5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Kundalini Yoga, February 9, 2010
This review is from: Kundalini Yoga (Paperback)
I know there is a lot of stuff out there about kundalini so it is very easy to get confused by all the different disinformation.

This book is the real deal unlike many teachers and books out there with unwary confused followers.
Master Sivananda doesn't small talk or mince words but gets right to the point. You will learn some valuable tools for kundalini, meditation, pranayama and yoga in this very perfect book.

AGLA (Acción Gnóstica Libertadora de Amerindia, "Liberating Gnostic Action of Amerindia") was a group that was founded that included Samael Aun Weor and Sivananda. Between the two of them you can gather the highest teaching available for Kundalini.

The Teachings here are very pure and legitimate and so are very hard to hear with an ego..

This review is from: Kundalini Yoga (Paperback)
This is an old book but it explains a lot. It reads like a discourse on the yoga sutras by Patanjali.

Pros: It explained a lot more than my teacher did in yoga teacher training. It explains well the different types of yoga as well as the eight "arms" of yoga, and the chakras. It includes a few asanas and some photos of asanas. It suggests a proper sattvic diet and also information on creating a yogic lifestyle. There are also some specific pranayama exercises.

Cons: He uses a lot, I mean a lot, of Sanskrit terms in his writing. Most are in the glossary in the back, some are not. If you are an absolute beginner to yogic philosophy you may find it tough going on this account. If you have some background you will appreciate all the straight forward information. I bought this book because I wanted to know more about Kundalini specifically, and funny, but that's the one thing it seems sort of weak on. This book reads more as an overview on YOGA than it does a book on KUNDALINI. Swami Sivananda does not even mention Yogi Bhajan who seems to be the main guy to bring kundalini style yoga to the US. If you are used to the Yogi Bhajan style ("may the long time sun" etc.) you may be surprised that Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo was not mentioned in this book
