the time is programmed. If you push Auto, the On/Off button lights blue showing that it set to start automatically.
When is brewing the same On/Off button lights RED.
- very large filling mouth on th reservoir. It covers the whole back of the unit basically, so you can fill it using your right or left hand, as you please.
Negatives:
- The carafe lid can not be removed which makes it difficult to put in the dishwasher.
- Sometimes the carafe hangs in the filter support (in fact in the valve which stops the dripping when removing the carafe during the brewing cycle). You have to either move it a little back and try again, or wiggle it a little.
Overall none of the issues are big enough to deserve less than a 5 star when you consider the price also.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect, January 13, 2009
I recently bought this unit to replace another Krups coffee maker that began to leak constantly. This coffee maker is just about perfect. It's easy to use, easy to program, and makes great-tasting coffee. It looks great, too.

The only problem is the stainless steel surface. It's brushed steel. If you touch it, your fingers will leave dark fingerprints that are easy to see and hard to remove. I had to use a damp paper towel to get the marks off the metal. If you buy this model, you will have to train yourself to only handle the coffee maker by the plastic and never touch the stainless steel or you will be wiping it forever.

Having said that, I'm still glad I bought this coffee maker.

1.0 out of 5 stars Water all over the counter and floor!, June 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Krups KM1000 10-Cup Stainless-Steel Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I have always bought coffe makers from Krups, and so far they have all been great. Until this one.

Unfortunately I waited too long to qualify for a return, but if I could return this machine I would do so right away.

It seems that very little attention was given to the design of the carafe that comes with this coffee maker. No matter how carefully I pour water into the reservoir of the machine, or from the carafe into a cup, water/coffee gets all over the place! I have tried pouring really slowly, at a medium pace, and quickly. No matter what I do, I almost ALWAYS end up with water or coffee on my floor or counter.

I have never experienced this problem with other coffee makers, and it is really frustrating to have to clean up all of the time.

My other Krups coffee maker worked great, but the carafe broke and they no longer manufacture replacement carafes for the machine that I had, even though it was only a few years old. So, I was forced to purchase a new coffee maker.

If I could give this item 0 stars, I would. I do not recommend this product to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, efficient coffee maker, September 23, 2011

This review is from: Krups KM1000 10-Cup Stainless-Steel Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I have had this coffee maker for nearly a year now. I have had absolutely no problems with it. The design is beautiful, and while the light is bright, it is not overbearing. The pot does fit snugly, but there is no difficulty in getting it in and out. It produces a pot of coffee very quickly and I have never experienced leakage as I have with other all plastic-bodied coffeemakers. I not only would purchase it again, but I have given it as a gift to two other people who have been equally pleased with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. Steaming coffee. Best deal for the price., April 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Krups KM1000 10-Cup Stainless-Steel Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
My old Braun Aroma Deluxe coffeemaker died, probably from hard water deposits. I couldn't find a similar Braun replacement under $100. After reading tons of Amazon reviews, I bought this Krups and wonder why the rating isn't higher.

I love this new Krups machine. The coffee is very hot as you would expect from a coffeemaker with a German brand name. This is not a cheapo Mr. Coffee machine that generates lukewarm coffee. The Krups coffee seems as hot as the Braun coffee was.

After once accidentally leaving another coffee machine on during an entire weekend while I was out of town (thank God it didn't catch on fire), I will NEVER EVER buy a coffeemaker that doesn't have an automatic shut-off. That should be standard for coffeemakers, not an extra. This Krups has a two-hour auto-shutoff. The timer programmer is very easy to use. The carafe is solid and sturdy, not made of thin glass. I like the "house" that surrounds the carafe so that the carafe sits perfectly on the hot plate and doesn't get pushed off. The carafe always sits perfectly in the housing and hot plate. The carafe doesn't spill or leak at the spout like my old Braun carafe did so this is a big improvement over the Braun. With Krups, I can actually use the carafe to pour the water into the machine instead of having to use a measuring cup. The water tank is wide enough to pour water in without water dripping everywhere. The plastic cone you put the paper filter into is a little cheap and thin and I can picture the little handle of the cone breaking some day down the road so Krups, please work on that. The machine looks easy to clean because it has smooth lines and there are no crevices on the outside. Overall, at this price for a German coffee maker that makes really hot coffee, this was a great deal. I highly recommend it. (I didn't want to buy the popular Bunn coffeemaker because the water heater on Bunn is on all the time.) This is perfect. The picture makes the Krups look huge but in actually it doesn't take up that much space on the counter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dead in less than 2 Years!!!!, October 5, 2010
This review is from: Krups KM1000 10-Cup Stainless-Steel Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
Worked fine the other morning, but little did I know, it would be the last batch of coffee this thing would ever brew. Put in the grounds and water, came back later to a cold hotplate and no coffee. Lights are on, clock works; I even tried to trick it into brewing by setting an auto-brew program and sat glaring at it as the timer clicked on to automatic, and nothing..........no heat, no bubbling, no steam, not even a sigh.
Like others that reviewed this sorry piece of chinese crap, I too liked the looks and function of the Krups km1000, until it died.
Worked fine until then but suffered from all of the ailments others mentioned: carafe goes back in hard, hotplate coating all scratched off after two months, impossible to clean brushed stainless exterior.
It might make a nice clock, as all it will do now is sit there like a silly looking little blue eyed cyclops. Just a huge disappointment thinking I'd have this thing for a good long while after spending $80+ on it. Now I think I'll toss it out on the lawn and sight in my rifle with it.
P.S.- Don't bother trying order parts for it. Krups was no help in troubleshooting, and the repair company they use all but laughed at me when I told them I could fix it if I knew what the names of the parts were and could order them. Would you wait six weeks to spend $30 and up for a coffee maker part, only to have to solder it in yourself and have that not be it. I'm brave, but not that brave.
I'd look elsewhere for a tried and true model from another company. This thing is kraps!

1.0 out of 5 stars $12 for a cup of coffe!, December 10, 2009
This review is from: Krups KM1000 10-Cup Stainless-Steel Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I will admit that I did like it and it did a good job while it worked, but I bought this Krups coffee maker for $74, and it lasted for only 6 days. In those 6 days I only had one cup a day that means I had already paid over $12 for each cup that I had to make myself. I called the 800 number for the company and had, what I've found to be the usual problem with service number now, which is the automated operator tries to transfer to a real operator, the phone rings once then a minute of dead air before it cuts you off. This happened 4 times before I got through. I explained to the operator that the coffee maker was working fine until I came home one evening and it was getting no power at all. I had checked the outlet it was plugged into and tried it in two other outlets with no luck. She explained that the warranty required me to mail it at my own expense to an appliance shop in another state. She also said I should pay to insure it. I think that a company should be willing to stand behind its product and if there is a problem they should be willing to pay the expense to have it repaired. If they had done that I would have been willing to send it for repair because it did a good job while it worked. As it happened I returned it to the store, who gave me a full refund, and will not buy another Krups product again as long as they are not willing to stand behind their work and accept the costs if there is a problem.
