5.0 out of 5 stars Very good watch, May 14, 2011

This review is from: Kurokami: The Animation Volume 2 [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Rather than writing a review for every disc, I will write a general summarization that applies to the whole series.

To start, the story is very entertaining and will give you something to think about. Just do not expect to be overblown by a never-before seen story. Kurokami has some of the elements seen in other super natural/adventure series: strong characters, a plot that takes the story into an epic conclusion, and some comedic elements for good measure. I could give more details about the story but do not want to spoil it. Rest assured that it will keep you engaged, and you will come to appreciate its characters.

The other major aspect I want to cover is the quality of this series. Let me start by saying that Kurokami looks gorgeous. I bought the Blu-ray version, and it looks amazing. Something very attractive to me is the old-school look of the animation. As many of you know, Sunrise has been behind classics like Cowboy Bebop and the Gundam series. Sunrise does not disappoint and throws the sink into Kurokami. This series is beautiful to look at and has a feeling of nostalgia despite being a 2009 Anime.

Unlike the DVD version, the Blu-ray is only dubbed. Many Anime fans prefer the original Japanese dialogue. However, the dubbing for Kurokami is top notch, especially Laura Bailey, who in my opinion, did a hell of a job. Overall, Kurokami: The Animation is an excellent and well done series. The only thing I can complain is that I would like for this series to be 3 episodes longer. The series is very complete and more episodes would enhance and further strenght an already enjoyable experience. If you like short series (it is only 22 episodes, 2 recap episodes and an extra random episode) with a warming and hopeful story and great characters, this series is for you. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Terra Guardians Bonds, October 30, 2010
This review is from: Kurokami: The Animation Volume 2 [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Following on from the spectacular Volume 1 Blu Ray.

Contains: Episodes 5 - 8
Language: English dub only
Blu Ray Region: A

Kurokami likes to show the bonds between Terra Guardians, the effect of battle on the characters and the effect of friendship and trying your best. i.e the detirmination to win.

Keita and Kuro as you know have recently formed a pact and are coming to grips with their situation and the new powers that have been made available to them.

Steiner along with Excel are drawn into a battle with Kuro and Keita which feels more like a teacher instructing their students. Foolishly attacking Steiner, Kuro must step forward to defend Keita.

I really enjoyed Episode 6 on this volume as it throws a tragic story of Terra Guardian and her contractee who happen to be in the same situation as Kuro and Keita, although the battle between them gets heated, some twists and turns and revelations really make you feel sorry for the woman Kuro battles.

This is where, in my eyes Kurokami excels. It sometimes introduces some bad guys that aren't really entirely bad. They're doing something for the sake of someone who means the world to them, you know love. If you could help someone live another day, another week, you'd do something questionable wouldn't you?

Resolved to finding out answers about his mother. Keita along with Kuro and his childhood friend travel to Okinawa to see Keitas Grandpa.

Overall this volume was hard hitting and fun.
The English dub is good too.
Lots of battles and emotion.
