4.0 out of 5 stars Small informative book on Kundalini, July 4, 2011
This review is from: Kundalini Secret of Life (Paperback)
I came across this small book at a used bookstore. Despite its small size it gives quite a bit of detail and information about kundalini and kundalini awakening, which is "the true beginning of the spiritual journey." The book relates similar descriptions of kundalini from different cultures to show this is a universal force recognized cross culturally. While kundalini awakening can happen in different ways such intense devotion to God, repetition of a mantra, yogic exercises, and spontaneous opening the book advocates Shaktipat (transference of Shakti or supreme energy from a Guru) as the "easiest and best" method since the Guru can guide the disciple to "experience his identity with God." The book cautions that if kundalini is not awakened by a perfected Guru who can guide the disciple all the way to attainment the kundalini may sleep again, but doesn't tell the reader how to recognize a perfected Guru. And it is said if kundalini is not awakened in the proper manner anything could happen and this may account for some fears that kundalini awakening can lead to madness or diseases. The book continues with descriptions of what happens as kundalini rises from the base of the spine upward through the chakras and purifies the body. The last section is a description of attainment. "You see the world as supremely blissful light, undifferentiated from yourself, and you remain unshakable in this awareness. This is the state of liberation, the state of perfection." There is a glossary, but no table of contents or index. Of course the book is small enough that perhaps these are not that necessary. I thought the book might be out of print, but there appears to be a newer edition available.
