The other day I randomly wondered if there was a metal band called Warbeast, since it seemed like such an obvious and awesome band name. Typed it in on Amazon, and saw that, hey, there is a band called Warbeast, and they just released their first album a few weeks. Figured it was fate and that I should probably get it. Glad I did, because it is awesome! The vocals aren't typical thrash vocals, but that's ok. While I generally prefer the higher vox, Warbeast's deep, but clean vocal style is a welcome change. The music is heavy and thrashy, but not retro thrashy. The 80's influence is definitely there, but with a modern sensibility.

Pantera Phil produces, but that wasn't a specific selling point for me--though it doesn't hurt. If you dig metal, I say, buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thrash gem I didn't know I bought!, October 14, 2011

Yes, that sounds like somebody who was a little confused or worse at the music store, but I was in a hurry and intended to check out Warbringer. I grabbed Warbeast instead, the last part of the CD covered by the one in front of it. Anyway, as far as metal covers go, it certainly looked like the right one at a quick glance.
So when I got home and unwrapped it, I did a double take and thought, oh boy. I've just spent $15 on a complete unknown. But I was not disappointed. Seeing Phil Anselmo's production credit was neither here nor there, but at least I was sure I wasn't getting some scream core crap. Well, "Krush The Enemy" could be one of the greatest accidental purchases I'll ever make. This powerhouse has delivered a bruiser of a debut, one deep in musicianship that embraces all the best of thrash and stays farther away from those goddamn blast beats preferring for actual tempos, not that the drummer doesn't show off his chops in the right places, ala Dave Lombardo, which is pretty strong company.
Sonically, I'd put Warbeast somewhere in the "Vulgar Display of Power" era Pantera, recent Exodus, especially "Tempo Of The Damned", and Skeleton Witch, which means you're getting one heavy album. They feature mid-range vocals instead of screamo deathcore, guitar wizardry and plenty of their own identity to put these guys at the top of the new thrash outfits, good company with Revocation or Havoc. Evile might do well to take these guys out on the road, both having tons of energy and guaranteeing a hell of a show. We'll be hearing a lot from Warbeast if things go well for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars The east has ironbound the west has Warbringer, but the south rises again, August 26, 2011
This review is from: Krush the Enemy (Audio CD)
Just like when thrash first came on the scene it was dominated by east and west thrash slayer, megadeth, metalica vs. overkill. Then Texas bands rigor mortis gammacide and pantera came. This is a collabartion of all of those bands. Scott Shelby, Rick Perry, and Bruce Corbitt. Shelby and Perry share solo's flawlessly and Corbitts vocals will make your ears orgasm. Alan Bovee also shines in the album mainly with self run riot being bass heavy. Joey Gonzalez tears the album up with ridiclous drumming. The best technical song is Born with a blackend heart, but Stalker and the solos of Guardian angel are my personal favorites. See them live, although they've lost Rick Perry now for Bobby Tillotson.
