Because I really love "zoodles" (and carrot, parsnip, butternut squash, and sweet potato noodles), I ordered ALL the highly rated julienne peelers/slicers on Amazon to compare.

The Paderno World Cuisine Tri-Blade Vegetable Slicer Paderno World Cuisine A4982799 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable failed and was returned immediately. It mangled the zucchini, didn't make noodles but clunky, misshapen strings, and wobbled all over the place. The suction cup feet were a joke. The carrot I tried never did get sliced into julienne strips but stayed in thick bands. (Yes, I had the julienne blade in!) And after slicing, the teeth were bent in all directions!

I can only figure that the one a reviewer bought & raved over 3 years ago was made by a different supplier. This sort of thing happens all the time... companies change suppliers for one reason or another and the quality goes down. Possibly the "good" recent reviews are for machines which were made 3 years ago and just now found in an attic???

I also tested the Gefu Spirelli Spiral Cutter GEFU Spirelli Spiral Cutter. It was about as disapointing as the Paderno and was returned right away. Read some of the 1 or 2 star reviews to understand why it was bad. Really never worked at all! Very gimmick-y. Makes me wonder if anyone actually tests these things before manufacturing them!

A few months ago, I purchased an OXO julienne peeler OXO Good Grips Julienne Peeler and enjoyed using it for about 4 meals when I noticed the blades (teeth) which score the food before being sliced were all bent at different angles! The blade didn't seem all that sharp and dragging it over a carrot or parsnip was sort of difficult. However it had the widest teeth at 3.7mm making nice fat zoodles.

Next I compared the Kuhn Rikon Kuhn Rikon Julienne Peeler with Blade Protector, Stainless Steel Handle and the MIU France MIU France Stainless Steel Swiss Peeler, Julienne Blade peelers. They both worked very well for hand-held tools. (Remember to anchor the base of the veggie, as one other reviewer noted, with a carving or large fork so you don't nick the fingers holding the veggie.)

The MIU worked great, easy to use, but a relatively short handle which I found harder to hold on to. Comes with no protective cover for the blade, but I made one out of 3" of clear plastic 1/2" diameter tubing slit all along the long side. The teeth are 3.3mm apart which makes a thin spaghetti-type noodle, but thicker than angel-hair.

The Kuhn Rikon has a nice long handle which I liked, and a cover for the VERY sharp blade. The teeth were only 2.2mm apart which makes a sort of angel-hair noodles rather than a spaghetti-type. Nice for root veggies like carrots and parsnips, and sweet potatoes; they cook quicker.

I hope this helps anyone wading through the julienne peeler swamp!

I can't say enough good things about this julienne peeler. I first bought an Oxo julienne peeler, and it was really a piece of junk. I used it twice and saw that it was steadily going downhill from the first use (the little tines started bending right at the first usage when only julienning a carrot!), so I returned it right away. I had remembered seeing this much more expensive Kuhn Rikon julienne peeler with much better reviews and decided to give it a chance. Oh my goodness, the difference is amazing. It performs so much better, and I've now used it several times and the tines have not moved a bit out of position. I love the nice all-over stainless steel design. Very functional, beautiful, and looks like it will be very durable also. WELL WORTH the extra money! Oh, I almost forgot to mention, I also used it on zucchini and didn't have any trouble. I took a little bit lighter approach to the zucchini than I would with a carrot since it is a softer vegetable. The way I avoid hurting my fingers is to lay the vegetable on the cutting board and spear one end with a fork. Hold the vegetable by the fork and then julienne away!

I LOVE this tool!!! It helps me make the best shoe-string vegetables. The results are "professional". This is so very easy to use and clean, that one forgets one is "working" in the kitchen!!! I love this tool so much, I have purchased it as a gift for other cooking enthusiasts!

We've had our julienne peeler for about 3 months. It always has and still works perfectly. As other reviews have suggested, we always use a fork to hold carrots or other roots down while peeling. Construction seems sturdy, a high quality product in every way.

THIS IS A STURDY, EXCELLENT JULIENNE PEELER. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE OXO JULIENNE PEELER. I HAVE GONE THROUGH 8 OF THEM AS THE TEETH BEND VERY EASILY AND IF EVEN ONE TOOTH GETS DISTORTED, IT IS THE END OF THE USEFULNESS OF THE PEELER. THAT IS A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY. THIS ONE IS SO MUCH SUPERIOR. I LOVE IT.

Now, to be perfectly frank, I like this peeler. However, it does merit a little extra finger watching when using. I won't call myself an expert cook by any means, but I know my way around a kitchen.

Using this peeler I've managed to cut myself quite a few times. It's not for lack care - it just slips sometimes and the sharp, knife-like tines that make the julienne cuts very easily can slide and julienne your fingers or the area between thumb and forefinger.

Again, it's a good piece to have in the kitchen. It just merits a little care in its use.

I really like this little guy! My only problem is that it makes really thin (think angel hair pasta width) "noodles" but it's a julienne slicer, not a spiralizer, after all, so I can't complain. It's sharp as hell, so it'll really tear up a zucchini or carrot or what have you. I can dig it. There's a tip somewhere within the comments that says to put a fork in whatever veggie you're using while you're julienne peeling it so as not to maim yourself- this is a genius tip. Do it if you like having hands!

I julienne lots of carrots so this works great! Seems like there's a bit of a trick to using it w/o having a clump on bottom where all the julienne pieces stick. It depends on how you use it. I was able to mess around with it and get julienne strips no problem. Recommended purchase, am buying several more for family members.

I have enjoyed using this peeler to make strings of carrots for salads (for a different texture) and also love using it on zucchini which I then fry for a quick 2 minutes and call healthy spagetti!!

I ordered this having read the reviews and knowing that it made more of a shred rather than a julienne, that's why only four stars. It works really well and makes long strips of veggies which are thick enough for me for now.
