2nd Time Around, Still Love It!,

This review is from: Krups R-XP4030 Pump Espresso Machine - REFURBISHED
My previous XP4030 began failing after 2 years (knob heating up, pump failing sporadically), so I shopped around, considering moving to a more strongly engineered machine, but locating the same model, factory refurbished, for under $40 ended that search. As far as I can tell, in looks and performance, this refurbished machine is as good as new. The 15-bar XP4030 makes an excellent cup (thick and aromatic crema, at least with Peet's French Roast) and creates fine foam for a cappuccino or cortado. I don't know if I would pay the $180 retail price for a brand new one--and since it's no longer Krups's latest machine in this range, it may be difficult to find new, in any case.It has the usual limitation of pump models in this range: it has a single tank for coffee and foam, so you have to wait about a minute for the pressure to build for foam after you've made the coffee; and making more than one cup w/foam at a time (for guests) can take time and process and risk the coffee's cooling in the meantime. The pump is also rather noisy--but that gives you an indication of its power. I don't know if a two-year life is typical for this machine; my daughter has one also--perhaps she maintains it better or doesn't use it as frequently--and hers is still going strong at four years.

The espresso out of this little machine has beautiful crema and the milk frothing, although a little slow, works well. My espresso is consistently very fine :). The machine itself looks like new and all the plastic parts must be new (they smell new!).Excellent deal for a sturdy little machine with a very small footprint.

Althought the overall build quality of this Chines manufactured Krups machine is not as good as previous Krups machine I bought that were made in Switzerland the quality of the cappuccino and espresso is excellent. Straightforward and easy to use. Produces very good pressure for frothing and the new steam wand design works better than the older Krups models. At this price this refurbished unit is a bargin that can't be beat. Highly recommended.

I've done quite a bit of research on trying to find the best (with in budget) espresso machine. It came down to Krups XP 4030 and the Delonghi C155. There are so many good reviews about the Delonghi, but I went with Krups since a friend of mine showed me how to use it and I also like the design of it.So far I've enjoyed the coffee it produces. My only concern is the pressure of which come out for frothing. I've looked on you tube to see some examples of operation to help me decide which machine is better. Currently, it takes about two cycles to fully seem the milk to temperature that extremely hot since the first cycle seems to just warm it up. I have found, recently, that the process goes a bit quicker by frothing first and then make the espresso. I've only operated the machine in that sequence once at this point so I can't make a fair assumption that it will always be as quick. I have, however, read that the sequence in which you make your cappuccino does make a difference in the speed of the outcome.

Good espresso machine. My old Krups espresso machine lasted more than 10 years. The only drawback is that the water level in the reservoir is only visible by opening its lid.

The Krups 4030 is a great espresso maker. A good amount of crema is produced with every cup. The coffee is really good. For the money I paid for it the coffee maker was well worth it. Their is one small problem water collects in a small compartmen at the base of the machine. The best advice is to put water in when ready to use not fill the tank and leave it. AOtherwise I am Happy and have no complaints about it. Great deal.

I was excited to get this machine because I have experienced Krups quality first-hand with their coffee makers, lasting 10+ years. Don't waste your time on this refurb though. It is a lemon. While it worked, it made good espresso, nice crema, reasonably hot (180F+) with proper pre-hearing, but the heater was always very loud and vibrated. After a month of light use, the pressure produced diminished significantly. Now it is a paperweight in my kitchen. The good news is I probably got my money out of it vs buying espressos from the local coffee shop I still like the Krups brand, but this is a clear miss. ...Back to the attic to recover my Krups steam espresso maker, which still works after 10 years |
