a very fun and sweet series, December 31, 2009
This review is from: Kurashina Sensei's Passion Volume 1 (Yaoi) (Paperback)
I am so very glad that they are finally releasing this series! Kurashina Sensei's Passion starts out on the shounen ai side, but it's an incredibly amusing, at times touching book filled with great characters (almost all of them are stand-outs), fun plots and lovely artwork (always great to see how much expression a cat can convey!). You have the not-so original 'grumpy' lead character who's really a softy at heart, but Kurashina has his moments of revenge and it's always great to see what new antics he gets dragged into by the student council - which of course contains some very handsome young men as potential romantic partners.

A cute, light read, October 14, 2010
This review is from: Kurashina Sensei's Passion Volume 1 (Yaoi) (Paperback)
Reiji Kurashina has returned to his high school as a teacher, but his first day ends up in chaos when he falls into the hands of the crazy boys of the Events Organization Committee. Before he knows it, Kurashina is the advisor to the committee, caught up in all their work and their nutty schemes. Shiro's work is as touching as her previous releases, but also funny at the same time. Though student-teacher pairings have their own level of suspension of disbelief required (even in a yaoi), Shino's story has an innocent quality that allows the reader to focus on the romance, not the age differences. There are a lot of characters in this story--its only real weakness--but they are each interesting in their own way. The boys in the Events Organization Committee include the strong, silent leader Asano, the fiery and flirtatious second-in-command Akiyama, the passive-aggressive Sakamoto, and the adorable freshmen Murosawa and Kimura, each of them different enough to stand out, but cute enough to capture readers' hearts. Though obviously in a harem story such as this one, everyone is likely to get paired off, it is not immediately evident who is going to end up with whom. By the end of the first volume, things are clearer so that the second volume can begin to set up complications and by then readers are caught and willing to follow the tale to its end.
Shino draws wide, round faces with highly detailed eyes and her characters manage to look both intelligent and innocent at the same time. It might remind readers of how Taishi Zaou draws her characters, though both artists have a distinct style. One small problem is that while Shino is skilled at human proportions, she is not as successful with feline ones, so Kurashina's cat Matsumoto looks like he has rabbit back legs. He also must be part Maine Coon cat, because he is enormous! But, in keeping with the rest of the tale, he is also pretty darn adorable and he gives Shino lots of opportunities to pose her bishonen with a kitty cat. If you are looking for a cute, light read and you don't mind that Shino isn't going to toss in any smut (though there is a very sweet kiss at the end of volume one and some light angsty throughout), then Kurashina Sensei's Passion could be just the read you're looking for.

Lively, lighthearted and enjoyable. 4.5 stars, November 27, 2009
This review is from: Kurashina Sensei's Passion Volume 1 (Yaoi) (Paperback)
Funny, light hearted, a very lively volume one with a cast of vivid characters. All pretty boys of course plus a transvestite. Cute story as a teacher newbie finds himself immersed in the students' lives in his old school. Certainly not dull at all even if there is no BL until the kiss at the end. Let's hope the romance starts in Vol 2. Great and expressive artwork.
