Maybe a little overboard...but worth it,
By
This review is from: Kryptonite New York Noose with Evolution Series 4 Disc Lock - 2ft. -6in. Chain 999539
I bought this bike lock because it was the best lock on the market (according to reviews), and I figured I will very likely one day own a bike that would be worth stealing. My current bike is not THAT valuable, but I still don't want it stolen...However, now that I own the Fahgettaboudit, it's almost too much...
It's definitely heavy. Wrapping it around my frame causes a noticeable weight increase, especially when leaning the bike and carrying it...plus, if I don't wrap it just right, the lock swings while I'm riding, which has clipped my ankle once (not a very pleasant feeling). The chain will crush just about anything in a backpack, and putting it on the bottom will be annoying when it comes time to take it back out...though a compartmentalized backpack would fix that. Some users say they can fit it around their waste, but when I tried I couldn't keep it on with a winter coat on to boot. Despite all this, I still highly recommend this lock. It doesn't even occur to me that someone will mess with my bike, no matter where I put it. If you own (or plan on owning) an expensive bike, there's no other way to go. For those that are wondering if you should upgrade to the 5' chain, I lock my chain to a 4x4 post, and I don't have a problem with it. If you can position your back wheel by the object, 3'3" should be long enough. I can't imagine what another foot and a half would do to the weight...

Very Heavy , Sturdy , Good against Muggers,
This review is from: Kryptonite New York Noose with Evolution Series 4 Disc Lock - 2ft. -6in. Chain 999539
I just received this lock today and was heavy! (15½ pounds!)
While I was unlocking my bike a guy came up and tried to mug me at night at 8 PM. This guy came up to me with a knife and said give me your stuff. Before I turned I said " Oh yeah?", I then proceeded to grab the chain and lock and started swinging violently and said " What now mother f****r!", the mugger got scared , dropped his knife and ran away. Pros: Strong Cons: Bulky , Heavy (15.5 pounds)

This is a very heavy duty lock and chain. I don't worry about my bike being stolen with this lock and chain. It is very heavy but I found it is easy to carry in a rack mounted bag. The only problem that I see is that the cloth cover over the chain is too short. It is difficult to lock my bike (which is a U frame) with the chain without scratching the frame when pulling the chain through it. Also, with a U shaped frame (the U being down toward the ground), the 3' length I purchased has been a bit too short in some situations. Many of the bike racks around here need to be locked on to higher up so if you want to run the chain through the frame and the back wheel and to the rack, it can be too short, forcing me not to run the chain through the back wheel. Otherwise if you are looking for something that will intimidate people looking to steal your bike, this is great.

Worth it!,
I bought this and the OnGuard Pitbull Mini Ulock to see which is better (my area is not really bike friendly, so no real bike racks, etc). Mainly, I needed something I could carry for running out to the store, etc, but didn't want to be weighted down by a heavier chain on my daily drive. After receiving both, I decided to send the Pitbull back.
First impressions: The chain and lock are huge, weighing in at nearly 5 pounds. More importantly, it screams 'scr*w you' to a bike thief. While all locks/chains/cables are deterrents and can be defeated with the proper tools (power or ortherwise) given time, it's hard to believe that someone would mess with this one as long as you use common sense and park in a traveled area and to a secure post. A lot of the bikes I've seen around here use flimsy cable locks, so I guess I'll be parking next to them from now on:-) Actual use: The key has to be down all the way before you turn it to unlock or lock. However, locking/unlocking the disc lock is smooth as silk. Now I have the two foot version of this chain (the 4 foot is 8 pounds, I think) so you have to make sure that your bike is as flush with the post as possible before cinching the chain to the post, running the other end of the chain through the rear wheel, and locking the disc lock with chain to the frame. I used a steel railing in front of Denny's today to lock it up...a slightly tight fit but no problems there. I might have gone with the 4' version except that's a lot of weight to lug around for occasional use...this one does just fine! Besides, I have to carry a cable around for the front wheel so I don't need too much weight! Storage: While you could probably wrap this around your frame easily if you wanted to (the cover that goes with the chain is not long enough and the exposed chain might scratch the paint) I store mine in my rack bag behind me without any problems. Overall, worth the money. Gives you more options than using a ulock, and looks imposing too. The only real drawback is that the cover for the keyhole wants to pop open (exposing the cylinder to dust, etc) but since it will be in my bag that's just a minor issue.

The New York Fahgettaboutit Chain and lock is for hard-core urban theft protection. Easy to carry, slung over the shoulder; easy to use. Seller provided prompt secure shipment.

Cover wears out, lock wears out.,

I wore out the lock after 3 years of daily use to the point where it would not unlock and had to be cut off with a torch.
The cover meant to protect your bike's finish from the chain is very thin and flimsy, it also wore out and as a result my bike is covered in dings. The only thing saving this from one star is that it genuinely did save my bike at one point as you can see where someone tried to take boltcutters to it and was unsuccessful. Even the Masterlock bike chain has a crappy cover, I wound up making one from thick upholstery fabric for this chain and it's working much better. I replaced the lock with a boron carbide Masterlock.

So far so good for a scooter,
By
This review is from: Kryptonite New York Noose with Evolution Series 4 Disc Lock - 2ft. -6in. Chain 999539
I actually bought this for a Honda Metropolitan scooter and not a bicycle. I bought the scooter last summer and with it I picked up a cable lock to keep it secure. I have a private alley behind my house and figured that the lack of visibility and basic deterrence of the cable lock would be enough to keep me safe.
Well...over the New Year's weekend I went out to grab the scooter for some errands and saw that someone had cut nearly all the way through the cable lock. They must have been spooked before they could finish the job because there were only a few threads of metal left in the cable. I headed into town and got what I had been planning on getting all along--the Kryptonite New York chain. It's not cheap. It's not light. But if someone wants to cut this they will need an angle grinder and a good 15-20 minutes of undisturbed workspace. I feel like the price is worth it to know that my scooter is most likely safe. If someone really wants to go through the trouble of cutting this thing and stealing my scooter, they can have it. I have insurance anyway. I just don't want to make it easy on them. The only downside is that for a scooter this is a little short. I can get it through the back wheel and around a phone pole if I park it in just the right position but anything else is out of the question. I would have loved one with another foot or two made specially for scooters. As it stands, I will still rest assured that my scoot is safe for the night.

If you need a long super secure chain to lock your bicycle or motorcycle shed a couple of pounds and get the 4ft 6" NY Noose. The Noose has a loop on one end so you can run the chain through it. It takes an extra moment to lock your bike, but it's more flexible in ways to lock the bike and it weighs less. Both chain systems use the same basic lock so no savings there.
Don't get just the chain and one of those big ULocks, then the lock becomes the weak link in the chain so to speak, and then what is the point of carrying all this weight around? Either way your frame and wheels will still be there when you return even if they've stripped off all the other parts... Hopefully just the sight of the lock will cause the thieves to just pass on your bike and take something easier like a car.

I received the lock promptly and put it to use right away. I have been very pleased with the added security that this locks provides both with it's ability to withstand attacks and in it ability to simply intimidate a thief. It is ungodly heavy, but I can justify that considering my bike is worth it. Why by a 20 dollar cable to protect a $1300 bike?! It's in a investment that pays off every time you come back to find your bike still there waiting for you at the bike rack.
