I bought this along with Tomie's Little Christmas Pageant for my 2.5 yr old. I am happy with both. It is made in China but the box indicates the paint is lead free. The figures are a nice chunky size for my toddler's hands. I believe the figures are bigger than the Fisher Price set.

I think it is a good set for the price, but there are 2 things I think buyers will want to consider. First, it does not have an actual stable as other sets do(though we will probably make one by painting a shoebox). Second, although I like that it is made of wood (makes it very charming), it IS a soft wood and I suspect that with some rough handling it might get dinged and nicked up.

Considering the title of this product reads, "Child's First Nativity Set," I figured this would be a good set for my kids to play with. I was wrong. When the package arrived, I was surprised to see that the box read, "Not a toy. Not for children..." Also, when I opened up the box just to see what the pieces looked like, they were not painted nearly as bright or as "friendly" as they look in the picture. All of this considered, I decided to send it back. I purchased the Fisher-Price Little People Nativity set at Target for $25.00, and my kids love it. The Fisher-Price set is much more sturdy and the figures are a bit bigger as well.

My 4 year old loves this. Our tradition is to keep Baby Jesus put away and bring him out Christmas morning. It is kind of a soft wood, prone to dings with rough play. I'm curious how long the straw stuffed in around baby Jesus will last. The molded plastic that holds the pieces in place inside the box is not really something you can use for years to store the set--it's very thin and tore easily. We ended up using a shoebox and the foam padding our new TV was wrapped in. My son loves role-playing with the pieces and rearranging them.

Since it is advertised as "a child's first nativity", I ordered it for my 2 1/2 yr old, who is learning about the real reason for Christmas and is fascinated by my ceramic Nativity set. However, when I received it, the box states not a toy, not for children under 5. Also, what really perterbed my was that it was touted as being hand-carved - well its hand-crafted in China! Given the history with toys made in China, I'm not convinced that lead-free paint was used, as also advertised. Its an adorable set, but I wouldn't recommend it or buy it again.

This is a nice, sturdy nativity set that is great to leave out for the kids to be able to play with. I keep mine on my dining room table and my 3 year old loves to role play with the Bible characters. A great way for youngsters to learn about the Christmas story!

I ordered the child's nativity scene for my two year old granddaughter. My granddaughter played with it constantly. Her mother and I were very pleased with the quality and the service. I had looked locally for a wooden scene without success and paid the difference for 2nd day air to get it in time for Christmas morning.

This is a greast first nativity set for my 29 month old. The pieces are heavty and seem like they'll hold up to her handling. My style leans more toward the austere olive wood designs, but this set is a colorful and cheery way to teach my daughter about the story of Christmas.

I purchased the manger scene to put on a low table, so my grandchildren could enjoy it. Everytime any of them come, they play with the figures. It was well worth the money I spent. The figures are very durable and not breakable.

I brought this nativity a few years ago, and every Christmas, my grandchildren enjoy playing with it. The small pieces are easy to handle, and it looks very nice as a display. Each piece really looks as if it were hand carved. We have even used the pieces hidden around the house as everyone travels toward the birthplace on Christmas day. They love looking for them to see how close everyone is getting to Bethlehem. Great price for this nativity. I have purchased one for each of my children so they can use them for the grandchildren in their own homes.

I am very pleased at the beauty and quality of this children's nativity. It is beautifully carved and painted and the perfect size for little hands. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone who wants a child friendly nativity.
