A Breath of Fresh Air in the World of Christian Rock,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kutless (Audio CD)
I bought this cd without ever really listening to it and I was immediately impressed. It is obvious to most everyone that Christian music has never had the same sound quality as secular music. Almost any Christian song can immediately be distinguished by its simplistic approach or just lack of musical talent and originality. They incorporate things such as guitar lead riffs and backup violins throughout their songs with great sounding effects that create a sense of professionalism. This is a band that has a lot of talent and could definitely make it as a secular band if they tried. It is also a relief that they make a very obvious stand for Christianity and do not try to avoid their faith in their lyrics as some Christian bands have done. This is a terrific cd and I suggest anyone who likes the sound of bands such as Creed, Nickelback, System of a Down, etc. try it out.

In this day and age where almost every new Christian rock band gets slapped with a Creed-soundalike label, it's nice to see a band with that label that is definitely a Christian band. This band is awesome. Hard rock with wonderful lyrics. No screaming uninteligable lyrics, no rap (except for "Pride Away", which is done by a guest rapper). Just flat out rock. The message is great. These guys focus on God throughout the entire CD. They don't leave the listener trying to figure out if the band really is a Christian band. The songs are great, the sound is great, the CD is amazing. You have to buy this. So what if they sound like Creed? At least they're Christians.

An Excellent CD With Thought-Provoking Lyrics,
By Nathan Dickey (Greenleaf ID USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kutless (Audio CD)
From this, their debut album, the hard-rock Christian band Kutless has shown themselves (in my opinion) to be a great hard-rock Christian band that sings songs with very thought-provoking lyrics. Secular music fans will thoroughly enjoy this album, due to the hard-rock edge throughout the album. Christian music fans will love this album because of its non-generic lyrics, which clearly shows that the band doesn't mind showing forth their faith full force through hard-rock music. As an avid fan of all Christian music, I can say this is among the best Christian albums in the world. Whether you are a Christian or not, I wholeheartedly reccomend this album to you, and I also reccomend telling your friends about it. 5 stars

Kutless is one of the many bands that have been tagged with the "Creed soundalike" in the last couple of years, and while they play similar styles, Kutless has it's own unique sound. Unlike many recent bands with this label, however, these guys are excellent. If they had not chosen to stay on a Christian label, you would have already heard a number of their songs all over the radio by now. "Run" and " Vow" in particular will bowl you over, if you are a fan of great rock music. They are the best Christian rock band to come out in a long time, and with a few more albums such as this, could be the best ever. The lead singer's voice is perfect for their style, moving seamlessly from the softer parts of the song to the heavier portions. The back-up vocals are outstanding, as is the instrumental work. There is not a bad track on the album. If you are a fan of music such as Creed, 12 Stones, Metallica, etc, you need this album for your collection.

Kutless bursts onto the scene with this self-titled effort..... and man do they ever burst onto the scene!
If you're even remotely a fan of Christian rock, you will absolutely adore this CD! This is one of those special CD's that you can just put in the player and sit back and enjoy every one of the 12 songs. You can tell a lot of work was put into this album, and it really shines. With the chart-topping hits: Run, Your Touch and Tonight, they bring songs that have been loved by many. But besides these wonderful songs, every one of the others is wonderful hard rock music with an exceptional message. They talk about subjects such as dealing with ridicule in following Christ, fighting to quit sinning, the needlessness of pride, the awesome love of Jesus Christ and our need for Him, and so so so much more. There is also several songs of praise and worship on the album, and the heavy song "Tonight" is exciting praise and worship at it's best. Musically, the guitars, drums and awesome voice of Jon Micah Sumrall makes this stand alone in rock music. But the message they spread with it makes them an EXCEPTIONAL band at the top of Christian rock today! Check this CD out!

I love this CD. I got it for my 14 year old niece, because she likes secular hard rock music that doesn't have the greatest lyrics, but I like it too! I also like the harder rock music at times, so this is perfect for both of us. My favorite single is "Tonight" because it has a harder edge. I recommend this to any parent, aunt or uncle looking for inspirational music to give to their teens! It'll definitely get their interest.

Kutless-Album of the year,
This review is from: Kutless (Audio CD)
To put it simply,Kutless's debut album just blew my socks off. It was the first Christian album in my collection, and still my favorite today. Almost every song is electrifying, whether thru the instruments or Jon's vocals or the lyrics. They struck me as a cross between Staind and Creed, only much much better.Jons vox are great, he has a really good voice.James and Ryan are both solid guitar players, they complement each other well. Kyle Mitchell is a decent drummer as well. The first song"Your Touch" is just a rockin intro tune song about needing God in your life. The next song is a heavy song about Christ living in you and changing your life. The 3rd song is a beautiful song about once loving Christ and then turning away from him, back into the world. Its an amazing song. "New Years Vow", the next song,is a song that holds alot of personal meaning to myself. The chorus is catchy. The next song"Pride Away" is just a mediocre song until the brief rap part comes in... Track 6 is a great song with awesome lyrics about a girl who doesnt like what she sees in her reflection in the mirror. Track 7 is ok, as is track 8. Then theres track 9. What a hard hitting, rock ur socks off song. The heaviest Kutless song released. Its about praising God, and this song does just that in a big way.The rest of the album is ok, but just the first 9 songs or so are easily worth whatever you paid for the album. Buy this cd if u like rock music at all, and espicially if u like Christian music that actually has Christ centered lyrics.

Not Creed; Not sell-outs,
By
This review is from: Kutless (Audio CD)
Ok, I admit it. The vocalist does sound like Creed. Now put that away. This band has incredible writing skills and lyrical ability at a tremendously young age, set in a Christian market dying for a deviation from the hokey trend that Christian music has rode for so many years. It's unfortunate when people can only look at them and shake their head for "ripping off" other bands. Generally speaking, those who view this band negatively believe that the band sounds like Creed because they don't like Creed in the first place. Contrast their lyrics with Creed's for a moment and actually listen -- just take a shot at them. These guys are SOLD OUT FOR CHRIST. No compromise, no give at all. Bands like P.O.D., Creed, and Switchfoot are horribly guilty of bending their lyrics a bit so they don't look so Christian when they finally hit the radio, but still look spiritual or whatever they're trying to do. I hope Kutless doesn't do this as well. They're a breath of fresh air in a grotesquely polluted mainstream metal market that only provides negativity and explicit undertones. You can't complain about that. This album is unbelievable, despite similarities or whatever. Every band has inspiration and influence from other bands -- Blink 182 took from Green Day who took from The Clash and The Ramones who took from The Who, etc. etc. I'm certain that Kutless were inspired and inadvertently borrowed from other bands, but they put it together and made it their own, and then they GAVE IT TO GOD. That's just awesome. Just listen to this album, and put those similarities aside. It'll blow your speakers and your mind at the same time.

This is a great cd! Awesome music, very good lyrics, and altogether really well made with an excellent sound. Sounds a lot like Creed -- not so much as to make it not very Christian, but enough to be a good substitute for Creed. All in all, definitely one of the best Christian bands I've heard out there. If you like these guys, try out someone like Pillar(or vice versa).

Definitely better than Thousand Foot Krutch,
By
This review is from: Kutless (Audio CD)
Already loving 'Strong Tower' and 'Sea of Faces' (alright, so I was late to the Christian rock scene), I decided to get both this album and Thousand Foot Krutch's 'Phenomenon' at the same time. Kutless is clearly the better band in this instance because you can truly hear their devotion to Jesus Christ through their lyrics - unlike TFK. Their lyrics are hard-core, but they touch on the agressive aspects of faith that are typically forgotten in the wishy-washy world that we live in. Hats off to Kutless, and, sorry TFK, my Rawkfist has a thumb pointing down.
