1.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Quality DVD, July 19, 2005

I have probably bought all the Kurt Cobain documentary/biographical DVD's available and this has got to be the poorest one I have bought so far. The quality is absolutely pathetic, it is very amateurish and what is most frustrating is the fact that the audio is not even in sync with the video. The content is also not very well researched and is not always factually correct. Not sure how crap like this make it onto amazon. Don't buy it, you will waste your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Are they serious?, January 13, 2006

Okay, I've seen these "Music Box Collection" DVDs all over media stores in my city, ranging from Jimi Hendrix to John Lennon to Kurt Cobain, and for a while have wanted to check them out (being a big music documentary buff). Christmas came around, I wanted to get my girlfriend a bunch of goodies for Christmas and her being a long time Nirvana fan I picked this up. Thank God it was on sale, and thank God it wasn't the only thing I got her, because after about five minutes of viewing it, I couldn't help but think they were joking. I mean seriously, this video is trash.

It features two people, one of whom taught Kurt Cobain a few chords on his guitar for like a week a long long time ago, sit there and talk about him and talk about Aberdeen. It barely has any actual footage of Kurt, Courtney, or Nirvana in it. There is no live footage of Nirvana playing. The best thing we get here is Courtney's speech after Kurt's suicide, and a bunch of photos that I haven't seen before.

Here's the bad part: This video is so... amateur. It looks like it was made by high school students in their tech lab or graphics class. A good third of the video is cut out by this lame-as-hell graphic of a cartoonish TV, bordering the actual image. The background music sounds like some cheesey Megadeth riffs set to keyboard drums. There isn't actually a song by Nirvana in the whole movie. We do however at the end of the movie get a stupid music video written by one of the two weirdos who made the film (and ultimately star in it). The song is a tribute to Kurt. It sucks. I guess it's a nice effort for two 40-somethings from Aberdeen still playing in a bar band. Whatever. I sleep well at night knowing that my $12 went to give one of them (hopefully) money to buy more Rogaine. I'm not trying to be harsh.. I just want to reiterate the fact that you shouldn't buy this, because I did and I'm embarassed at how lame this video is.

PS. I doubt this movie will ever leave its case again, it will sit on our movie shelf just as filler and help me "look cool".
