5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing beats Kuhn Rikon!
I don't know what I would do without my pressure cooker! and I know I would not buy any other kind but Kuhn Rikon. There is no way to be disappointed with this product unless you just don't know how to use it. We are vegetarian and live on a very healthy, grain, rich in legumes type of diet .. my kids love rice cereal, steal cut oats ..etc. and I just can't imagine making...

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing beats Kuhn Rikon!, September 13, 2007

I don't know what I would do without my pressure cooker! and I know I would not buy any other kind but Kuhn Rikon. There is no way to be disappointed with this product unless you just don't know how to use it. We are vegetarian and live on a very healthy, grain, rich in legumes type of diet .. my kids love rice cereal, steal cut oats ..etc. and I just can't imagine making life easy without one of these .. instead of having to plan ahead or wait 45minutes to 2 hours for some dishes *(like barley and wild rice) it takes anywhere from 2 minutes to steam veggies and cook pasta, to 30 minutes max for the harder grains (without soaking!) I highly recommend this product ... it is an essential must have in every kitchen! just throw everything in (all those yummy grains, veggies, and even meat if you like, with a good broth) lock it and let it do its thing! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Know your size, September 24, 2008
This review is from: Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Anniversary 3.7-Quart Pressure Cooker (Kitchen)
Although I love this pressure cooker, I wish I had purchased a larger size. That is entirely my fault. Clearly I'm not going to make a huge soup in a 3.7 quart pot. Potential buyers should think about what it is that they expect to cook and how much, and then select an appropriate size. 3.7 quarts sounded big enough to me, but remember that the pressure cooker can only be filled half way for pressure cooking soups, grains, beans, and foods that expand, or 2/3 full for other foods.
The pressure cooker comes with a recipe book, however all the recipes are for size 4 quart or larger pressure cookers (except the frying pan recipes).

The instruction manual says it is NOT suitable for apple compote, cranberries, porridge (oat flakes), barley, peas, pasta, macaroni, rhubarb, or some cereals because those foods tend to foam and froth and could block the valve.

Otherwise, this pressure cooker is great! I have no problems with it. It works wonderfully. I will happily use it to make my dried beans, brown rice, and veggies.
Someday I may even buy a bigger one :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable...!!!, November 5, 2007

This review is from: Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Anniversary 3.7-Quart Pressure Cooker (Kitchen)
This is my first pressure cooker and boy am I filled with joy!
I don't know how I've lived without ever having one.
As a starter, I picked this anniversary version for its size and price.
I couldn't be happier. I cook often enough and usually use good quality pots and pans. As soon as I held this cooker in my hand, I could tell this was a high quality pot before functions as pressure cooker. As aforementioned, I'd never owned/used pressure cooker before so I couldn't really compare its quality with other brand, but the pot is VERY quiet, safe and high quality. I was skeptical about reduced cooking time as 20 minutes for brown rice and 7 minutes for risotto sounded just unreal and am glad to find out they were all true. Brown rice usually took more than 1 1/2 hour with rice cooker and didn't come out as good as cooked in pressure cooker and I am hooked to make variety of risotto and they all come out creamy and just al dente.
I have to get a larger pot now and most likely, I will stick to Kuhn Rikon since they are one of a few (?) that reaches the highest 15 psi (I really wanted to try WMF and it doesn't seem to reach 15 psi although I do not if this is true).

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Kitchen Tool, October 14, 2006
By
This Kuhn Rikon pressure is perfect for a small family and is size appropriate for about 3 people. I have owned 3 Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers for the past 16 years...3.5 liter, 5 liter, and the 8 liter. The pots look almost exactly as they did when they came out of the box 16 years ago, even though all of them have been used very heavily. I have not put them in the dishwasher, since Kuhn Rikon recommmends against doing so, but I have not even needed to replace a seal in all this time and the cookers clean easily and are virtually maintenance free. I believe the dishwasher is not recommended because of the seals and springs in the cover and also because of the black plastic handles. Everyone knows that repeatedy putting pots in the diswasher wears away the finish on plastic handles and makes them look old and dull before their time. This is a very small trade off for what these pots can do. They are meant to be lifetime kitchen tools, not tools that are used a few years and then discarded.

We have three Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers that we use almost every time we cook - this is the main cookware we use. It's fast, easy, and it saves energy because it takes less time to cook. And the food's great - I like eating at home better than any restaurant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very silent performer, March 10, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Anniversary 3.7-Quart Pressure Cooker (Kitchen)
This is my second buy of the same product, because I loved the first one so much. It works superbly and it is really easy to clean up (I hand wash the lid, but place the pot in the dishwasher), the size is perfect for our family of four. I was very impressed by how silent these things are, you must use a timer if you tend to forget things, like I do! The seller included a very handy cook book by the company, which is the best reference over other cook books that were recommended.

We purchased this item because my husband took an organic cooking class to learn how to make dog food. With the Kuhn RIkon pressure cooker, he can fix an entire week's supply of dog food in just 20 minutes. It's amazing and the dog just loves eating fresh food. No more dry crunchies for her!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic pressure cooker, February 12, 2008
This review is from: Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Anniversary 3.7-Quart Pressure Cooker (Kitchen)
We bought one of these in 2001 to take on a long VW-Camper based trip. Its small size made it perfect for that. We still wonder why more people don't use pressure cookers when camping. The trip's long over, but seven years later the cooker, which we use at least weekly, is going strong with the same seal! Great size for a couple of servings of brown rice or other small dish.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed - not suitable for regular use, February 9, 2007

We bought this cooker approx 3 years ago. My wife is from India and used it every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. It worked fine for approx 1 year but then would not come to pressure. Over the next year, like fools we replaced every part possible on the cooker. It would work reasonably well for a little while then fail again (often the failure to pressurize would be intermittent - very annoying). What is worse, there is only one source for the parts and they are extremely expensive - a tiny simple valve will set you back $40 - outrageous! Kuhn Rikon has set things up to gouge their customers on parts. We went back to using a pressure cooker from India which has the gravity valve on the top. It has functioned flawlessly for 20+ years of daily use and has never needed any parts, not even a lid gasket! Unfortunately, I don't believe this older type is even available in the US. Kuhn Rikon claims something like "the world's best pressure cooker" but that is pure false hype. If like some people you use this once a month it might last a reasonable period of time. But do not buy it if you plan to use it regularly.

5.0 out of 5 stars 7L Kuhn Rikon Pressure Cooker has been an absolute pleasure..., December 6, 2007

MereSanct (Huntington, NY USA) - See all my reviews
...from the moment I unpacked it, washed and reassembled it, everything about it was a delight: simple to use; elegant and lightweight; gasket easy to remove to clean and replace; lid closes without a struggle...and everything I've cooked as a vegan (grains, beans, fruits, vegs, soups, stews, puddings, etc.) has been delicious. Directions, btw, are easy to understand. The price, well, seems worth every penny. And see if you can find the magnetized trivets that work so well with stainless cookware!
