Kurohime volume 1 is the debut collection of a brand-new shonen (intended especially for boys and action-fans) manga by Japanese creator Masanori Ookamigumi Katakura. In his own words, Katakura has crammed Kurohime cover to cover with everything he loves, and it's all here: sexy women, blazing guns, gigantic summoned monsters, villains, heroes, and everything in between. Kurohime herself is a master of "witch bullets" with the power to call slavering fantastic beasts; her arrogance led her to confront the gods themselves, and they punished her with a curse that traps her in a near-powerless preteen body! Only by experiencing love can she break the curse - but love is a foreign emotion to the self-centered Kurohime. But when she crosses paths with a teenaged gunslinger she once rescued from death and inspired to pursue justice, her fleeting feelings of affection have the power to overcome the curse, if only momentarily! An episodic adventure blending fantasy and wild west themes, with a clean, smooth art style and excitement leaping off every page.

I have to say, I was unimpress at the beginning of the managa release. but if you are patient and read the entire first arc, it will touch your heart. If you like the main charaters, stick it out and wait for real story to begin.

I'll actually agree with Dragonhunter that this is hardly a manga I'd recommend to your average otaku. It really *does* seem that the artist's best drawings are for the overly-endowed dragonlady Kurohime. But I'm a sucker for her god-cursed form, the cute bratty Himeko, who appears when Kurohime gets a little too full of herself, so to speak, which, considering her monumental ego, happens quite often. The third main character is Zero, your generic bland but good-with-a-gun male, who believes that Kurohime is indeed a good woman. The interaction between the two, which includes a fun dose of SD's, is what keeps me picking up this book (which is $2 below the cost of your average manga).

Kurohime is no Ulysses, but it's a rollicking pseudo-western for otaku who realize that sometimes manga is just entertainment. Really well-endowed entertainment.

When I read a preview of the manga in Shonen Jump I thought I'd give it a try. The story line isn't that good. The graphics are pretty good, but the author is constantly making suggestive stances and posters with the adult version of Kurohime. All together unimpressive and disapointing. I wouldn't recoment it for anyone under the age of seventeen.

The art is good, sharp and clean, the action is good too and Kurohime is sexy. This manga takes from a lot of other mangas' Trigun, Because I'm the Goddess and others like it. But I liked it all the same.
