4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the newborn ones
These work much better then the newborn size. I think these have three more layers of flannel, so they absorb a lot more. I still use a soaker pad with these, but they are not as necessary. I would suggest buying these instead of the newborns, these fit my 8 pound newborn fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars great value!, December 22, 2004

I bought an eight-pack of these for my firstborn 13 years ago and I'm now using them on my second baby... talk about value! These are great, especially if you work outside the home like I did the first time around (I just had to wash them every night). Anyone can put them on your baby since they go on just like disposables. The fact that I was able to save them and can now reuse them after all these years blows my mind. I've heard great things about other brands but can't afford to try them out. So all I can say is that these are practical, useful, durable, and well-worth the initial expense. I soak them in either white vinegar or baking soda and hot water (vinegar is best for urine and baking soda is best for poop) before laundering for optimal cleanliness. I've never had either baby experience diaper rash while using these. With my first, I used one doubler and my son would last 3-4 hours before needing a change; my second son is a super-soaker so I use two doublers and a vinyl cover and check him after a couple of hours. Keep in mind that even with disposables you'll have more trouble with getting the right fit than with absorbency -- that's what Consumer Reports said in their most recent article and ratings report on disposable diapers. I've experienced blowouts and massive leakage with every brand of disposable diaper we've tried, and my second baby is quite a chunky boy, so I know CR is right. Some websites allow you to purchase a sampler package so you can try different brands of cloth diapers out and see what you like best; if I didn't have these already I probably would've tried that. Also, I would've probably bought the Ultras had they been available 13 years ago. Overall, the money saved by using these with both babies makes the initial cost seem like nothing. Plus, when you use cloth there's a higher likelihood of your child wanting to potty-train earlier (EVERY CHILD IS DIFFERENT AND THEIR MILESTONES WILL VARY).

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly as easy to use as disposables, January 16, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Kushies CLASSIC Infant Cloth Diapers 5 PK (10-22lbs) (Baby Product)
I used these during the daytime for my daughter from the time she was two months old until now, when she's nine months old and seems to be outgrowing them. I'm going to get the toddler size ones now. They contain very well and are quite leakproof. If I leave them on her too long (more than two hours) the dampness seeps through a little bit. But I don't mind changing her often. I don't put any diaper rash cream on her at all and she does fine. Whenever I use disposables for a couple of days during travel, she needs the diaper cream or ends up with a rash. I don't see why I should put stuff on her skin when these 100% cotton diapers keep her skin nice and soft all by themselves, naturally. It feels great to know that we've reduced the number of disposable diapers we use a lot.

Tip for cloth diaper newbies: I line these diapers with Imse Vimse flushable paper liners, and just flush them down the toilet when there's a bm. Otherwise I wash the liners with the diapers and reuse. No need to clean a soiled diaper anymore! I just toss the diaper in the laundry basket.

4.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, January 27, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Kushies CLASSIC Infant Cloth Diapers 5 PK (10-22lbs) (Baby Product)
Excellent diaper overall. I gave it only 4 stars because I feel there is always room for improvement. These diapers do exactly what they are intended to do, and they are very easy to use. How hard is to do a few extra loads of laundry a week anyway? Don't listen to the bad reviews saying they leak. They only leak if you don't put them on right; if there is a big space between your child's legs and the diaper, of course it's going to leak. One thing that I find a little annoying is that the fold back laundry tabs don't hold well in the washer and dryer which causes some of the diapers to stick together and not dry very efficiently. Buy or make fleece liners to use with cloth diapers. Fleece liners wick moisture away from your baby's bum and keep them dry. My daughter wakes up after sleeping 12 hours, and her bum is DRY even though the diaper is super soaked. Also, poop doesn't stick to fleece, and they wash great. I have both the Ultra and Classic, and they both work great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good fitted diapers, July 5, 2002

I used these on my daughter who had very sensitive skin. I also used my own home-made fitted diapers and I have to say, that between those two choices, mine were more absorbent. I do like the fact that you can leave these un-covered sometimes. The exception would be heavy-wetting babies and sleep-times. I gave these four stars because, eventhough I do like these and would recomend them to anybody, I don't think they are very durable. Mine fell apart after about 1 year of using them. I know that mine probably didn't last as long because I didn't have that many of them(about a dozen) and washed them more often, (about 2 or 3 times a week). I used these as a over-night diaper w/ a doubler and covered with an Aristocrate (wool diaper cover). In over 2 years, I never had a leak.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love these, January 28, 2003

I used these with my skinny girl and my chunky baby boy they fit both fine(unlike my bumkins)I have many cloth diapers and these worked the best for me for any size child. I bought them in infant and todler size. My daughter was not a heavy wetter and they worked great for her in day time. My son was a heavy wetter and I had to add the kushies or any doubler to make them absorbant enought. At night I just added doublers and cheep gerber plastic pants and it was great even for a heavy wetter with out to much bulk. I like these so much because they can be made to work with any size child and any amout of wetness with inexpensive modifications for day or night.(like doublers and plastic pants)I can't say enough about these. Mine have held up for 2 children and although they are thinner they could go for another child if I wanted. My 2 1/2 is a very heavy wetter at night and I still use these with doublers(3) kushies( kushies are thin doubler but are great for no bulk) and plastic pants and I am set for all night.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ultras are superior, November 26, 2004

Kushies Ultras are superior because 1. they don't get damp on the outside and 2. Ultras have a larger tag of Velcro, which makes adjustments a lot easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars My kid loves these. So do I., July 10, 2004

We've been using these for a month now and they're great. Very well designed and a good fit - the velcro fasteners are easy to do up and adjust, and can be folded over when washing so that the don't stick to everything in the wash.

Buy 3 packs of these, and two packs of their washable extra liners (makes them fit even earlier, and help to absorb everything...). You'll save more than enough over using disposables to pay for an energy-efficient, front-loading washing machine, so go and treat yourself to one. Baby will keep it very busy... In areas with cold weather, you'll definitely be needing a dryer too if you don't have one already, but Kushies estimate that you save about $2k using their diapers on a baby - and they should be good for more than one baby if you're planning on more!

Note to friends in Canada who can't currenely buy thse from Amazon: These are made in Ontario and available here from Sears and other stores. They are also available in Europe - ask the company for store locations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great diaper, December 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Kushies CLASSIC Infant Cloth Diapers 5 PK (10-22lbs) (Baby Product)
I love these diapers! During the day you hardly need a cover and at night I use them with a Diaper Liner and the Happy Pants on the outside. I found the Happy Pants at diapersafari.com - they also carry the Kushies (at a better price)! Also look at the other products from Diaper Safari - they have an awesome selection plus fantastic customer service!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite, February 8, 2006
This review is from: Kushies CLASSIC Infant Cloth Diapers 5 PK (10-22lbs) (Baby Product)
I've used a variety of cloth diapers in the past, and these were by far my least favorite. The main problem I had with them is that the elastic around the legs doesn't offer any support for holding accidents in. They never soaked through on the outside, but they always leaked around the legs. Which also causes some major skin irritation. I have found many other better brands of cloth diapers (for a cheaper price) that hold accidents in.
