Product Description

A revolutionary new way to open jars. Innovative Swiss engineering tightens this tool's jaws around the cap, even as the jar is being opened, so the opener never slips. The Kuhn Rikon Gripper stays locked on lids and doesn't let go. Place The Gripper over jar lid, rotate turn-knob clockwise to tighten jaws onto lid. Tool locks in place. While holding the jar or bottle securely, grasp the handle and push counter-clockwise to open. Just loosen turn-know to release lid. The Gripper opens threaded caps and lids from 1-inch to 3.5-inches. Works on smooth-sided and grooved caps, too.

Big jars, little jars, this gadget opens them all. I keep it hanging near the stove and got rid of all the other jar openers I've gathered over the years (except the husband).

I was a little skeptical of this gadget, but my wrists are weak and I have trouble opening jars, so I thought I would try it. It works quite well and the materials out of which it is made are high enough quality that I don't foresee it breaking. I looked all over for something to help me open jars and this is it!

I have arthritis and also a demyelenating neurological disorder that causes pain and weakness in hands. I have had trouble for years opening jars and bottles. My husband (love him dearly) bought this for me and it has been a lifesaver. I have used this to open pickle jars, jam, soda bottles and even my water bottles. It's adjustable and uses little metal teeth (which I was opposed to previously) but if you secure it nicely on the lid it works spectacularly! No more frustrating nights home alone not being able to open things...this device has been great for me and I recommend it! Keep in mind, there is a crank handle to turn on the top of it to adjust the teeth to meet the diameter of the lid, so if your pain is too bad or you have loss of dexterity in your hands this may not work for you....but it's worth a try. I was a little scared of the twist knob on the top, but have not had any trouble with it.

I actually bought one of these for removing stuck optical filters from a camera. It works really well, and the teeth on the inside of the grippers (the ones that touch the lid, or the filter in my case) are really sharp. I very much recommend it. In case you care, the grippers are very close to the bottom of the tool, which means you can use two of them to uncrew two pieces that are stuck together.

I had a jar opener for years than consisted of sliding the jar lid into a v-shaped slot with "teeth". While sometimes it took a few tries or slipped out, It was beyond helpful until I finally broke it recently.

TJ Maxx often has great cooking gadgets cheaper than I can find them in department stores and I nabbed this kind there recently.

It's by the far the best jar opener I've used. with one turn it locks the lid into lace so a small twist of the wrist easily removes even really stubborn lids. And it locks onto any size lid...no adjusting or slipping.

Basically they took what I liked about the last jar opener and added a turning key to hold the jar lid so it unlocks with no slipping every time.

Raving fan here.

How well I remember opening jars for my mother years ago and thinking how puny she must be and how lucky to have such a marvel of a daughter, conquerer of all jar lids with just a twist of the wrist. So it was time for my comeuppance. "Time" being the critical word here. It gets to us all.

Well, how lucky to have found this handy jar opener, since there are moments when no one is around to open stubborn jars for me. One drawback, however, at least for me, is that at the critical moment the jar lid pops open, if the jar contains a goodly amount of liquid (such as those with pickles or olives), I manage to slop a bit of liquid out onto the counter. Don't know if this is a problem in the way I'm using the opener, but at least I'm getting the jar opened.

I hate to admit it but, as I grow older, I am losing strength in my hands. It was a real insult when I found I could not open a baby food jar for the little one I was caring for. I researched possible solutions and the Gripper Jar Opener by Kuhn Rikon got raving reviews from everyone - almost too good to be true, in fact. The amazing thing is--they are true. It opens all types of cans, jars and bottles that have been giving me a problem. So easy to use my god children beg to do it. I have never found anything it could not open! (More than I can say for me :).

Arthritis in the household. We bought the deluxe version, but it's the same - thought the handle would be more sturdy.
The product works pretty well. The 3 grippers are effective, if not tightened too little or too much. My main complaint is that even though you have good leverage on the lid with the tool, you still have to be able to hold the jar firmly, and this can be hard for some with a smaller jar or with smaller or weaker hands. You still have to exert considerable effort to open a very tight jar lid.
I may try the wedge shaped gripper that mounts under the cabinet so that I can grip the jar myself with TWO HANDS. We'll see.
Update: More than a year later we still use this tool frequently with no signs of failure. Comments above still apply.
