Editorial Reviews

When we last saw Kwai Chang Caine, in Kung Fu: the Movie, he was united with the son he never knew he had in the turn-of-the-century Wild West. Now, the son of that son, also named Kwai Chang Caine (David Carradine), must emerge from seclusion to save the son he thought lost. Like his legendary namesake, this Caine is also a warrior monk, operating a Shaolin temple in Northern California. After an evil priest, Tan (Ernest Abuba), destroys the temple, Caine and his young son, Peter (Nathaniel Moreau) each believe the other has perished. The two embark on very different paths -- Caine wanders the Earth, while Peter (Chris Potter) is a cop. When fate brings the two together, they work to overcome their differing philosophies to battle Tan, and then to help the innocent and bring justice to the new Wild West -- 90s urban America. Please note the series pilot movie is presented here in its international release version, and contains brief nudity.

I would watch the reruns on TNT over and over until they stopped airing them and I'm looking forward to giving these DVDs just as much use!

I have literally waited nearly twenty years for this show to come out legitimately on DVD, now that I've gotten to watch it again, the show is incredibly cheesy with some of its stories and there's a lot of violence just for the sake of violence, stuff I didn't notice as much as a kid, but one thing that hasn't changed and that makes the show so compelling and immensely watchable even today, is the chemistry between the two lead actors. They don't look like father and son, but as a viewer you wouldn't believe it for how well they play off each other and compliment each other on the screen. The human drama is so front and center, and it's a wonderful journey watching a father and son who have been separated for fifteen years get to know each other again and make peace with the past. It's what has kept my mind on this show for two decades, since it premiered back in 1993. I can't see how anyone can be disappointed in this show with two such charismatic actors and characters, watch it for the family drama and enjoy all the Kung-Fu moves, you'll love it.

Heck Yeah! I've only been waiting for years for this to come out for years!! Yeah, some people might think some of the fantasy elements are corny and a little over the top at times, but hey, I love the whole father/son bonding that develops between the Caines throughout the series. Then of course who could forget the back up cast of interesting characters...Kermit, Lo Si, Mary Margret. I would watch the reruns on TNT over and over until they stopped airing them and I'm looking forward to giving these DVDs just as much use! I'm ready to grab a grasshopper drink and kick back and introduce my boys to the Caine family.

I used to watch this back to back with Time trax which was just released itself a few months back.Warner did a fantastic job with the remastering.Other than that the only real extra is the international version of the pilot.Although i could only discern 2 differences from the broadcast pilot.A different title (Kung fu a legend reborn) and some topless dancers in the club scenes.A commentary or 2 from Chris Potter would have been nice. Also would have been nice had they included the humorous gag reel.I know one exists.I've seen it on youtube.Either way it's great just to finally Enjoy this show on DVD.Looking forward to season 2.According to Warner archive their already working on it.

I can't tell you how long I have been waiting for this series to come out on DVD! I loved watching this show when I was younger and have missed seeing the episodes. When I saw the first season had been released I immediately purchased it and waited anxiously for its arrival. This show is just as wonderful as I remembered. Kaine and Peter's relationship has always been my favorite part of the series and I loved finally getting to watch it unfold again. I sincerely hope this means that they will be releasing the rest of this series at some point. It will be on my much purchase list!
