A solid choice, October 9, 2008
This review is from: Kuhn Rikon Vase Seasoning Grinder, Stainless (Kitchen)
Generally speaking, this grinder is great and I do recommend it. It does have some downsides though:
-- Grinding about two tablespoons worth of mixed seasonings for a recipe was murderous to my arms and took upwards of twenty minutes, even though the grinder was on its coarsest setting. It's best suited to smaller amounts of seasonings (or softer ones; it makes quick work of peppercorn grinding, for example).
-- It makes a slightly annoying wheezy sound as you grind.
-- It's big! I assumed it would be smaller, which of course was my mistake, but nonetheless I wouldn't be overly enthusiastic to put it on my table at dinnertime. It looks almost awkward at this size.
-- Another gripe I have that isn't its fault: The clear parts are plastic. Not a big fan of plastic... I thought it was glass.
All in all, this grinder didn't quite live up to expectations, but it does the job effectively.

Exceptional grinder, November 5, 2009

I purchased this grinder for very damp grey sea salt. Not only does it keep the salt damp, it easily grinds it into a very usable state for cooking or for the table. Great purchase!

Dissapointed in the construction, September 1, 2008
This review is from: Kuhn Rikon Vase Seasoning Grinder, Stainless (Kitchen)
This was our second grinder like this. We have been using one exactly like it for pepper for over a year with great results. Based on that we decided to get one for salt as well. It looked fine, but the threads in the plastic adjustment knob were stripped out -- the first time I used it to gind salt for a dish the knob came off and the salt poured out onto my food. My husband was able to repair it by embedding a metal nut in the knob. I suppose we just happened to get a bad one. The first one works just fine.
