5.0 out of 5 stars Still A Great Show, Even After 30 Years
I remember watching this show religiously when I was a kid and thinking it was the best thing on TV. The philosophy of life exemplified by the character Kwai Chang Caine (David Carradine) had a real and lasting impact on me. Watching the same episodes all over again 30 years down the road, I find that they have not lost their original power. I would recommend watching...

3.0 out of 5 stars 1st Season was Great - 2nd Season was a catastrophy!
The first season was simply magnificent. Filled with enlightened wisdom, love and beautiful messages. Yet, I found the second season painfully strained at what appeared to be appeasment of the fickle audience, which compromised the integrity of the show as a whole. In this season's "The Hoot," Caine makes a clown out of himself to motivate a disobedient child to do what...

5.0 out of 5 stars Still A Great Show, Even After 30 Years, January 27, 2005
This review is from: Kung Fu - The Complete First and Second Seasons (DVD)
I remember watching this show religiously when I was a kid and thinking it was the best thing on TV. The philosophy of life exemplified by the character Kwai Chang Caine (David Carradine) had a real and lasting impact on me. Watching the same episodes all over again 30 years down the road, I find that they have not lost their original power. I would recommend watching this show with your children. If everyone learned to behave more like Kwai Chang Caine, the world would be a better place indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best TV shows ever made, June 17, 2005
This review is from: Kung Fu - The Complete First and Second Seasons (DVD)
This was the series that intruduced martial arts and Eastern philosophy to a whole generation. Although Caine (David Carradine) uses martial arts in the show, Kung-Fu was never a martial arts show. Caine, if anything, is a Christ-like figure; he's gentle and forgiving and has a deep insight into the human condition. The show is extremely character and story driven with a touch of action, which makes for great entertainment that any age viewer can enjoy and understand on different levels.

There has been much discussion concerning the fact that Bruce Lee was in fact one of the original creators of the show and that it was actually designed to be a vehicle for him. How much of that is true and how much of the story is Hollywood myth is debatable and frankly unimportant...however, what is true is that Bruce had a completely different aura about him. His Caine would have been completely different and in my humble opinion, the show would have become a martial arts series and therefore not nearly as "important" or deep. Carradine brought a real softness to the character that made the show what it was.

If you want to watch good TV that not only entertains but teaches, buy all three seasons of Kung-Fu, you won't be dissappointed.

After a little confusion on the shipment date they instantly responded to my email and solved the problem, got the order to my doorstep in just a few days, making it arrive earlier than expected and in time for Father's Day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soul Food for the Hungry, June 20, 2005
This review is from: Kung Fu - The Complete First and Second Seasons (DVD)
This is one of the rare TV series that touches the viewer on every level. It's gentle no- greed, non violence philosophy is brilliantly blended with good action story lines and excellent direction. The music, photography, and wonderful flash-backs to philosophical moments in the Shaolin Temple all combine to treat the viewer with visions of a way of life we seem to have forgotten in this present world.

It is also timeless, as all true philosophy is - as relevant now as it was 30 years ago. The only other series I can remember that invoked the same sense of spiritual well being was 'Monkey' - the Japanese TV series, not the animated version. Perhaps one day that series will become available on DVD as well.

But for now we are blessed with Kung Fu - The Complete First and Second Seasons and what joy! The Complete Third Season is available later in the year.

Buy it and enjoy - over and over again. You will not be disappointed.

This series is better than I remember, since I am now an adult. It also helps that there are no commercials to interrupt.

There are some classic tv series and this is one of them.
The blending of east and west is well done. It is unfortunate
that this is not still on or a continued series with David
Carradine.
We have watched it nightly while eating dinner.

5.0 out of 5 stars It NEVER ceases to amaze me, March 25, 2005

This series, and something as innocent as the "Our Gang/Little Rascals" series are American popular cultural TREASURES! It never ceases to amaze me how some people "go out of their way" to look for racism. These people keep agitating & will never let things die down, and put things behind us.

In this case, and the Little Rascals series, some reviewers are looking for a platform & an audience to preach to.

Buy this series (and the Little Rascals for your elementary schoold kids) YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!
