2.0 out of 5 stars I Prefer George Morris
I bought this book at the same time as "Hunter Seat Equitation" by George Morris. I much prefered Morris' style of presenting information and have been able to incorporate pieces of it much faster. Kursinski's approach to this book, essentially telling the reader to tell his or her instructor what to do, did not work well with me. Try telling a "lead mare" what to do in...

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any serious equine library., September 3, 1999
This review is from: Anne Kursinski's Riding and Jumping Clinic: A Step-by-Step Course for Winning in the Hunter and Jumper Rings (Hardcover)
Anne Kursinski has not only achieved international success as a U.S. Equestrian Team member, but has also established herself as a highly sought after instructor, clinician and now author. I've always admired her exquisite riding style, and she now shares her wisdom and systematic program with readers/riders. Her explanations are straightforward and concise with a true concern for both horse and rider. Beyond her abilities as a world class equestrian, Ms. Kursinski's level of horsemanship is unsurpassed as evidenced by her explanation/demonstration/review of each exercise she recommends, whether it is basic flat work or negotiating a cross-country course. Her flat work exercises provide such a solid foundation that can be used for any riding discipline. I am a nationally certified riding instructor who has also trained with some great instructors, and I've learned more from this book than from any other trainer I've worked with in several years. This book should be considered a must not just for competitive riders, but for anyone who truly wants to improve their riding and communication skills with their horse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear photos, descriptive text...a great resource!, October 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Anne Kursinski's Riding and Jumping Clinic: A Step-by-Step Course for Winning in the Hunter and Jumper Rings (Hardcover)
I refer to this book often as I progress with training. It's great to see why the rudimentary exercises I'm working on now as a beginner become so crucial down the line. The photos detail every move and show the perfect form of an excellent rider. The author communicates the important stuff without a lot of preachiness often found in books by people at the top of their game. It's carefully laid out and easy to follow...a great addition to any serious rider's library (even novices!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost like having Anne Kursinski as your instructor, December 29, 1999
This review is from: Anne Kursinski's Riding and Jumping Clinic: A Step-by-Step Course for Winning in the Hunter and Jumper Rings (Hardcover)
This book helped me a lot with my riding style and the communication with my horses. I feel I have improved a lot and rereading it is helping me even more. The way it is written is very clear because it is just like having separate lessons. It encourages you to try to improve each area at a time, what makes it very manageable and helps you to focus on doing things well. I HIGHLY recommend this book to show jumpers, it is the BEST show jumping book I have. I feel Anne Kursinki has taught me a lot this past few months!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very thorough instruction and wonderful pictures., November 25, 1998

This review is from: Anne Kursinski's Riding and Jumping Clinic: A Step-by-Step Course for Winning in the Hunter and Jumper Rings (Hardcover)
I found this book to be one of the best step-by-step books. I have been able to incorporate most of Anne's instrutions and details into my horses' training programs. The exercises are straight forward and easy to follow, more over, they are fun to do. I have gained a better "feel" for my horses and believe I am a better rider because of this book. I reccommend it to anyone who wants a sharper competetive edge and to those who want to know their horses better. It is a must for anyone rides primarily at home because it helps structure your horse's training and makes the rides more productive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource, January 1, 2002

This review is from: Anne Kursinski's Riding and Jumping Clinic: A Step-by-Step Course for Winning in the Hunter and Jumper Rings (Hardcover)
This book is a great resource for any serious rider who wants to improve their skills. I was able to not only use Anne's theories in my own riding but also apply them to my students. She explains everything in a very straight forward manner with lots of illustrations for the many exercises she gives. Since I live in an area where the closest jumper trainer is almost 2 hours away, this was a great way to get new ideas to tackle problems and master the basics. Highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to better themselves as a rider.

2.0 out of 5 stars I Prefer George Morris, February 24, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Anne Kursinski's Riding and Jumping Clinic: A Step-by-Step Course for Winning in the Hunter and Jumper Rings (Hardcover)
Try telling a "lead mare" what to do in her own barn! From personal experience telling your trainer that a book determined your training program is not a bright thing to do. Maybe a self-taught rider would have more luck with this book than a person in riding lessons.

Anne Kursinski presents her methods simply and clearly. Every sentence contains an important thought or detail; no words are wasted. It is honest, thoughtful, and helpful. I have already given a copy as a gift. Thank you, Anne, for writing this book! It will become a classic on my bookshelf.

Great Read and useful information. Although I have been riding and training horses for 35 years, I can always pick up good information. Reaffirms the basics of the forward riding system with good basic excercises.
