5.0 out of 5 stars The best home coffee and cappuccino maker available today!!!
Krups has hit a homerun with this new coffee/cappuccino maker. It is easy to use, flexible and makes both coffee and cappuccino easily and with no fuss or bother. 3.0 out of 5 stars The jury is still out
I've had my Home Cafe about 3 weeks now. My 16-year old son is addicted and loves the different flavors. I have managed to make my large mug of coffee by first brewing 6 oz. then adding another 7.5 oz. It is the perfect strength for me and gives me the ability to use my large cups.
That being said, the water container has been leaking when I remove to fill -...

Krups has hit a homerun with this new coffee/cappuccino maker. It is easy to use, flexible and makes both coffee and cappuccino easily and with no fuss or bother. I decided to order one when I saw the Folgers cappuccino pods in the grocery store and noted that they were for the Home Café system. They certainly did not fit my much-used Senseo. The Home Café system is similar in concept to the Senseo system but much better thought out and engineered. I have tried to compare the two systems below. I believe if you look at each one you will wind up as I have strongly preferring the Krups.

(1) The Krups system can make either one or two cups of coffee at the same time. Each will use one Millstone/Folgers pod. Strength can be varied by altering the amount of water used - 6 oz, 7.5 oz or 9 oz. The Senseo system by contrast can offer only two strength levels, full and half strength and can brew only one cup at a time.
(2) I found the low mug clearance (3 ½') of the Senseo a real problem. Most mugs are taller than this. The new Krups system has a clearance of a little more than 6". My travel mug fits under this.
(3) My Senseo sounded like steam engine warming up while the Krups is quiet. Both are noisy while brewing but the Krups is quieter.
(4) The Krups has a 48 oz water tank, the Senseo a 26 oz.
(5) The Krups has a carbon filter to eliminate chlorine, scale and other nasty things that ruin the taste of your coffee while the Senseo does not.
(6) The most important difference - cappuccino!! With the new Folgers cappuccino pods this machine makes an excellent cup of cappuccino with no more trouble than making a cup of coffee. I have tried a number of cappuccino machines in the past and this is the easiest to use and turns out consistently good results. It will not be as good as the best you ever had at Starbucks but it will be a lot better than the numerous disappointments you have had and more than good enough to draw compliments from your friends.

The big drawback to this machine - price. At $119 it costs more than twice as much as the Senseo system. It is however much more user friendly, provides a better cup of coffee and makes a great cappuccino to boot. I strongly recommend it as a present to any coffee/cappuccino lovers in your family or even to yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Krups KP1010 Home Cafe Pod Brewing Machine, October 27, 2005

I received the krups 1010 from Amazon yesterday. It makes excellent coffee! I purchased it to use in my workshop because of the one hour auto cut off feature. I once left a regular drip machine switched on for three days in my shop. It melted and burned after all the coffee evaporated out. I was lucky that it was plugged in on my welding table which is fire proof,or my shop may have burned also. Unfortunately my wife tried it this PM, and now I will have to get a second one for my shop. Our regular drip machine, a 10 cup Bunn, is now in a cabinet and the krups pod brewer belongs to my wife. Unlike a previous reviewer stated it will use a variety of pods. I purchased Seneso, Maxwellhouse, Yuban, and Millstone pods along with the 1010 pod brewer. They all work equally well. Fit and finish is excellent. It does not leak. It is fast and easy to use. It does not splatter. My wife and I can make two cups at the same time using different types of coffee in under one minute. I prefer the 7 1/2 oz setting using the Senseo Dark Roast. She likes the flavored varieties which I can not stand no matter what they are brewed in. It also has a setting for 5 and 9 oz. If you find that the flavor/freshness of the coffee in your regular machine deteriorates after the first cup you will be pleased with the consistency and freshness of this pod coffee maker.

5.0 out of 5 stars After Hours of Research, I Picked This One & am Pleased, April 18, 2006
By
This review is from: Krups KP1010 Home Cafe Single Serve Coffee Machine (Kitchen)
I'm totally pleased with this product. I researched the single serve coffee machines for hours on end. I selected the Krups over the Braun, the Keurig, the Senseo and the Tasimo for the following reasons:

1) the Krups can make 3 different sizes of beverage, with 9 oz being the largest;
2) the Krups can brew 2 servings at a time;
3) the coffee pods used by the Krups are widely available (even at Wal-Mart and my grocery store) whereas the K-cups (Keurig) and Tasimo discs are harder to find;
4) the Krups machine costs far less than the Braun;
5) the Krups comes with two different sized pod holders--large ones for coffee and small ones for tea (the idea is to have no transfer of flavors).

I use my Krups at the office. I keep gallon containers of bottled water nearby and can offer visitors a nice cup of coffee or tea. (You can put the tea bags into the machine itself or simply let the machine produce hot water and brew the tea in the cup). In the summer, I think I'll use it to brew a couple 8 oz. cups of tea, let them cool to room temperature, and then ice them down in a large glass. More cost effective than visiting the soda machine, and better flavor.

The Krups gets the water so hot that I've even used it to make Ramen noodles.

The Krups warms the water and and brews coffee quickly (in about a minute). The machine is not particularly noisy, and it does not make a mess. To the extent it ever sprays or splatters at all, it does so when the pod has not been carefully tucked into the machine. And even then, the mess is very minimal.

I also like the auto shutoff feature. This way I know that I won't burn the office down over the weekend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoying this new pod coffee maker..., August 30, 2005

I have used this for a few weeks and am very pleased with it. First, it makes a good cup of coffee, even without factoring in the convenience. I'm still trying different varieties. The French Roast is so far my favorite. By dialing in either 6, 7.5, or 9 oz, it is very easy to adjust the strength to your tastes. I find even the 9 oz to be strong enough.

The build is very sturdy, better than most of the other pod coffee makers. Charcoal filter in the water is a good idea for those living in the city.

Only disadvantages I see are that the machine is relatively expensive, it costs more per cup, of course, than a regular coffee maker, and your choices of coffees are more limited. But if you only want one cup in the morning on the way out the door, it's certainly quick, with no mess, and leaves no wasted, leftover coffee. I find it of good value.

4.0 out of 5 stars KP1010 Review, September 23, 2005
This review is from: Krups KP1010 Home Cafe Single Serve Coffee Machine (Kitchen)
This machine is much better than some of the other ones we've tried. The coffee itself tastes much better and stays warmer longer. I love the cup size selections because it allows for a wider range than most machines. The only gripe I have is that it still lets coffee splatter all over the counter to make a mess. Despite the high price, overall, it's a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Machine for People Who Like the Home Cafe Pods, June 15, 2006
This review is from: Krups KP1010 Home Cafe Single Serve Coffee Machine (Kitchen)
Well, I was foolish and bought a Black & Decker (more appropriately named Black & Wrecker) Home Cafe system since I like Millstone coffee. However, within a month that machine was filling water into the drip tray and spilling all over my counter top, making an extremely loud noise every time I used it, not to mention that it finally disintegrated into barely filling my cup with coffee! It was a true nightmare!

But I liked the pods so much that I looked around for another machine that might work better and found the Krups one. I just received it and it makes wonderful coffee without all the cleanup from water spilling and spraying all over the place! This machine is quiet, makes coffee quickly with absolutely no clean up after. Everything I could want in a pod machine!

One Note: If you are someone who loves coffee to the extent that you buy the best coffee, grind it yourself and expect a Starbucks quality, then you should not buy a pod machine. I am someone who normally drinks decaf with splenda and flavoring mixed in or vanilla lattes. For anyone who likes coffee but isn't a snob, this is the machine for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Near Perfect, November 26, 2005
By
I've had this coffee maker for what seems to be a few months... and I haven't had any real problems. The Homecafe pods are pretty good, but I'm not really a coffee expert -- I just need coffee, be it from a gas station or whatever. Anyway, it works smoothly, except it sprays a bit near the end to clear itself out... this would be fine if the spray was localized. It's not too bad though, just wipe the counter off every few days.

We got this for our small office, and it has been wonderful. We can brew two different drinks at once; if we need more, it only takes another 30 seconds. We didn't much like the coffee pods included with the machine, but there are dozens of online pod stores that sell excellent coffee and tea. Believe me, the difference is huge, so have fun experimenting!

If you brew tea, be sure to thoroughly rinse the pod holders. Early on, we had a few coffee-flavored cups of tea. Just run them underwater for 5-10 seconds-that's all. By the way, round tea bags work well even if they aren't officially made as pods.

This is a terrific machine. The ease of use and variety are terrific. I may buy another for home!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best one for the price, December 19, 2005
This review is from: Krups KP1010 Home Cafe Single Serve Coffee Machine (Kitchen)
OK, the Keruig machine makes a little better coffee but with trades offs. The pods for the other machine can not be found at the local supermarket and it cost a lot more. I also Love the dual pod system. I love the coffee and espiscally the latte's made with this system. Finnally a home system that makes good coffee house style coffee. Folgers and Millhouse both are behind the home cafe system which makes it easy to find the packages and not really that expensive.

If you are like me you have debated this for a long time. Reading all the reviews on amazon helped me make my decision. Even if i didn't buy the machine through amazon, time constraints for the holidays, needed it for a get together.

I really enjoy this machine it is well built and runs very nice and quite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Krups Home Cafe, November 2, 2005

I agree, this is a great product. I have owned it for about 2 months now. I have tried both the Keurig & Senseo & I believe that Krups is superior because
-it is higher quality than senseo
-it uses the pods system which is more economical & universal than Keurig.
Other strong points of the machine which differentiate it from others: 1-hr auto shutoff is definitely huge (some other machines don't have this), large water tank means less time spent refilling & works great for parties, can make 2 cups at a time. It even makes great coffee when you make your own pods with 4-cup coffee filters. (If other reviewers find the coffee weak, it might be because they are using senseo pods which are made for 4oz cups of coffee.)
I give it 5 stars because it's a high quality machine, makes great coffee, all at a reasonable price.
