I saw this corn zipper reviewed in Good Housekeeping, and decided to give it a try. I was a little put off by the price, which seems high for a glorified vegetable peeler, but I process a lot of corn from our garden and wanted a better way to do it. Free shipping from Amazon.com made it worth the gamble.I received it yesterday and used it to de-kernel a dozen ears of corn from our garden. It worked like a charm! The kernels are neatly cut off into a waiting bowl, without any waste left on the cob. The zipper is rounded so it follows the curve of the cob better than a knife can. It is extremely sharp on the cutting edge (obviously) so holding the corn safely and cutting away from your hand is very important. But I highly recommend this handy little tool to anyone who cuts corn off the cob for freezing or canning, or even just to serve fresh at dinner.

BEWARE OF BLADE WHEN YOU OPEN IT !!!!,
By
This review is from: Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper (Kitchen)
I think the concept of this is great, but the design of the safety cap covering the blade is BAD and DANGEROUS !!!. I also pulled the guard off the blade using my thumb and forefinger. Didn't yank just pulled and ended up cutting the pad of my forefinger off. A hunk the size of a dime. Had to go to the ER and am still healing after a week. There is no other way to pull it off other than what I did. I'm a trained Chef and I've had courses in knife safety. I've never had such a bad cut with a knife in my life as I have with this device. I think that the safety guard should be bigger/longer and have a better way of removing it so that your fingers never come close to the blades. Beware of this issue....

Great little gadget.,

I saw this on display at Sur La Table and chuckled, thinking it was another ridiculous uni-tasker, as Alton Brown would call it. They had some corn to play with, so I couldn't resist and tried it out. I was impressed with how smooth and thorough it was at removing the nibs from the cob, but still thought, "Why? I can do that with a knife almost as fast and just as well." So I didn't buy it.I thought about it later and realized that not everyone has taken knife skills classes, and not everyone WANTS to use a knife as often as they can. I decided to buy one as a gift for a friend who can't really manage corn on the cob, but loves fresh corn. She LOVED it and has thanked me every time we've spoken since I gave it to her. So yes, it's a great little gadget, for anyone who wants or needs such an item.

I bought this product and removed removed the plastic safety cap to check it out. Ended up in the ER. Yes it is sharp needs directions on removing the cap hold it by the ends and remove do not pull up from the middle!!Now it works great for removing corn. Cuts easily and makes short work of the corn.

Perfect for a few ears,
By
This review is from: Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper (Kitchen)
This removes several rows from the cob so cleanly, they aren't even displaced and you question if you've actually cut the kernels off. It's really sharp and efficient. For large batches, I use a Microplane adjustable slicer, which does a whole ear in 5 slices, but when I'm doing just a couple of ears, I wanted something small and simple. I've tried other zippers but was annoyed that they removed so little at a time. This little tool does the trick. I do have to make two passes since I remove the kernels on the bottom half of the cob in one pass and then turn it around and do the top half, and I do make a bit of a mess with stray kernels getting sprinkled around the work area, but I'm not complaining since it does a good and thorough job pretty fast. I'm sure as I get more proficient it will go even faster (and more neatly :) I can serve corn on the cob for the adults and swipe it off for the little ones, or remove the kernels for a soup easily with this zipper. Of these various tools, I find this one works the best.

This item is fantastic! It eliminates the hassle and frustration I've always experienced when using the board-like corn cutter, to say nothing of never have to worry about skinned fingers ever again. It does an excellent job of getting every kernel and all the juice from the cob.

The Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper was the best purchase I've made in a long time. It's available in the plastic model, which I purchased, or in stainless steel. It made the process of stripping the ear of corn so easy. The blade is very sharp, it fit in my hand perfectly which made the process very concise. I am so glad I searched for it here on Amazon.com and the price was just right as well. I would recommend this product to everyone.

This is one of those simple yet exceedingly effective kitchen gadgets you will wonder how you ever did without. It works like an absolute charm - makes very quick work of taking kernals right off the cob for fresh corn minus the mess and fuss. No more canned corn - just use this little gadget, steam your kernals and keep all the nutrition. Takes just minutes to eat healthy, nutritious and delicious corn rather than open a can and eat soggy, flavorless, salt laden, preservatives.

The corn zipper worked really well. It took a few minutes to get the hang of it. But once I did it was easy. Although I found it wooked better when I held the corn cob horizontally instead of vertically, as suggested in the instructions.

Having a teenager with braces prompted me to buy this gadget and I couldn't be happier. It works soooooo much better than a knife. I've since "zipped" and frozen 2 dozen ears for sweet corn during the winter months.
