Super portable and easy to move with its heavy-duty casters, it comes complete with a one year manufacturer's warranty for added peace of mind. What is Evaporative Cooling - Remember the chill of getting out of a swimming pool on a hot day? That's evaporative cooling. Evaporative cooling units create this natural effect and provide a constant flow of cool, refreshing air into hot, uncomfortable environments. The heart of an evaporative cooling system is the evaporative pad. A pump pushes water over the pads and a fan pulls the air through the pads. The water evaporates within the pads and the air passing through the pads is cooled. Port-A-Cool products are manufactured in the USA by Port-A-Cool, LLC, in Center, Texas, and the company is recognized as an industry leader with Port-A-Cool products being respected in both the United States and international marketplaces. Why Buy - Cools using regular tap water and 115-Volt with no harmful refrigerants. No assembly required. Lowers temperature 15 to 25 Degree. Easy to maintain. An all-natural, effective cooling technique. You can use it in conjunction with an A/C to boost the cooling! Product Dimensions: 32-1/2-Inch High by 19-Inch Wide by 14-1/2-Inch Deep. I also like the button controls for fan speed, cooling, timer and fan swing which my other unit did not have.

This product sucks... Don't waist your money......You are better off buying a portable a/c like I did which was much cooler.

Because I can keep my bedroom nice and cool, I can keep the home air conditioner set at 78 degrees comfortably.

I think the KA50 does a great job at what its designed to do. Since I live in Arizona, it is very dry here. I end up using it all year round. In the summer its used to cool the house down and the winter to add humidity to the air since its on the extreme side of dry. When the manufacture states 350 sq ft, they mean it.

Since it does hold a lot of water it can be a pain to fill so I use a hose from my laundry sink. If you don't have one you can use a fish water siphon in reverse direction. There is a meter that tells you how much water is in the unit (Min - Max). It's just a float connected to a piece of plastic pushing the meter up. FYI if the unit is empty or very low, the float can tend to get stuck and end up overfilling the unit because it will still say Min when its full. A simple tap on the machine looses the float and you are good to go. Something to keep in mind but wouldn't deter me from buying.

The unit has 5 casters on it and move with little effort on tile or carpet. (no complaints here)

Sleep mode: I don't see myself using this all that much. All it does is cycle through low, medium, and high fan rates and can get a little annoying with the varying noise levels since there is a drastic sound difference between low and high.

Air direction is easy to control. There is a button that allows the system to pivot left to right or stationary. The vertical control is adjusted by manually moving the vertical fins up and down in pre set positions that they snap into. (no complaints here)

Size: Large. Upon ownership I was wowed by its size. I know dimensions are posted but when you look at it in a store vs the room its going in, it changes perspective greatly.

I compared air conditioners vs air coolers for days before finally deciding upon the KuulAire PACKA50. Based on the features, cost and reviews, the KuulAire PACKA50 seemed to be the best choice. Honestly, a true air conditioner would provide a sure solution to a heat problem but in addition to costing around 50% more than air coolers, with true air conditioners, you must run an exhaust duct from the portable unit to the outside. The only option for doing that in the living room area of my home would require spending an additional $150 plus for a 'pet door' attachment to the sliding glass door.
The KuulAire PACKA50 arrived earlier than the estimated delivery date. Simply take it out of the box, add water and plug it in. The unit has a pretty strong fan and seemed to work well. Within a couple of days however, I knew that it would not be adequate for the problem I was trying to solve. I purchased the KuulAire PACKA50 to be used inside my indoor grow tent. The grow tent was running at a very consistent 90 degrees and that meant my home was also 90 degrees whenever the tent lights were on. The KuulAire PACKA50 did reduce the temp by about 10 degrees but to do this it pretty much doubled the humidity in my home. This certainly was not the answer I was looking for. In my opinion, the KuulAire PACKA50 is a very good devise that does as it claims, but I don't think it will work for someone who wants to greatly reduce the temperature of their high temp grow lights. Unfortunately, I had to return the unit. Now I'll have to spend twice as much to install a real air conditioner and live with 10 feet of air duct running across the floor.

I'm not surprised by the bipolar ratings for the Kuulaire. Correlate rating versus geography.

I bought two of these (the KA50). They've both been great. Let me give you some advice if you're thinking about it.
First - live west of the 100th meridian and east of the Sierras.
Second - use it only when the outside relative humidity is below 30%.
Three - provide some source of outside intake air (it doesn't have to be close - just on the intake side) and allow air to escape to the outside (on the cool side of the unit).
The last may be counter intuitive (letting in two sources of hot outside air) but if you don't do it, the humidity increase in the area you're trying to cool will decrease efficiency of the unit dramatically.

The smell goes away after about 50 hours of use.

I also have a KA40 and it's too small to handle anything but a small room (less than 300 ft. sq.).

Enjoy this in Arizona and forget it in Alabama.

We ordered this evaporative cooler (swamp cooler) after moving from Pennsylvania (humid!! rainy!!) to Southern California (low humidity). I am a professional harpist and needed something that could put out a large amount of cool, humidified air over a large area and keep the humidity in my studio between 45% and 55% most of the time. I had two regular humidifiers going full blast during a very hot dry spell and they barely made a dent in the dryness. In desperation, I researched all my options and most of the evaporative coolers out there on the market and settled on the KuulAire KA50 - WOW! It really lived up to its claims! First of all, I ordered it on a Friday and it arrived the next day. I filled it up with 5 gallons of tap water, turned it on and instantly got a steady, powerful stream of wonderful cool, humid air which cooled a large space very efficiently. I never got a dank smell or sticky feeling, like when I lived in PA. There are a multitude of great features on this powerful little giant, which I have used with satisfactory results - I like the variety of fan speeds, the "swing" feature which oscillates the vents from side to side, and everything else. There is a large door on the side which allows easy access to add water to the tank. The drain plug is conveniently located at the bottom of the unit on the side, so you can drain the water weekly. The unit itself is lightweight when it is empty and is on wheels and can be easily moved.

WARNING: This is NOT an air conditioner!!! I think most people who buy these things expecting it to produce a large drop in the air temperature are going to be very disappointed. We experienced a pleasant cooling effect of a few degrees, but for us, it was perfect.
