Book Description

People are predictable. That's what makes them easy to kill.

Out of misguided loyalty, police officer Prosper Snow is goaded into helping his friends perform a copycat killing, but when the real killer comes after him, it's not only his life on the line, but his family's too. Now if he goes to his colleagues for help, he risks being arrested for murder. If he doesn't, he risks being killed.

"Shaun Jeffrey hits one out of the park with this creepy, character-driven thriller that starts with a jolt, stays in the fast lane, and plunges into the darkest territory of the human mind."
--Jonathan Maberry, author of PATIENT ZERO

"Part mystery, part police procedural, part horror story, it's one thrilling ride."
--Nate Kenyon, author of THE REACH and THE BONE FACTORY
------------------------
The Kult has been filmed and is currently in post production.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The Kult is a creeping stalk through a shadowy labyrinth of thrills and terror. Shaun Jeffrey delivers a pulse-pounding novel of superb skill and unequivocal horror." --Jon F. Merz author of PARALLAX and the Lawson Vampire novels.

The tension in this story is beyond anything I've read before, really intense and edge-of-your seat reading with the plot seeming to turn with every page. -- Book Chick City

This book is obviously not for the faint of heart, but for those who love a good mystery horror thriller, definitely partake in the horrific awesomeness that is The Kult. -- Smash Attack Reads

This book is as good as, and in some cases much better than, other successful mainstream crime thrillers out there. -- BookLore

From the Author

The Kult is soon to be released as a film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrifying read, fantastic mystery October 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
"Look out, look out, there's a monster about." I absolutely loved this quote. It's eerie, its freaky, and its true!

And a quote I'm totally ripping off from a friend, but fits this book so perfectly: "The scariest monsters have human faces".

This book was scary. The beginning was pure horror. 10% into the book, and I was afraid to leave the house. At one point near the beginning, I almost put the book down saying "no more". But I couldn't. I had to read more, I had to find out what happens!

Vengeance, Retribution, Bait... There are a lot of reasons to kill. Detective Prosper Snow (coolest name ever, by the way) is now on a case to find The Oracle. No one is safe from this serial killer. And before too long, it seems the Oracle has his sights set on Prosper Snow.

I really enjoyed this book. It had some very strong elements of horror. In fact, I wouldn't recommend it for the very faint of heart or easily offended - unless you can skip over some parts. In which case, you should get it, because the rest of the book is definitely worth withstanding some very scary parts.

While taking notes for this book, I wrote down "I don't immediately like Prosper. He seems like he has a dangerous secret". But my opinion of the man changed drastically over the course of the story. Prosper snow takes you on his journey with him, and you feel it all. Stress, regret, fear, love, some more fear, a dash of paranoia, and so on and so forth.

I instantly felt like I connected with the victims. That only made it that much more difficult when they actually became the victims. You feel that bit of unease you get when you know something is just "off" and then when the Oracle gets them, you are absolutely horrified and you can feel every bit of their fear.

When Prosper Snow goes on the hunt, possibly putting everyone he knows and loves in danger you find yourself looking around the corners, trying to see something he hasn't seen yet. The actual identity of the villain surprised me, which is always a fantastic thing in a story. That little element of surprise is what keeps you turning page after page.

All of the characters are well written around a story that is well written. You get a history on everyone, and really feel like you get to know them. I felt it was fast paced, and I finished it in just a couple days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Violence and Suspense May 11, 2013
By Ed
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
First, this is a violent book. I don't know who reads the description, see the cover and doesn't expect a bit of hostility to come forward. It's violent...like Patrick Bateman violence, which I think works in this book.

The violence lessens as we are taken into the "who is it" realm. The detective, Prosper Snow is an interesting character. Not really a Will Grham, or an Alex Cross, but a bit more authentic. Like most detectives from these types of books, we start of not liking Snow much, but over the course of the book we find more to like.

The Oracle is a great villain, and much like Hannibal Lecter, is the reason we should see a big screen version of this book. The author gets everything right about the creepy factor of The Oracle.

If you like the genre, you'll love this book. If you have a distaste for violence, it might not be your cup of tea.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read! March 31, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a very good read if you're into crime thrillers. I liked how Very detailed and highly descriptive the author was and also how he was able to connect you with the main characters through great storytelling. Be warned that it is a bit gory as the author does go to great detail in painting cringeworthy scenes.
