I love this mandolin! I bought two other "fancy" mandolins & returned them because they just didn't work very well, before discovering this one.

It's super sharp. It cuts everything beautifully -- perfect, thin slices every time.
It's got blades on the front and back so it cuts twice as fast as most other mandolins.
It's super easy to operate - no moving parts, no little parts to lose.
It takes up virtually no space. It slides in on its side in my kitchen drawer (blades facing the drawer sides for safety).
It's pretty.
It has rubberized feet that keep it from slipping on whatever surface you set it on while cutting.
It's sturdy.
It fits over any bowl or plate - no special container needed. I can slice right into the measuring cup, the mixing or salad bowl, or even right over the sandwich. Less to wash is a good thing.
It's easy to wash. Just rinse (or sometimes a quick swipe with a soapy brush), rap it on the side of the sink to remove the water, & put it back in the drawer.

Pros: The blade is very sharp. It slices in both directions so you're finished in half the time. The plastic portion is easy to hold and it's long enough that it can rest in the bowl or on the bowl nicely.

Cons: I had this mandolin once (in blue) and the plastic melted when it was left in contact with a pot of boiling water for a minute. I bought a replacement (in red) and this mandolin slices thinner than the other one - too thin in my opinion.

I've had this slicer for about 3 years now and it's still razor sharp after tons of use. Kuhn Rikon blades and knives really stand up to the test of time. It's easy to grab out of the drawer and slice right into the dish for cooking. My only wish is that I had one that sliced a little bit thicker for things like potatoes and squash, where you don't want paper-thin slices.

Fair warning, I've cut myself on this when I got distracted, and so have house guests. When they warn you about the finger guard, heed their warnings or buy a kevlar glove!

Is there anyone out there who doesn't love all the great gagets that Kuhn Rikon puts out there? I have a kitchen full of them! I had to have a large professional mandoline when I did restaurant cooking and I bought a very expensive imported model that I hated everytime I used it, it currently resides in the bottom drawer of the stove. I saw this mandoline while walking through kitchen store and picked it up, the cost was one tenth of my big pro mandoline and this little Kuhn Rikon does a better job faster than the big expensive one does. The blade cuts both on the forward and backward slide so you get twice the cut for each stroke, cuts your work time in half. I love the paper thin cuts it does, try slicing some potatoes and wrapping them around fish or chicken breasts that have been seasoned well and then saute them until the potatoes are crisp and browned and the fish or chicken is done and you have a restaurant quality dinner that will impress your guests everytime. I also purchased the shredding model of this mandoline and that one too works great. Like I said I have lots of this companies products and love every one of them, they are really designed to help you cook better and they hold up to lots of use.

I bought this to make sweet potato oven-baked fries and other such items, trouble is, it slices paper-thin and unevenly, one side of each slice is always down to nothing before slicing completely through. It may be due to the fact that it slices both directions as you move item and may not have enough 'slide-room' on the surface. I think I should probably have bought the same brand but in one-direction blade. The blade is very sharp and I hope it stays that way for a long time. Overall, for the price this is probably better than you could get in a different brand. Professional mandolines cost at least $50 and up minimum and closer to $100 for a very good one.

I am not having much success with the Kuhn Quick Slice--maybe it just takes practice. The slices are uneven and the thingy that is suppose to hold the item in place doesn't do the job. Also I am having difficulty keeping the mandoline steady. I have a real cheap mandoline and find that I like it much better. On the positive side, it is easy to clean and store.

This is really handy. I'm much more likely to pull this out of the drawer to use than I am to haul out my big mandoline. With that said, I have to say that this slices too thinly for the most part. I tried to do peppers for fajitas and they were paper thin. On the other hand, the onions were perfect. This will come in handy for some things, but bear in mind that if you want a little more body to your vegetables, this might not be the tool to use.
