Product Description

The Kuat Vagabond Roof Rack is so simple & functional we're just sad we didn't think of it. Instead of wasting space with just two bike trays, the Vagabond simply incorporates the two bike mounts into a roof cargo rack. Looks like your next road trip to Fruita might actually have some leg room since the beer cooler & helmets are now riding on the roof, instead of shotgun. Made from steel because it's realGrid basket has multiple tie downs so gear arrives safely with youTwo integrated skewer mounts allow bikes to be mounted along with cargoFlat-black powder coat with visor is just waiting to be plastered with stickersWeight Capacity: 160lbs

Probably the best choice out there for those who are looking for a bike rack and some more cargo space without spending $500. The fork stands are the main reason I chose this and they are very nice but did not come with skewers. Not really a problem, i bought a pair for $15. Comes with little straps to hold rear bike tire down. The brackets fit my 06 Hyundai Tucson with no modification. The only kink was they only sent six crown nuts instead of the eight needed. The bag was sealed so I will be calling Kuat. We'll see how smooth that goes.

Fit mazda 5 factory roof crossbars. Also fit Nissan Frontier factory crossbars with different bolts. Like the bike attachment too.

2008 Toyota Rav4

I had never bought a roof rack before and was pretty uncertain about which to get. I've been very happy with this.

ASSEMBLY:
The assembly wasn't too bad (20-30 mins) but required 2 people in order to get the rods to line up right. The roof attachment was kind of a pain because they HAVE to be hand tightened and the screw threads are pretty long. Therefore, this took some time and effort to hand-tighten down. It wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it would have been nice if there was and attachment I could use with a drill to tighten these on.

INTEGRITY:
I've been very impressed with the reliability of this. I've admittedly pushed the "safe" values on this and have had no problems. I have taken two 6 hour trips, driving 80-90 mph for most of it, and with crosswinds up to 20 mph for most of it. Those trips had lighter road bikes on them and I had ZERO issues. It held up very well. I also took two 2 hour trips, driving at 75-85 mph, and also with crosswinds up to 20 mph. This trip was with a mountain bike and I also had a 6-gallon water container on there. I had no issues whatsoever.

USAGE:
I don't load bikes everyday but I leave this on my SUV. On the highway, especially on longer trips, you will absolutely notice a decrease in fuel efficiency. I'd estimate anywhere from a 10-20% decrease. Also, the faring in the front does create some wind noise, but it's not bad and you get used to it after a week. If you are loading bikes on this that don't have a front axel/skewer quick release, you might want to get one. You don't necessarily need it as you can just use the axle from your front wheel, but it does make things quicker for loading/unloading. I bought Avenir quick release and I'm happy with it.
