3.0 out of 5 stars K Kids Crib toy
Well, I loved this thing. However, we have only had it a few weeks and the squeak is already broken or not working in one of the cheeks of the pelican. I emailed K Kids, but haven't heard from them. I'd exchange it via Amazon but it's not worth the postage unless Amazon will exchange free of charge b/c of it being defective. It was not a cheap toy.

Our Hungry Pelican is now on child number three and shows no signs of wear despite being a favorite crib toy for many years.

The bright yellow velour pelican ties onto the crib railing. His fat cheeks squeak, his wings crinkle, and his feet rattle. He comes with four sea creatures (crab, shrimp, fish, and octopus) that are each different textures and colors, and make different sounds (rattle, rustle, etc.). Children can put the little animals into pelican's mouth and watch them drop down into his tummy. The large circular tummy opening allows for easy removal of the animals so play can begin all over again.

I found that babies enjoy quietly investigating the sounds, colors, and textures of the four little sea creatures. Toddlers progress to the eating game.

I am grateful to Mr. Pelican for allowing me an extra half hour of sleep every morning. What can be better than that!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good to play with but not repetitive, January 6, 2009

The Hungry Pelican is ok. I gave it as a gift to my niece for her 1st Bday and she has fun with it, but... only when the Pelican is outside the cradle. We need to tie the Pelican outside the cradle so she will play with it.

She got the notion quickly of feeding the Pelican. She stuffed all the small animals, but only once every time! I think she's a smart girl thinking once the animals are inside of the Pelican's tummy, well, he's already fed.

She does, however, play with the small stuffed animals and carries them all around the house.

5.0 out of 5 stars simple, quiet and fun, June 30, 2008

We love this toy - it has lasted two kids and still in perfect condition. The pelican's belly doubles as a pacifier holder - our daughter knows where to go looking for them when it's naptime and she puts them away there too when it's time to wake up. I've also noticed that both our kids for some odd reason liked to snuggle underneath the pelican's fuzzy feet while they are sleeping (it just barely touches their foreheads when lying down) - at first we used to move them because it seemed uncomfortable but they just go back - they really seem to like it. It makes some crinkly and some (quiet) squeeking sounds - more subtle than many toys these days. A perfect crib toy.

I bought this for my niece, for her first birthday. She is 20 months now and still loves her "Birdy". When she was around 12 months, she loved the sounds that the different pieces made. She would put the different creatures in and out of the open tummy, as she didn't realize the beak opened. But once we showed her and modeled the play a few times, she caught on and used the beak to play with as well. She didn't sleep in her crib much, so "Birdy" was attached to her crib from the outside. So she could sit on the floor to play and still reach it.

From an educational standpoint, I am a speech pathologist, so I wanted to make sure that the toy could be used for educational moments. You can use this toy to teach basic concepts like "In vs. Out" , and if you use other objects to play with you can do colors, or naming of objects to increase vocabulary. You can also work on play concepts like feeding/kitchen play, and using words like "yummy", "MMMMMMmmm", requesting for "more".

I only wish that there were (a) more creatures and (b) the type of creatures were a little more simpler from an speech development standpoint... Kids first set of 100 words won't be crab or octopus... But you can always change up the objects to match the vocabulary of your child when you want to do some educational play.

Loved the product (very soft!), came in a nice presentable box and would definitely buy again for other children!

I am SOOO happy I purchased this toy! I was looking for a crib toy to occupy my 10 month old for just a little longer so we could get more sleep in the morning. She LOVES it! All the toys keep her occupied and gives us an extra half hour easy!

All three of my girls had this in their crib. It's a favorite, they love taking the 4 sea animals out of the pelican's belly and feeding them back in his mouth. I will purchase for future baby shower gifts.

What a unique, high-quality toy! Fun for babies and Pre-K. Squeaky cheeks, rattly feet, crinkly wings - 4 cute sea creatures to put in the Pelican's beak - and fall down to inside the tummy, where baby can reach in and start all over again! A great quiet way to keep baby entertained in her crib or play-yard. Or maybe even on the back seat/headrest of the car. I am very impressed and will be looking for other K's Kids toys in the future! My 7 mo old is enjoying it!

Where do I begin? This pelican is sooo cute! He has squeaky cheeks, wings that crunch, and legs that rattle. He comes with four miniature plush snacks: an octopus that squeaks, a fish with a "crunchy" sound, and shrimp and crab rattles. The objective is to open the pelican's beak and "feed" him these four creatures. They then pop out through his belly and the fun begins all over again! I bought this product as a gift and am really looking forward to giving it to the baby I bought it for. I even nicknamed him "Mr. Pelican" and will pass this name onto the baby's parents when I give it to the baby. What a great toy! I highly recommend purchasing it!
