I got this with the matching Kustom Defender 5H head. A simple volume only 5 watt tube amp. And this cabinet kind of outshines the amp.

As I need a lot more power than this can provide when I play live, I haven't really gigged with it, so I can't attest to it's durability on the road. But it seems substantial enough, and has been great in the studio.

I'm a glutton for low end response, and there's plenty of low end for me with this, so there should be plenty for most anyone else. Highs are open and smooth. I'm honestly not sure what make of speaker they use, but I certainly haven't felt any need to upgrade.

While I got this to pair with the aforementioned Defender head, I've found myself using it with my other lower wattage heads as well, and it's even found use as an extension for a combo or two. It's just a great sounding, flexible cab. I'm hoping they make a 50+ watt version because I kind of want one.

And as I don't see it mentioned or photographed, it's a 2/3 closed, 1/3 open cabinet, with panels on the top and bottom thirds with the center open.

This cab came well-packaged and was in great shape when it arrived. It took a few hours for the weird vinyl smell to die away (put it in a well ventilated place at first). Even before the speaker was broken in, it had a lively sound that responded well to all the various sounds my amp gave it. It breaks up a little earlier than my Celestion GT-12, Carvin British 12, and Celestion 70-80, but it does clean very well too. It's also quieter than the other speakers mentioned, but it's far more responsive to control changes than the others. It's also very stoutly built. I could stand on it with no worries. I normally wouldn't make a decision on something like this just based on price (though this was a great price for a 12" cab), but I thought I would just swap out the stock speaker for one of my GT-12s. However, after hearing it, I'm gonna leave it in for a while and see how it settles in. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to pick up a great cab and a decent sounding speaker for a great price.

I bought this cabinet to match with the 5H Head (reviewed elsewhere). The cabinet came well packaged and seems well put together. It is an open-back design, and fairly light. Just the perfect size for the bedroom or studio. The clear, sparkly tone of the head is projected very well through this cabinet and its 30W speaker, a good match. Even so, I decided to change the speaker so I could use the cab with a Marshall JMD1 head which has a lot more power (50W). I replaced the stock speaker with an Eminence Man o War speaker, and could not be happier with the result. So much so, that I decided to go for another Kustom 1x12 cabinet, instead of plunking down more dough for a dedicated 2x12 cab. This time I will be replacing the stock speaker with an Eminence Texas Heat speaker. I am looking forward to hearing the results of mixing "British" and "American" voiced speakers, one more oriented towards lows and highs, and the other one more towards the mids - in theory this could be tonal nirvana....I will post an update when I have received that second pair. Thanks to these inexpensive cabinets, I will be able to go "solo" with one of them as well whenever I want - versatility for relatively few $$.

Update: I now have the second cab - this time with a Texas Heat speaker, and it does sound entirely different from the Man-o-War cab - a lot warmer, much less bite, but not muddy. The combination of both cabs really gives dimension to the sound, my high expectations have been met. And it will get better as both speakers get broken in... Swapping out the speakers was super easy btw: remove the two small panels in the back for easy access. The 8-hole eminence speakers don't line up with the holes for the stock speaker, except for two of them, so just use two additional wood screws (or more if you insist) , and you are done.

I have had this speaker for about a month. This extension speaker cabinet was designed for the matching 16 ohm Kustom tube amplifier head. Others amp owners beware because if your amp is an 8 ohm output there will be a mismatched impedance. Fortunately for me, my Ampeg 5 watt tube amp Head can match up with this 16 ohm speaker. The primary reason I bought it was that the matching cabinet for my Ampeg has been discontinued and the one I did find available was twice the price of this Kustom. This is a great sounding speaker. One thing that all the descriptions leave out is what kind of back it has. So let me tell you it comes with a 1/3 open back in the middle and a nice recessed input jack in the top 1/3 section. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 star is the speaker grill cloth on my unit is a tad wavy at the bottom when looking down from the top. Looking at it straight on it doesn't show as much but even cheap speakers and amps don't have this flaw. It probably is only on a few of cabinets made and has no bearing on the sound but Quality Control should of caught this. It does appear to be a strong well made cabinet with nice chrome corners and worthy handle. The unit is front to back deep enough to avoid tip overs when a heavy tube amp head is placed on top. The 12 inch speaker kicks out both warm and chunky sounds depending on my amp settings. For practice, recording or small gigs you can't go wrong with this speaker cabinet.
