3.0 out of 5 stars It's just okay June 16, 2011
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
This game is just okay, but you are better off renting it or waiting till the price drops to below $20. It's pretty repeatitive, and the cut scenes are too numerous and go on for too long. The graphics are mediocre, and most of the time the overhead block move doesn't register when you put your arms up. I wouldn't rush out to buy it.

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I was a big fan of the movie Kung Fu Panda 2. The storyline was great, the characters were endearing, the animation was stunning, and the action was nonstop fun.

Sadly, Kung Fu Panda 2 for Kinect seems to suffer from what plagues many movie tie-in games. The game is supposed to augment the movie experience, but it does the opposite. Even with Jack Black providing the voice for the video game, the Xbox Po seems a poor shadow of his big screen counterpart. I didn't expect the detail of the movie, but this didn't even seem close.

The storyline starts out promising-it begins where the movie left off and describes how some of Shen's followers are still in the city and need to be eradicated. But that's pretty much where the story stars and ends. The rest of the game, you're just going from area to area fighting enemies, with really no additional plot.

You pass your way through familiar environments in the movie: Gongmen City, the Undercity, the Bamboo Forest, The Desert, and Shantu Palace, but it's really the same routine in each area-fight what seem to be the same enemies over and over again, and maybe play a mini-game or two here and there.

Where the game does shine-mostly-is in its use of the Kinect for motion detection. There's just something about actually punching and kicking that beats mashing buttons on a controller. Unlike similar Wii games of the past, this one is smart enough to detect when you punch with your left and right hands, when you kick with your left and right feet, when you block with your left and right arms, and when you duck and dodge. The moves are pretty simple; this is, after all, a kid's game. But yes, as I played through the game I worked up a sweat and an elevated heartrate.

Unfortunately, combat is a bit stilted.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 7 year old loves it May 4, 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
From reading negative reviews, I was hesitant to buy this game for the kinect. My son kept begging me to get it, so when I found a good price on a used one I bought it. It had an update to download when we first put the disc in. The update took about a minute and that was it. I had read where a lot of people were complaining about the sensor not picking up jumps, kicks, etc. We didn't experience any glitches or hang-ups of any kind throughout the game. It registered my son's actions really well. I'm not sure if the update was a fix to all the problems, but we didn't experience any sensor issues whatsoever. For myself, this game would have been repetitive and not much fun, but for my 7 year old it was great. He enjoyed "doing karate" on the bad guys, and got quite a work-out with all the jumping, kicking, and so on. I wanted to write this review because the game did work so well for us and my son loves it. I don't think I would have paid full-price for it, but for around $20 it's worth the money (I got it used for I think around $16). One reason I love the kinect games so much is because they get my little gamer up and moving. This one gives a great workout and lots of fun at the same time. I recommend it for kids probably around 6-10 years old (if older than that, I think they might get bored with it a little quickly).. and as long as you're not paying above $20, it's a deal.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very cheap game June 13, 2011
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
Just an advice for anyone who wants to get this ugly, low quality, cheap production of game not to buy it never ever. It was clear there was no serious game development to make this game fun and engaging, plus the kinect sensation wasn't accurate even no helpful advices how to deal with character like other kinect games. So save your money for worthy game.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shouldn't have been a Kinect game January 2, 2012
By A Texan
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
My kids big gift for Christmas this year was an Xbox 360 with Kinect. In addition, from family and friends, they got several games, including several that use the Kinect sensor. Most all of the games they received work well and they've picked up on using the Kinect gestures very quickly.

That said, I cannot recommend this game as it does not work well at all with the Kinect sensor. Both my 6 year old and 10 year old got repeatedly frustrated with the game not responding to their gestures. I watched both of them play to see if there was something they were missing.

Nope! They were performing as the game intended, but the game simply wasn't reading their inputs consistently. If we hadn't already had so much success with other Kinect games, I would wonder if there was an issue with my console or sensor. But I'm confident it's this game that is flawed.

I've pulled it out of the game library and put it away so my kids can't get to it. Over coming the challenges of a new game and learning to play it well is something I can support. Dealing with a bad interface that deals nothing but inconsistency and frustration is something my family doesn't need to waste its time with.

Do not get your family this game!

1.0 out of 5 stars Is this a game?
Is this an interactive game or just a movie where you sometimes direct the action? Very boring, too much sitting around and watching.
