Product Description

So you want a rack that's even lighter than the Alpha? We put the Beta through boot camp and it came out leaner and meaner than ever. We decided to keep things simple with the Beta, all you get is the lightest and easiest to use hitch rack of all time. It hauls two bikes instead of three so you have an excuse to leave "glued to his blackberry guy" at home. It comes in our most popular color, black chrome. Lifetime Warranty

If you are looking for a bike rack that's light weight and easy to handle, but still tough - this is it.

My wife will want to use this on her own, so the light weight makes it easy enough to handle - unlike the steel racks that weigh twice as much.

Another feature I really liked is that the rack is made to fit either a 1 1/4" hitch OR a 2" hitch, no adapter required.

This rack is brilliantly engineered and the manufacturing is top quality. If you are looking for a two-bike rack look no further. The anti-sway feature is worth the extra money. This is my first bike rack and I have nothing to compare it to, but I cannot think of how it could be inferior to any other similar product. I suggest buying a locking hitch pin to protect your investment.

The Kuat Bike Rack is the best bike rack I have ever used. Light weight (I have a bad back), and east to use. The bike does not wobble with the 4 strap attachment system, the mount rotates 360 degrees so the bike can be mounted right or left, and the rack doesn't wobble in the hitch because of the cam tightener. I would recommend this rack to anyone.

After doing a fair amount of research, I went with the Kuat Beta rack because it is significantly lighter than anything else on the market. My wife will want to use this on her own, so the light weight makes it easy enough to handle - unlike the steel racks that weigh twice as much.
I was impressed right away by the finish quality. Install on the car was slick and securing the bike was simple and effective. The best part - when I got home it was a snap to whip the rack off and hang it away without the usual wrestling match.
I was worried that the light weight would equal a "cheap" feel and lack of durability. The rack actually feels just as "beefy" as steel racks - the welds look very clean and this thing seems like it should hold up for years and years...

Great rack. Very simple and plain. Works perfectly. Much stronger than it looks. Bikes don't move at all, even on rough road. I looked at a few of the other "popular brands" - Thule, Yakima, and Swagman - and learned about the Kuat from a local bike shop. After looking at it and other reviews online I was sold. The other manufacturers light weight options were twice as much and not as good of a quality product as this rack. Another feature I really liked is that the rack is made to fit either a 1 1/4" hitch OR a 2" hitch, no adapter required. I needed a 2" hitch and didn't want to have to use a 1 1/4" hitch rack with an adapter. Just didn't seem like it would be as strong to me. I highly recommend this rack for anyone who is looking for a light weight hanging bike rack.

The anti dampening screws and high quality construction make this a great rack for a small car. I was able to put two heavy mountain bikes on it with no problem at all.

The Kuat 2 hitch rack is lightweight aluminum and designed beautifully. Everything tightens up so no rattles or shaking. My carbon road bike fits nicely and goes on and off quickly. Good road clearance. Best rack I have seen.

My Amazon order missed the estimated shipment delivery, and I ended up getting one from a LBS. The Amazon item did ship in the retail box, which arrived much more damaged/beaten up than I would have liked. Didn't bother me that much since it was going back to Amazon, but something you might want to be aware of.

As for the product itself, I ran into the same issue that J in LA and Grigori ran into. I have a Class 1 Curt hitch on my MINI and out of the box, there was no way the Beta would have been able to fit in the hitch receiver. I immediately reached out to Kuat Customer Service. They stated that their 1.25" racks do not usually work with Curt hitches as their inside measurement is exactly 1.25" and Kuat rack's outside measurement is 1.25". They instructed me to remove some of the powder coat to be able to use the rack. Consulting with the LBS, I was told to use regular sand paper to accomplish this. I was also assured that doing this would not affect my warranty and that since the part that I was modifying (the lower end) was stainless, I should not have major issues with rust. I opted to go ahead and go this route and was able to finally get the rack on to my hitch receiver after a few hours of sanding.

At the end of the day, it would have been great to have been able to install this straight out of the box (or at least been warned that slight modification might be necessary). Otherwise it appears to be a great, high quality product that I would still recommend.

I purchased a Beta and the shank or tongue of the rack won't fit into the receiver on my hitch. My hitch is the hitch supplied by the factory for a 2014 Acura RDX. The shank for the ball hitch that came with the Acura hitch fits perfectly, and it's just ever-so-slightly smaller than the Kuat shank. I called Kuat customer service, and they said that the powder coating on the shank is sometimes too thick and causes this problem. They suggested I either file down the shank somehow (I'm not sure what one uses to file down baked on metallic powder coating; it's not like it's wood or Bondo, and you can just use sandpaper); or upgrade to the $428 Sherpa hitch, which they said would fit perfectly. I wonder how they know that the Sherpa will fit perfectly even though the Beta won't fit. I'm bummed because the Beta seemed like the perfect solution for what I needed.
