Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Great strides have enhanced the Duromatic pressure cooker since its inception in 1949. Swiss company Kuhn Rikon has made the pressure cooker quieter, safer, and a smart option in today's world, given how quickly it cooks and how much energy it saves. Pressure cookers are rapidly gaining in popularity, and this one is an exceptional model crafted in Switzerland. You'll find such foods as rice, grains, stews, poultry, and vegetables cook in just one-third the time of conventional methods, and retain vital nutrients. Choose from a variety of sizes to meet any household's needs. By saving 70 percent of the gas or electricity normally used in conventional cooking, the pressure cooker can pay for itself in just months.

This Duromatic Trio set consists of three pressure cookers: 4- and 6-quart sizes, and a 2-1/2-quart size that doubles as a sauce pan. Each is constructed of 18/10 stainless steel that encapsulates a solid aluminum core in the base for quick, even heating. The larger two share a stainless-steel lid, and two glass lids are included for regular stovetop cooking. Put in your ingredients (recipes are included), and the integrated lid automatically locks and won't open under pressure. A new generation spring-loaded valve uses red lines to show you at a glance whether the right pressure has been reached, and when cooking is done, you simply turn the knob for quick or slow release. Unlike old models, the Duromatic cooks quietly, without hissing, and five safety releases let you rest assured the pressure won't get too great. Also included in this set are 2 steam basket inserts, 2 steaming trivets, and a cookbook. Kuhn Rikon covers the dishwasher-safe Duromatic cookers with a 10-year warranty on materials and workmanship, and guarantees parts will be available for 15 years. --Ann Bieri

Product Description

Sleek, easy-to-use Durmotic pressure cookers let you make the most of beautiful garden or market fresh ingredients, quietly and safely. Kuhn Rikon revolutionized pressure cooking by inventing the automatic lid-locking system and the spring-loaded stationary safety valve. What hasn't changed about pressure cooking is the principle: by sealing ingredients and liquids in, foods cook in a very short time. The Trio Set includes three pressure cookers: 4-quart, 6-quart which share a pressure lid and a 2.5-quart pressure saucepan for smaller recipes. Two glass lids are included so all pieces can be used for regular stovetop cooking. Completing the set are two steaming trivets, two basket inserts and a cookbook. Kuhn Rikon has revolutionized pressure cooking by inventing the automatic lid-locking system and the spring-loaded stationary safety valve. The only thing that hasn't changed is the principle by sealing ingredients and liquids in, foods cook in a very short time retaining flavor and vitamins and conserving energy.

This is my first experience with a pressure cooker, but after reading some reviews and doing some online research the Kuhn-Rikon brand consistently did very well. After a few uses, I gained confidence that I wasn't going to take out half my kitchen and I quit taking the lid off like I was diffusing a landmine. I have to admit that I am very impressed in the quality of the cookware AND the results. Cooking time is next to nothing and everything tastes great. Unless you like to cook LONGER then this set will be a great addition to your kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Green cooking!, September 3, 2009

This review is from: Kuhn Rikon 3150 Duromatic Trio 12-Piece Pressure Cooker Set (Kitchen)
I got a Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker for my birthday about 15-20 years ago. I know they're guaranteed for ten years, but mine is still going strong. I had to replace a gasket once and I also had to replace a spring in the pressure indicator device on the top of the pot. But that has been well worth it.

My favorite thing about it is how little energy it uses. Even after soaking it can take more than an hour to cook beans in a regular pot. The house gets hot, the stove uses lots of electricity, and the beans end up with a kind of grainy sauce. Plus I have to "nurse" them by adding water and making sure they don't burn.

But with this device I only use the stove for about 17 minutes. Five to get up to the right pressure and 12 to cook the beans. So it saves lots of time. And the beans are beautiful when they are finished cooling down. They're as pretty as canned but softer (I cook mine at the high pressure for the maximum recommended in the instructions). If I WANT the grainy sauce all I have to do is mash up a few beans and add them back to the pot.

I'd heard stories of people using pressure cookers and getting beans all over the ceiling and everywhere else in the kitchen-- every nook and every cranny. But this cooker has several safety features that prevent that from happening. I suppose if you took a nap while cooking it might still be possible, but I haven't ever had that trouble.

I did burn rice once, but it seems to have been because I overfilled it. There's a line inside the pot telling you where the maximum fill is, and I went over that and the rice was burned.

So I want a bigger one now so that I can cook more brown rice at once and I want to be able to cook more than one dish at a time using a pressure cooker. I haven't decided whether to splurge on a big set or just buy one more pot. It's expensive, but I am convinced that it saves money in the long run by decreasing cooking time and air conditioner output for the kitchen.

Thanks Callie for giving me this pressure cooker. I still love it and use it often.

I love you too!!!

Hugs, Wanda.

We have three Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers that we use almost every time we cook - it's the main cookware we use. It's fast, easy, and it saves energy because it takes less time to cook. And the food's gerat - I like eating at home better than any restaurant.
