Editorial Reviews

In this very unusual DVD instructor Adam Hus gives the particular flavor of each style of Kung Fu by demonstrating such diverse methods as Longfist, Lost Track, 7 Star Mantis, the rare 6 Harmony Mantis, Ba Ji, Pi Qua and Xing Yi. See the differences between true Kung Fu styles.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Heart of Kung Fu, January 31, 2012
This review is from: Kung Fu Usage 7 Styles (DVD)
I admit it, I'm an Adam Hsu fan. You can tell from the rest of my reviews. He's not for the beginner. A scholar of Chinese literature and one of the top students of one of the best Kung Fu men to move to Taiwan, Adam is famous for his books, essays, reviews, teaching and critical thinking. In this DVD he is trying to make a point: Kung Fu has a particular approach to fighting which cannot be said to be ineffective because almost no one is doing it! He takes seven styles of Kung Fu including Praying Mantis, Baji, Tan Tui, Xing Yi, etc. and shows how each one would deal with an attack. He doesn't pick easy and featureless responses but representative techniques that you will need to watch over and over to catch the flavor. The only problem with Adam's work is that if you are in the "kick ass" camp or a fan of simplified movie Kung Fu, most of it will be lost on you. But if you want to taste the orginal dish, sample this.
